Advice required please :( 21 Oct 2003 (Forum)
He said that this is due to the clutch...he said intime it shall disappear. He also said take it "easy" with the clutch, it needs to be "bedded" in like brakes. Is there any truth in this?? Thanx in advance, awaiting in anticipation Prax -
Boredom relief shortlist 13 May 2003 (Forum)
It must be decently refined and torquey, which rules out something as uncompromised as a Civic Type-R. It must respond eagerly to my right foot in any gear, and have the braking and cornering to match; performance is more important than luxury spec. Image is not a major concern. At the moment, I'm finding it hard to look beyond the basic new-shape Impreza WRX from one of the supermarkets for about £17k, which can later be upgraded via the £1600 Prodrive Performance Pack to near-STI levels of performance without the tacky stickers, wing spoilers and air-scoops. -
Why do people do that II ? 6 Apr 2003 (Forum)
As we went on our way, this guy continued doing the same thing again and again, up and down the high street - rapid acceleration, screech of tyres followed by sharp braking each time he caught up with the cars in front or had to stop at a crossing. This went on for over half an hourand yesterday morning I saw the same guy do the same thing in an even more packed high street. -
Citroen C3 - 4 month warranty.....??! 21 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Okay I say, it's less than 6 months old, sort it out. Answer back is that Citroen only warrant the brake pads/shoes for 4 months or 4000 miles. To have this repaired would cost me £160 + VAT! Also, there was no guarantee that the problem would not return immediately. Needless to say, I was deeply unimpressed and he knew it. -
Our Accident 17 Feb 2003 (Forum)
This was a fairly minor shunt in the scheme of things - I don't know the impact speed, but SO was able to hold the car on the brake and avoid it being pushed into the car in front. But the car has been written off, the rear passenger doors being pushed under the front ones. I understand about crumple zones, but surely the passenger compartment should have been more intact, any higher impact and escape from the car would have been much more difficult. -
New user looking for some omega advice 20 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Is it a good idea to get the oil changed in the transmission given its high mileage, vauxhall told me theres no need. I find in neutral the car idles very smooth but in drive when stationary (foot brake on) I can feel a little vibration. Another point is what I guess must be tyre noise, a low mid frequency rumbling except at very low speeds. The engine sounds almost silent with the windows closed, so can I reduce the tyre road noise somehow? -
Surprise, surprise! 15 Feb 2002 (Forum)
I had little choice but to go to my BMW dealership for four items in the two years that I have owned my 1992 BMW 525 estate and the cost of every one of these items has been a surprise. (The following costs each include VAT.) # The four brake bleed nipples which I bought simply as an insurance for when I changed the system fluid cost £13 the set (I expected to pay a fiver). # The rear screenwasher bottle lid cost 52 pence (I thought I might have to buy the whole bottle). # Two new gas struts for the opening glass panel in the tailgate cost just over £17 each (I was expecting nearer £45 each). # A new speedometer head cost £115. -
M1 Fog 11 Dec 2001 (Forum)
By no coincidence whatsoever, in my opinion, the majority of cars immediately turned on their fog lights, despite no deterioration in the conditions or visibility. As I am sure everyone knows, when fog lights are turned on, brake lights are harder to spot on many cars. Increased concentration was needed on the car in front, with the result that many drivers appeared to slow down to, in my opinion, unnecessarily slow speeds, and, because they were fixated on the car in front, understandably so, forgot to change lanes. -
Please give me a bus pass - not! 6 Jul 2001 (Forum)
The bus was one of those ancient Leylands that kick out a tone of particulates every time they pull away. It was R reg, ie 23/24 years old. eg ABC 123R It was puking oil all over the road. Brake light out. The driver did not know what his LH indicators were for, AT ALL EVER but they were working because he briefly used them once, literally one flash. However he knew what his right hand indicators were for, which was, and I translate ? -
Bad overtake? 6 Oct 2010 (Forum)
There was more than enough space to overtake. Once the other driver had matched my speed it's hard to say whether braking would have been a better decision. There was never any need for the other driver to brake. Once I gave my signal they could have just lifted off. It was obvious where I was going, there was oncoming traffic. -
Accessible Classic: The Fantastic, Forgotten Citro 5 Apr 2015 (Forum)
Simple: its advanced construction and unrivalled ride comfort. It had the hydropneumatic suspension and brake system of its larger siblings, disc brakes all ’round, and a newly-developed, high-revving air-cooled four cylinder engine. I drive a 1975 Citroën GS 1220 Pallas. It has the slighter larger engine of 1,222-cc, compared to the first cars, offered with just a 1,015-cc engine. -
Transporter, Vivaro, Transit - Small Motor Vans: What you need to know! 14 Apr 2013 (Forum)
The space is restricted by the giblets of the seat, and unless you use an anti slip mat, the low open box that will fit, will slide irritatingly forward everytime the Micra driver brakes for no apparent reason. Move to the dashboard though and things start to look up, lots of handy stowage space, neatly shielded from the sun, and plenty of areas that can't be seen by the potential thief. -
Please help me choose a diesel estate car 25 Feb 2013 (Forum)
The Mondeo has been working great. I have a minor issue now of the emergency brake sticking a little. Have yet to crawl under and look since I don’t have the proper tools, but at worse case, I am hoping it’s only a cable or two. -
mondeo 2003 tdci 116 hp - mondeo diesel issue log 20 Dec 2011 (Forum)
reason the seals are weak symptom :pedal will descend overnite => replace - loss of coolant reason the stupid design of the engine cover front edge will rub on the overflow pipe and will cut it causing sudden coolant loss = replace overflow pipe and cut off the corner of the cover - irregular idle and loss of power the air mass sensor will get dirty and give a poor reading => clean with brake cleaner - the engine will smoke ( black not white )and idle poorly. loss of power => the bypass recyling port on the egr valve has gone oval and is letting recirc gasses through all the time => replace or clean out with brake cleaner and a wire brush - diesel fuel on the top of the engine ( may also have a flashing glow plug light ) reason possible rubber pipe crack, or in my case wear in the seat of the hp injector lines where they mate to the injector body, you can see the tracking in the line base : amazing !!! -
Citroen C3 - bad experience with mechanic 3 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Not only did they deny seeing the car this week but they immediately told me both front tyres need replacing, they didnt look at the spare but looked for the noise and found some bolts that werent done up at all (one was on a joint going to the wheel). Furthmore they explained the brake pads were past the legal limit or recommended limt (i cant honestly remember) and needed replacing and the disks were worn and needed replacing immediately too. I'm gobsmacked and totally confused. -
Knights of the Road? 30 Jan 2007 (Forum)
He did that "I am going to show you how hard it is to accelerate" maneouvre... loads of TSSCHHHHing noises from the brakes, and the cab jerks, and the whole dangerous piece of nonsense is shaking like the locomotive that it should be if we lived in a sane, decent, safe country. Point i) Even if I HAD been in the wrong, why the over-reaction from a supposedly professional driver? -
Rear Collision 3 Apr 2006 (Forum)
The trailer (similar to a horse box) was so large that I couldn't see what type of vehcle it was. The vehicle stopped without apparent warning and I had to brake sharply to avoid hitting the back of it. I was able to stop a few feet short but the car behind didn't manage to do the same. I heard a loud thud but I don't recall feeling any impact. The driver of the car behind and I both got out to see the vehicle in front driving off. -
The WOW experience of a lifetime... 22 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I'm talking phenomenal suspension control, and a selectable paddle shift box that actually works to perfection. I'm talking ceramic brakes that rewrite the rule book, and which don't so much shed speed as lose it like pressing a switch: Together with an airbrake on the boot lid, I read some months afo that an SLR will brake to rest from 60MPH in less than 100ft, and can well believe it. -
Ford Ka etc - Small city car - runabout/learner car 6 Aug 2025 (Forum)
Having carried mot history checks on lots now, there seems to be a common theme on the Ford and Fiat that subframe/suspension/brake pipe corrosion is becoming an issue. Is this a widespread common fault in these cars does anyone know? 58 plate through to 14 plate models all seem to be afflicted. Or is the nature of the beast with cars of this age? -
Suzuki Vitara - High pitched sound when driving 24 Apr 2024 (Forum)
The car has come back and they said they couldn't hear the noise on the test drive (no big surprise as they did say the would only do a limited test drive) but suggested it might be from the brakes i.e. the pads or discs heating up after a while and somehow causing the sound - they suggested stripping and cleaning all break pads as a precaution. Which they did but it has not resolved the issue.
