  • Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - hdi rear brake calipers 25 Jun 2013 (Forum)
The rear brakes on my 406 do not seem to be working properly - the inner faces of each disk show signs of corrosion which would suggest that only the outer pads are in contact with the disks when braking. I do remember (but dismissed at the time!)

  • Honda Civic - rubbing/vibrating brake pedal 27 Apr 2010 (Forum)
I left my car for 4 weeks over the winter (freezing conditions, etc.) When I returned, there was a slight rubbing when using the brake that coud be felt through the pedal - almost like there was something stuck on the pad causing it to catch then work properly (much like on a bicycle when the rim is out of alignent). I tried braking hard a few times then normally and it seemed to subside.

  • 1996 Skoda Felicia 1.3 brake 'squeak' 16 May 2005 (Forum)
Hi 'mechies', Mrs V's car is making an odd noise which we can't trace. On braking there is a little squeal from the front wheels which we know is down to pad wear. However on releasing the brakes there is an odd 'squeak' coming fom the rear of the car just as the pedal is fully released.

  • grooved brake disks 8 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Why is it always reccomended that brake disks should be replaced when they become grooved. To my way of thinking grooving increases surface area between pad and disk. Is there something I'm missing here. Alvin
  • Toyota Corolla and Verso (2002 - 2007) - 03 2.0d Clunking noise when braking to 10-15mph... 19 Nov 2020 (Forum)
When I've driven the car for a few minutes a definitive single clunk/knock sound which starts happening intermittently when I apply the brake. It doesn't happen when I first press the brake and the car starts slowing, but only when the car gets to around 15-10mph. You can hear the noise inside the car and feel the clunk through the brake pedal.
  • Mitsubishi Grandis 2.4 petrol CVT - Ceramic brake pads - noisy? 6 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Dear Back Room, I am thinking about buying a 2nd hand Grandis (2008, 40k miles) which is a 2.4 petrol model with CVT. The car looks tidy all round, but with one exception - the brakes make a grinding noise that is quite noticable, and when braking in reverse they squeal lightly. The seller said that it wasn't the discs, but that he'd fitted ceramic brakes pads to uprate the brakes and since then  they were better (in terms of stopping), but that they now make the grinding noise.
