How long should a set of tyres last?

I own a 2016 Skoda Yeti 1.2 TSI SEL. It has only covered around 33000 miles. It was fitted with Goodyear tyres so I replaced them with the same. It now needs new tyres on the front again. I am disappointed that the tyres haven't lasted longer - 4 years and 16000 miles isn't great. I still have an original unused spare in my boot. Will this be okay to use given that it is 9 years old? I was persuaded to fit Landsail tyres on the rears a while ago. Should I fit these on the front? I'm not sure how good these Chinese tyres will prove to be.

16,000 miles for a set of tyres is on the lower side of what is reasonable but it is not out of the question for a set to wear out this quickly, more so for a front-wheel-drive car. We would not advise using a nine-year-old tyre as it is near the end of its lifespan. Choosing new tyres to fit is a matter of balancing budget versus quality, but we would advise fitting the best tyres you can afford. We would also suggest having an alignment carried out when fitting new tyres and ensuring tyre pressures are checked on a regular basis.
