Peace of change 24 May 2023 (Forum)
It’s practical, lusty, great on fuel, utterly reliable and comfortable. It never put a foot wrong, other than the high level rear brake light mysteriously unplugging itself. I’m used to stretching out the battery on the electric buses I drive daily, but it won’t suit her leaden right foot driving style. But she is happy and as quiet as her new car… for now. -
Proton GEN-2 - What to do with an old Proton 12 Jun 2021 (Forum)
I'm only just thinking I'm going to have to sell it and I'm gutted. The engine has started stalling sometimes when putting the clutch down after braking from 30+mph, (either to change gear or come to a stop). Often there is a hill involved when this happens. The revs drop and while the clutch would usually stop the revs dropping and bounce them back up, sometimes it doesnt and thats when it stalls. -
No Extension - To MOT this time. News. The Guardian 10 Jan 2021 (Forum)
“Safety is paramount and it is illegal to drive a car in a dangerous condition, so make sure to check your brakes, tyres and lights before driving.” Last year all cars, vans and motorbikes with an MOT due to expire between 30 March and 31 July had the deadline by which they needed a new one extended by six months. -
Abs and handbrake light 10 Nov 2020 (Forum)
The light goes on and off when handbrake is released and engaged, it’s just decided it will come on while driving and the abs light has decided it wants to join in too. Brakes appear to be working fine as well, havnt felt any changes to them. The wheel bearing was a abs bearing (made that mistake with the front ones, this idiot bought non abs ones then wondered why the light was still on) does anyone have any ideas? -
Wheel fell off Cont 28 Dec 2019 (Forum)
The driver never drove a hgv again. A truck was going down a steep gradient in the town centre, and brakes failed and the driver had no way of stopping the vehicle. Other drivers had reported the vehicle as being faulty and many refused to take the vehicle out, but this young lad was KEEN to get experience and did what no one else would do and drove it. -
Nissan Juke - Nissan Juke Won't Start 23 Apr 2019 (Forum)
Has anyone had this type of fault before. From searching other online forums I am aware there is a brake unit fault, which can cause the juke CVT to not start, but the garage say this has been checked and is fine. All advice most welcome. Thanks to all. How8441 -
Skoda Octavia mk3 - Used car faults??? 27 Dec 2018 (Forum)
After a few days of ownership i noticed i was getting noise from nearside front suspension, the noise sounds a little like a broken spring.its only seems too do it when going over speed bumps or if there's a difference in road height and its more likely to do it if i,m braking. i took it too my local main dealer as the garage i bought it from is 70 miles away and it was checked and road tested and they reproduced the noise i asked them to leave it at that as i would be contacting the seller ,there recommendation was that it needs further investigation but there is nothing wrong visually and its safe to use but its not normal. -
Ford confirms fire-breathing Ranger Raptor pickup for UK 7 Sep 2018 (Forum)
The toughness continues under the surface, with a stiffer frame and upgraded brakes. The suspension has been designed with fast off-road driving in mind, and is intended to tackle undulating terrain at speed while providing a comfortable ride on the road. Meanwhile, a ‘bash plate’ underneath the vehicle protects vulnerable mechanical parts, and special treaded tyres are designed for maximum traction in sand, snow and mud. -
Ford B-Max ecoboost 125 - Battery condition start/stop 21 Apr 2018 (Forum)
3 Monitored the voltage, after start battery charged with 14.7 volt from the vehicle alternator shortly dropped off to 13 volts then sat at 12.3 volts only time voltage moved to 14.7 volts was when regenrative braking kicked in – (when foot taken off accelerator). 4 Ran B-Max for 3weeks with NO start /stop and minimal other drain on system and the above was repeated-did not re charge battery with smart charger-just let car take care of charging. -
Trying the Jaguar E-Pace 17 Mar 2018 (Forum)
The diesel performs quite well, but the acceleration isn't linear and there's a lag followed by a surge. - After two years of suffering the V60's parking brake, which some tortured Swedish genius elected to place by the driver's right knee, there it is again in the same benighted place in the E-Pace, and as with the Volvo, counter-intuitive in that you push for on, pull for off. -
B Max - Valuation 4 Dec 2017 (Forum)
Obviously they have to see the car first to make a final offer, but I have to admit, I'm tempted. The car is clean, having had oil change and new front brakes and tyres since I bought it, not to mention a brand new clutch via another dealer. Only problem being Christmas coming up and the need to buy quickly to replace it. If I do explore this option further I'd be likely to get a temporary runabout then look for something more permanent in the New Year. -
Honda Civic - Honda Civic Showroom launch 21 Feb 2017 (Forum)
The array of safety features on all but the base model is impressive with adaptive cruise, blind spot monitoring, collision avoidance and so on. A lot to go wrong as the car ages. The electric hand brake seems to offer manual and automatic operation options. Again probably OK for the first buyer but I'd prefer the old mechanical system. Only a simple brochure was available so I couldnt check out stuff like wheel and tyre options but I suspect the 16" has been dropped and they are all 17/18". -
Toyota Auris Touring Sports - Petrol Civic tourer or hybrid auris tourer 22 May 2016 (Forum)
I like the idea of a hybrid using the energy otherwise wasted during braking but: Is it worth it given the we don't do that many miles / we don't do much town driving? -
1995 Peugeot 405 1.8 petrol Manuel. - Car running hot 15 Nov 2015 (Forum)
The radiator does not bleed either and one of the fluid releace bits is bunged up it had a new rad about 10 years ago but that's old now... Im not very expereiced with cars, but I do the basics (disc brakes, full service and simple issues) but this seems a bit much! Doing the heater matrix was a challenge! I can't really afford to go to a garage all the time and pay someone to change bits all the time so I want to fix this before it gets worse or summer comes around. -
Vauxhall Vivaro 1.9DI 52 - Vivaro trouble starting when hot 24 Oct 2015 (Forum)
If its really a matter of replacing these pipes, then I'm pretty sure I can do it :-) I'm fairly technical, and have replaced brakes, cylinder heads in old bangers in years gone past! Its not clear in my mind what these things do, and if they need to be primed (somehow?) after fitting the new pipes. I guess this could also be an EGR valve problem? -
Renault Megane - Driving in London 23 Sep 2015 (Forum)
For example, when approaching a set of traffic lights that are red I would slow down gradually. But I see many cars accelerating then braking harshly at the last moment before the lights, even when they know the lights are red. When waiting to get out from a side road that is near to a pedestrian crossing - if the crossing is red, drivers won't let you out. -
Citroen Berlingo 1.9D 54 plate - 'Unsolvable' over-heating problem! 27 Dec 2014 (Forum)
.;-) I did get some suggestions in another thread but will keep the two seperate as that was a braking problem that is now solved. The problem is that the temperature quickly rises on the motor way at or over 70mph. Around town is fine. This morning I changed the radiator hoses and thoroughly bled the system. -

Economical Used Car - Budget up to 4k. 5 Aug 2013 (Forum)
:P), I can do most common repairs myself (Have done droplinks, struts, top mounts, bearings, balljoints, brake pads and discs, and can service my own car too) - My thinking with this is, I would very much like a vw passat tdi, running costs ok, but when it comes to repairs, tyres etc its getting pricey for me. -
Peugeot 205 GTi 1.9 (1993) - Do I keep my pristine Peugeot 205 GTi ?? 17 May 2013 (Forum)
I spent a fair bit on the car recently, with a complete professional re-spray, and sourcing new original external trim to maintain its showroom appearance. (The original lacquer was starting to craze on the roof, despite all the waxing!), and new brake lines\discs, new coolant\breather hoses and much more. The Interior is all original , and again in excellent condition. I don't use the car much nowadays, as I have my 'every day' car, and if I did sell it now, I would probably upgrade my existing car.
