Mondeo Rear Bumper 18 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I have, in this instance, the option of whether to claim or not. I have an estimate from my local Ford Main Dealer for about £500 inclusive, but, the car's probably only worth about £2000 now and that's quite a large proportion of the cars actual value! I would like to get the car repaired, but more cheaply than the £500 FMD quote. Trouble is, I could go to an independent who might do it a bit cheaper, but the genuine Ford part costs £185. -
Here we go...... 7 Jul 2005 (Forum)
I think an awful lot of the speed limits in this country are a nonsense, and I long for the day when the camera fools stop whining about cameras and work out that the real issue is the speed limits. People with no insurance on their cars should have their car crushed and their licence thrown away. Ditto drink/drivers. The Congestion Charge is a good idea, or at least it would have been if it had been backed by an investment in public transport and out of town, secure, car parking. -
Change in Breakdown Service 3 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Luckly I was fairly local to my main dealer, but I asked what would happen if I was in the middle nowhere in Scotland, and was told the same rules would apply The driver told me that now that they are a PLC with profit to make fot the shareholders, the accountants have been in and looked at everything that they can cut back !!! No doubt there is cover where I can be towed anywhere, which used to be the case, but you can bet that they want even more money for that!!! My wife had an accident last Novmeber where the car couldn't be driven. They wanted £140 to tow the car home, and wouldn't even come out unless you pay up front with a credit card. -
Motor Bike Bashing Thread! 6 Apr 2005 (Forum)
So bikers, why do you do this? Have you a death wish? You will always come off second best, even if it is a car driver's error. So why not sit in the line of traffic? Does the huge adrenaline rush you get from swerving in between cars continue on whilst you are lying on the stretcher in the ambulance? -
Green mould - removal & prevention? 18 Nov 2004 (Forum)
(Ok so it won't be me washing it by hand, I won't be able to) Secondly, there's no garage, car port or any kind of shelter available to put the car into to protect it, are you guys aware of anything else I could use to cover the vehicle to help protect it? Those huge protective sheets are pretty much out of the question, stretching is not at all easy, and the elasticated versions require upper arm strength which I don't have, but maybe there's an improved version out there since I last tried them. -
Alfa 156 blown spark plug 3 Aug 2004 (Forum)
My alfa 156 suddenly developed a really bad misfire like it was running on 2 cylinders, on opening the bonnet there was a horendous knocking coming from the top of the engine, I removed the engine cover to find it had blown one of the small sark plugs out of the head stripping the thread on the bottom 4 pitches of the plug. I brought this car 2nd hand in march 2003, the car is a 2000 year 156 1.8TS the car has done 40000miles and had yearly service since new, it uses very little oil and has run like a dream no problems. -
Advice prior to the Service Department 24 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Could someone give me a couple of pointers please. Car in question R reg Honda CRV auto. Milleage just under 45,000. Terrain covered - main roads, but also two daily 11 mile round trips in narrow, hilly and winding lanes - often involving pulling on to the grass verges and braking in the face of oncoming traffic around blind bends (not travelling fast obviously) I've noticed an occasional knock on the nearside front coming from underneath - a sort of cross between a knock and a rattle. -
VR6 bearing probs - VW dealer negligent? 30 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Their opinion is that the bearing is so worn, that it couldn\'t have been replaced within the last few months. During this time, the car has covered about 4500 miles (total mileage 69600). I am understandably angry with the state of affairs, not to mention very alarmed at the thought of a wheel bearing failing totally at motorway speed, where most of my driving is done. -
