MOTs 5 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Of course I suppose they could need to see if there was anything else that might fail apart from the items known about. Last year failed on light alignment and again got a fail and then a pass (even though aim adjusted for free, presumably whilst doing test). It's no skin off my nose and no qualms with the garage, just interested whether garages are audited on MOT pass/fails and so are looking for fails to put through. -
Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - (99-04)2.2 petrol - ABS problem (UK car in Malawi) 19 Apr 2008 (Forum)
We cannot see any signs of grinding on discs etc and have already replaced ABS wheel sensors, ABS ECU and ABS unit plus replaced the servo (Which on this model is on LHS of bulkhead). The car had a minor accident some months ago but all seems aligned OK. We cannot u/stand why the ABS unit pulses at such slow braking speeds on ordinary roads. -
Rover 400 (1995 - 1999) - (95-99) 1.6 16v - cam belt/timing. 26 Dec 2007 (Forum)
knocking the timeing out of sequence. My Question is: when refitting the head is it just a case of aligning the lower camshaft sprocket timing to top dead centre (TDC) and then positioning the top two sprockets(exhaust and inlet) to there correct position before refitting the cyl/head + cambelt??????? please help! -
Ford Dealer in USA 27 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I had the 30,000 mile service on my Taurus (sort of a Ford Mondeo/Sierra type of vehicle for anyone who's never been here) I got to work and they phoned me with some stuff which 'needed doing'.... Loose suspension ball joint $362 That would also need wheel alignment $125 Pollen filter $49 Dirty coolant $118 Brakes very low $230 so far I am thinking hmm... maybe that does need doing (except the pollen filter - for $49 I don't mind ingesting a bit of pollen!) -
Pothole warning - A3 slip at Tolworth 5 Mar 2007 (Forum)
It gave one bleep of a hard jolt; heavy enough to wake up my wife and cause her to ask "What was that?!" albeit in somewhat stronger language! I guess I'll have to have the tracking and wheel alignment checked now... -
Astra club - mysterious noise 1 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Hey guys, my first post on here, and im really hoping someone can help.. ive got a 52 reg astra 1.6 8v, full service history and 30k on clock, for a few weeks when going above 60mph there is a whisteling noise coming from somewhere near front drivers side, only happends at 60 and above. its recently had service and camblet/tensioners replaced - the noise was there before service and was led originally to beleieve the tensioners were to blame but new ones not fixed it. garage has checked the full car for mis aligned panels, brakes, bearings, alternator, belts and waterpump, nothing is at fault, the blower makes a very similar noise when on the highest setting, but when the noise occurs, having the air vents closed and blower off makes no difference.. any ideas what it can possibly be??? -
Another problem with me Merc 20 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I know the engine in mine is probably a heavy old lump but I've checked the fluid level, had new tyres fitted, a 4 wheel alignment at the main dealers and experimented with tyre pressures to no avail. The dealer has checked the car over, can't find any obvious faults and says that some cars will steer heavier than others and, that a possible solution may be a new steering rack. -
MKIV Golf front tyre wear 7 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Pointed out to VW at first service but feedback was \"tyres legal, plenty of tread left.\" I was not convinced so had the alignment checked by an independant.Camber, toe setting and castor all OK within spec. No feathering and tyres are inflated to correct pressures. Been back to VW who do not know what to suggest, only that perhaps my tyres are prone to wear like this! -
Damage to door 19 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Can I push for a new door, or will the other insurance company try to go with the cheapest option? Or can the existing door be sucessfully re-aligned after repair? The car is in extremely good condition, so I want it returned to its previous state. Any thoughts? -
Passat 'noise' 25 Apr 2001 (Forum)
Had my 99 Passat in a couple of weeks ago for what VW called a "track rod end recall." The garage said it involved work on the track rod ends, steering geometry and alignment. Since then, have just been using it to and from work on country roads. This weekend, however, took it up the motorway and there now seems to be - how can I put this? - a sort of rumbling noise coming from the front of the car that wasn't there before. -
