• Any - Stop / Start Systems 10 Dec 2017 (Forum)
Stop/start is also one of the root causes of one of the worst driving techniques on our roads today. The 'habit' of sitting at junctions with foot on brake blinding the driver behind with your brake lights. Instead of putting car into neutral with handbrake on, like you was taught to do for your test!!!!
• Any (preferably expendable) - NeoChoke1 8 Apr 2016 (Forum)
I havn't calculated required volume to richen it though, (maybe 10% enrichment) so maybe only 3X, which but does seem potentially attainable with lighters or small torch, with a bit of trial and error.     Going "live" on the car, I mated my brake bleeding enema syringe (Mityvac my a***..er..as it were) to a gas blowtorch, more or less closing the rear off with wadded plastic bag.     Running a bit of rubber tube (couldn't find the more rigid PVC brake-bleeding tube, which would have been better) into the air intake and turning the torch on full, it would idle by itself, which it wouldn't before.
• Audi TT (51 Plate Reg 2002) - Second Hand Car Purc 7 Apr 2013 (Forum)
£70 later, hose reconnected and coolant bottle filled (EXPENSE TO ME) car is back on the road. Mechanic did however notice the cars 'undertray' was missing, coil spring still fractured, brakes still an MOT failure, and insufficient bolt used to reconnect steering strut to drivers side front right. (presumably disconnected to get at clutch assy) Immediately contacted dealer who was less that helpful, didnt offer to re-repair or compensate me for my loss.

• Bail runs out on Friday [Read only] 28 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Apart from the stupidity of me hitting his van with my steering lock, I was very annoyed at me being there. He braked infront of me, he rammed me, he assaulted me, why was I arrested? that was 2 months ago and my bail is up on friday, I'm just curious about what will happen next?
• Jaguar S-Type (1999 - 2007) - Long term running report on an 04 diesel auto. 1 Aug 2008 (Forum)
As it wasn?t just a service but rear brakes (discs & pads), a suspension bush, wipers, a hose on the intercooler & a couple of other minor things. Whilst being serviced they loaned me a 2.2D X-Type Auto as I?d wondered if that was a reasonable down size option, although all my friends loved it we didn?

I then asked if I got 4 could he knock a bit off - he came back with a figure which was 8.8% off. He was also requested to fit new rear brake shoes. 2 days later, I dropped the car off first thing in the morning, had him make a note of my contact phone number, and went off to work. Before I left work that day, I rang to check the car was ready to pick up.
• VW MOT Con 29 Sep 2002 (Forum)
We turn up at 4:30 and are told by 5pm that my girlfriends 1998 1.6S VW Approved used car which we have had 6 months and driven 2500miles in had failed on three points: 1> Buldging brake pipe 2> Split brake servo vacuum hose 3> Broken exhaust bracket The woman was not particularly sympathetic as she delivered the new and explained how the car was too dangerous to drive. She explained we shouldn't take the car home as it was unsafe, and also because she would have to charge another £39.95 for a restest.
• Honda CR-V - Replacing suspension 27 Sep 2024 (Forum)
Spoke with the wife about it, and she is not really happy to go with it, as she think in such old car there would be something another to fix sooner or later and the car could finish in sc*** yard due to overall corrosion issue or if something major brake, so she think putting £500 for new suspension is not wise or worthy. I can order all the parts for front and rear, and then disassemble every suspension column and try to manually check if shocks and springs are still working properly, if yes, the put it back together with old springs and shocks, but if they are corroded or to stiff, then just replace with the new ones.
• 2016 Ford Galaxy - Ford BMS Reset- Heated Screen not working. 30 Dec 2022 (Forum)
This did not appear to work then I found another video for a mondeo saying to turn on the ignition then flash front lights five times and push the brake three times. I still got no flashing battery light to suggest it had reset. Has anyone any ideas what the correct reset procedure is or what could be at fault with the screen before I end up going to the main dealers?
• Nissan Qashqui Tekna 2016 - Nissan Qashqui engine failure 11 Mar 2020 (Forum)
It has a full service car plan with Nissan and has been well maintained. the mileage is approx 45,000. On the Friday, it had been in my local garage to get brake pads fitted and two weeks earlier, it had passed its second MOT. On the Saturday, I was driving along the motorway not far from home and the engine just cut out and died. No warning lights or anything.
• Ford Focus flight 2004 - Stalling and knocking, help appreciated!! 9 Jun 2019 (Forum)
So two things are going on right now, first I have a seriously annoying irritating knocking noise and the car is stalling out. So work that has been done so far: Starter, battery, clutch, manifold, cat, brake pads and shoes, callipers, rear handbrake cable, drop links, cv joints, wheel bearings, air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs. Now the stalling, this has only happened sporadically, I’ll be driving fine then all of a sudden it just feels like the cars going to stall, I try to keep it going but it eventually just splutters, knocks like hell on earth, power drops, I drop gears but even that doesn’t make a difference.

• Golf 4 1.8- 20V Turbo AUM - Golf 4 Gear issue 20 Sep 2018 (Forum)
_nkw=valeo">Valeo , never have and would have personally gone for LUK or Sachs...it came in at a cost of £109, which is waaaay too cheap if you ask me...there was no hint of a new Slave or fork...so am unsure my next idea is to change the  Transmission fluid  and check for brake fluid at the box.... I would be very grateful for any ideas on what else to do...sadly my current workshop doesnt have a ramp and I dont fancy doing gear boxes on stands... Many thanks for reading this essay..
• how to tell if i've done any damage to engine 12 Sep 2018 (Forum)
the next morning i checked the oil level again and it was indeed low, it's very hard to tell with this dipstick but to me it wasnt touching the minimum/maximum strip so ran upstairs and put a litre into it and it brought it up to the halfway point, i then drove to my dealership but they were fully booked and couldnt get me in for 2 days so drove home parked it up and left it for another 40 mins went back down to check the levels and it was close if not above the maximum area, the engine was still a little hot not sure from driving or from sitting in the sun. i had the car in a fortnight before for a brake pad change so i took it they would have done all the checks so hadnt looked at the oil level in a fortnight... but i had done a few thousand miles since then..   anyways while driving it home that night after the light had gone off i kept an eye on the engine temperture gauge to make sure it wasnt over heating and it never went above 93 and i felt no engine stutter or limp mode etc...
• 6 weeks with the Superb 1.4 TSi 150 PS 31 May 2018 (Forum)
Reset them to a minimum distance (you can turn off the Collision avoidance) and its fine with no surprise braking from the car. The ACC can still be trying at times, its easy to get in a lane on the motorway with cruise set at 73 mph and find yourself doing 65 mph without realising it simply because that is what the car in front is doing.
• Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec Climate, 2007 - Belt dressing spray 8 Aug 2016 (Forum)
Far worse than the original noise, which was still there even after application of this awful gunk. I ended up removing the mess from the belts with brake cleaner and then washing the whole lot down with hot soapy water. Sounds fine now, apart from that original noise. I'm thinking now that it might be a pulley, so I'll be orf to see the mechanic again on Monday.

Having recently posted a 'positive' story about my car passing the MOT, reasonable cost for brakes, etc., and how I was looking forward to a trip to France, it had to happen, didn't it? Trip to France went well, 1100+ miles of mixed motoring @50mpg (some loaded down with Chateau Plonk) until ...
• Small claims - what do you think my chances are? 24 Mar 2014 (Forum)
The following problems were found: Punctured tyre signifcantly scrubbed / track rod end had excessive play / front shocks completely gone / low oil in engine / worn brake pads at the front with 2mm lip plus some other minor faults. I rejected the car under SoGA because it was deemed dangerous to drive by my mechanic. I was told by the garage on several ocassions that I would have to have it repaired by them or take them to court.
• BMW 528 - Does 3rd party insurance have the legal right - 12 Sep 2013 (Forum)
I had an estimate to repair (with a new BMW bumper) from a local body shop, the estimate is £1200 however, the car is 14 years old and with high miles. The car is a modified car, with LPG conversion, uprated brakes, suspension, etc.. My insurers know about the modifications, as I pay a higher premium due to it being insured as a modified car. When the assesor sent by the 3rd parties insurers looked at the car, I expressed that I did not want the car written off.
