  • Audi Allroad TDi test drive 28 Apr 2004 (Forum)
On the lighter cars, the plastic roof cover (there to prevent scratching when taking this beast off-road) is fairly inconspicuous. On a darker car it sticks out like a sore thumb. On to the inside; the brochure really fails to sell the two-tone interior but in reality the beige leather with beige and mid-brown dash/doors works extremely well.

  • BMW 5 series F10 535d - How often should I change the oil 1 Feb 2016 (Forum)
When I dropped it off on the day the receptionist again insisted the work wasn't necessary and I was told that BMW would not normally carry out unnecessary work.  As they had agreed to book in the car they then agreed to undertake it. Actual charge £210. I intend to service this car optimally and keep it for 10 years and 180-200,000 miles, can you advice the optimal oil change frequency - 7000 miles, 10,000, or advised by BMW.
  • Ford Focus Zetec 1.6 2007 - Is my warranty worth keeping? 8 Aug 2015 (Forum)
Hi Folks Just wondering what the forum thinks about repair warranties for used cars. I've had a warranty since about 2008, covering first a Meriva and then my current car, an 07 Focus that I bought in 2010. The warranty costs 21 quid a month, the excess on any claim is 50 quid and I've claimed once in seven years for a new coil on the Meriva.
  • 330ci - Doubt about warranty AA 9 Jul 2015 (Forum)
They were ordering the part (ABS pump) and booking me in for 2 days time early morning matching the part ETA to the garage Tomorrow is when i have to get the car back into the garage for the repair. My warranty has not called me back still. I have told so to the guy of the garage and he got prestige car warranty to call me and saying the same thing: not a penny for me.
  • Vauxhall Astra H - Vauxhall 1.6 Ecotec engine failure 27 Feb 2015 (Forum)
An issue of note for any Astra's fitted with the 1.6 Ecotec engine Z16XER, in that I have had the misfortune to suffer an engine failure which totalled the engine on a dealer regular interval serviced car.   The fault starts as sounding like tappet clatter, but it isn't.  Removal of the cam cover and inspection of the two camshaft cogs shows the design to be made up of a composite "dephaser" type device that adjusts the port timing the faster the engine turns as part of a DCVCP system.
  • Which small SUV or family hatch? 17 Sep 2014 (Ask HJ)

  • Expensive day - easy money 15 Jul 2014 (Forum)
I tried to start a couple of times. Naturally I realised something was up. A lad helped me to push the car to a layby and plod stopped to make sure i was alright. Fortunately, I have AA cover, first time needed in 8 years membership. When I relayed to the operator what the symptoms were he asked if I'd recently added fuel.
  • Vauxhall Corsa C - Blown head gasket 26 Jun 2014 (Forum)
The head gasket on my 54 reg, 53k miles 1.2 Vauxhall Corsa has 'blown' after the engine overheating due to a water pipe coming loose. I have the car under a third party warranty company, which came with the car from the dealership I bought it from. The initial quote I received from my local garage was around £100 for new spark plugs, oil filters etc, as warranty will cover the head gasket and all of the labour.
  • Volkswagen Golf IV - mk4 golf tdi arl won't start 12 Feb 2014 (Forum)
ive removed the rocker cover, the camshaft looks in good condition, i was hoping to be able to examine the output from the cam mounted tandem pump but this doesn't seem possible, is there a way to test the tandem pump? i doubt all 4 injectors have gone together and if one had i would expect a fault code and some running issues but the car was running fine, is there anyway to test the lift pump aswell apart from listening for it priming?
  • Kia Sorento 2.5 diesel auto "06" plate - KIA Sorento intercooler 10 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Can anyone advise if the front of the car has to come off or can the intercooler be replaced without the removal of the radiator, oil cooler etc? I think some of the oil has come from the rocker cover breather pipe (drawn in while the air filter was blocked?)
  • VW Polo 2002 - 1.4 16v - Potential Map Sensor Fault (EPC/EMS warning light) 19 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Having diagnosed the fault via the helpful RAC I then took it to the garage hoping they would cure the problem but they still want the £49 charge for the diagnostic equipment. My question is that the car is under Warranty with - Direct Warranty Administration and they tell me the part isnt covered. Surely it should be as its to do with the engine? Do I pay for the map sensor and get my mate to fit it or take it to the garage and hopefully they will agrue with the warranty company on my behalf?

  • Honda civic diesel - Cambelt failure liability 2 Jun 2013 (Forum)
I have a Honda Civic 2005 (diesel) which broke down while on the road. The recovery mechanic suspected a cambelt failure. The car was towed to the dealer where I bought the car and where the servicing has been done. The dealer has undertaken an initial inspection and has indicated that they think the engine had a catastrophic failure which  resulted in the cambelt failing.
