31 Renaults Exempt from Congestion Tax 15 Feb 2008 (News)
No less than 31 of Renault’s current model line-up qualify for the zero cost category from small cars like Clio to larger, family cars like the Mégane. Even drivers who have a licence to drive automatic only vehicles can take advantage of the discount by opting for a Renault with a robotised gearbox available with the dCi 86 engines on Modus. Driving a Band A or B environmentally-friendly vehicle doesn’t mean you have to compromise on power either, even in a larger vehicle like the Mégane, with the powerful-yet-frugal dCi 106 six-speed forming part of Renault’s congestion charge friendly line-up. -

Auctions Should Get Interesting Next Week 21 May 2004 (News)
Nor was a 71k mile 98R Nissan Primera 2.0SRI at £1,750. Nor a well-worn unwarranted mileage 92J Toyota Estima Emina four wheel drive diesel automatic that looked like it had circumnavigated the globe a dozen times at £2,200. But dearest car of the day had to be a 3k mile 2003/53 reg Vauxhall VX220 Roadster (not a turbo) that sold for £17,400. -
Today’s Auction Ups and Downs 12 May 2004 (News)
Now’s the time to snap one up with around 20,000 miles in the low fours. However, the opposite is true for Yaris automatics which are close to top of the most wanted list. A Toyota dealer snapped up two 2002/52 1.3 GLX 3-door autos with a/c and 18k–21k miles for £6,050 and £6,250. He has so many customers for them he’d have been prepared to pay £7,000 apiece, so they’ll probably fetch £8,250 - £8,500 on the forecourt. -
New Focus 1.6 Zetec £9,350 at Auction Today 30 Apr 2004 (News)
A 272 mile 2004/53 reg Vauxhall Meriva 1.6 Enjoy with a/c bid to just £7,950 provisionally, and this car lists at £12,197. In comparison, an 1,830 mile 2003/53 reg Micra 1.2S 3-door automatic looked a bit dear to me at £6,550, but it was subject to a bidding battle. Whereas a 656 mile 2003/53 Renault Clio 1.2 Expression with “auto clutch” sold for £5,600. Other cheap nearly new cars today included a 9k mile 03 reg Audi A4 TDI V6 163bhp Sport Avant, sold for £19,650; a nice 11k mile met grey manual 2003/53 Jag S-Type 2.5 V6 Sport, sold for £16,900; and a 3,600 mile 2004/53 facelift Honda Civic 1.4E 5-door bid to a provisional £7,400. -
Awesome New Audi A8s Arrive in Britain 22 Apr 2004 (News)
That’s a staggering economy figure for a seriously big car with 233PS, 450Nm torque (from just 1,400 to 3,250rpm), a 0-60 of 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 150mph. Transmission is a six speed Tiptronic torque converter automatic. The list price of this one is £47,380 and it’s definitely the bargain of the A8 range. For BIK drivers, CO2 is 231g/km, Euro 4. The other new model is a front wheel drive 220PS 3.0 chain-cam V6 which also delivers 300Nm torque at 3,000rpm and comes with a 6 selectable-ratio Multitronic CVT. -
03s at Top Car Auction Today 3 Mar 2003 (News)
So unusually for a Top Car sale, car after car was a seller. A January 2003, 52 reg 320D automatic saloon specced up to a UK list of nearly £27k sold for £22,400. A 21k mile 15 month old 2001/51 Mercedes E320 Avantgarde Estate that apparently cost £44,000 new sold for £24,300. -
Police Auction Real Crowd Pleaser 13 Dec 2002 (News)
Two consecutively registered ex Cheshire 99V T5 manuals, each with 153k miles made £4,800 and £5,050; two ex Hants T5 automatics made £3,000 for the 160k mile 99S and £5,050 for the 137k mile 99T; and three ex Thames Valley and Bedfordshire MV6’s made £3,900 for the 2000W 96k miler; £3,825 for the new 2000W 88k miler; and a provisional £4,600 for the 2001Y 97k miler. -
Audi TT for £11,900 at Auction Today 25 Sep 2002 (News)
The first Peugeot 206 Coup Cabrio I’ve seen at auction: this one a 2,000 mile 2002/51 reg 1.6S automatic with a non-functioning roof, didn’t sell to a bid of £12,550. A 48,000 miles unwarranted 92J but genuine looking BMW 318iS coupe ran to all of £3,750 (not bad for a 10 year old car). -
Plenty of p/x Bargains at Auction 13 Mar 2002 (News)
A single pre-price alignment 11,000 mile 98S Berlingo Multispace 1.8 3-door with the huge electric roof sold for £3,700. But Micra automatics were in the money with a 12,000 mile 99S 1.3GX 5-door selling for all of £4,900. While a P reg Vitara soft-top in Pudendum Pink was bought by a bottle blonde's bloke for a silly £3,500, but we don't write the book on that basis. -
Auction Prices Begin to Rise 30 Nov 2001 (News)
This 17,000 mile eight month old Y reg car started at £19,000 and bid to £20,200 which was deemed not enough even though the new price is only £22,960. A pair of 3.0 V6 S-Type Jags bid to £18,600 for the 2000W automatic with 33,000 miles and £15,300 for the 2000W manual with 22,000 miles and a very badly repainted front nearside wing and valence. It would have been worth the vendor's while to spend money on a proper repair instead of a bodge. -
Not so Cheap at Auction Today 16 Nov 2001 (News)
And someone paid all of £13,050 for it. A heavily loaded 10,000 mile 2000W Polo GTi made a stiff £8,975. A 138,000 mile Previa automatic 8-seater sold for £6,800. And, though a 150,000 mile 98R BMW 318iS Coupe started sensibly at £5,000, it didn't stop until it made £7,000. Buyers were a bit more realistic about a 68,000 mile 97R MGF VVC and refused to pay more than £7,000 for it. -
Motability Cars making Megabucks at Car Auction Today 31 Aug 2012 (News)
Four Nissan Qashqais were all serious money. A 16k mile 11 reg Jazz 1.4iVTEC EX made £11,000. A 6k mile 09 Nissan Note Acenta automatic sold for £5,800. Not everything went mad, though. Bargain of the day has to be an 18k mile 09 Chevrolet Lacetti 1.8SX auto estate, sold for a mere £2,350, a perfectly okay, fine riding 38k mile 09 Renault Megane 1.6i Expression sold for £4,250, a 102k mile 2008/58 Mondeo 2.0i Zetec estate drove off for £3,650 and, unless I misheard and misread, a 27k mile 09 Focus CC 2.0 automatic sold for just £5,500. -
Skoda Greenline II Range of Models Put to the Test 15 Feb 2011 (News)
Similar prices for the specs to the Peugeot 508 1.6 e-HDIs tested last week, though going up to a higher top spec level. Nice, friendly and above all obedient stop-start that, unlike automatics and semi automatics, leaves the engine off when you put the parking brake on and only restarts when you press the clutch. Impressive to drive. Does not feel underpowered. Nicer ride quality on the 205/55 R16s than on bigger wheels with lower profile tyres. -
