Buying a second hand Saab 9-3 - is it a good bet?

My son is struggling to keep up with the running costs of his 2005 Mini Cooper S. He is now considering a 2005 SAAB 9-3 Vector 1.9 TDI Sport. It has covered 90,000 miles and will cost £2500.

What are the likely pitfalls – are there any large bills looming up with a car of this mileage?

The main one is that there are so many potential disasters lurking under the bonnet of the SAAB in the shape of that awful 1.9 diesel engine that keeping the Mini could be a far cheaper option.
