  • Headlight adjustment 24 Jun 2002 (Forum)
There are 5 settings to compensate for load, but no sign of any way to adjust the left -right alignment. Also does the law require you to carry spare bulbs in France, or is it just advised?
  • n/a - Petrol/diesel can be hard to find in France. 30 May 2016 (Forum)
To stop repeat fuel buying stations have disabled the 24 hour pumps as well.  Best advice is to fill before you get on the ferry and top up as you go in France wherever you can find fuel on your journey. Diesel is the first fuel to run out at fuel stations, about 70% of cars are diesel over here. UL95 seems to be more readily available The shortages have been worse in the north and north-west but are spreading south.

  • Bringing a used car back from France 30 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Her mother has given my wife her 1992 Citroen AX and we have processed the correct forms from the prefecture in Lyon, France for exporting the vehicle. It has temporary plates that we have been told can be on the car for a period of one month before we register the vehicle in the UK. Problem 1 The car needs to be insured for me to get it from France, but no insurance company will insure the vehicle until it is on UK soil.

  • renault scenic knock 23 Aug 2004 (Forum)
My scenics developed a knock, I think is coming from the front end, it only occurs when I'm accelerating round a corner, it happens turning either left or right, driving in a straight line is no problem. I have just come back from France having covered 1800 miles, the noise was there as we get to France but has not got worse during that time, the car is 1998 model & has done just under 60'000 miles, any ideas please.

  • Check your passports before heading for France 23 Jul 2009 (Forum)
If he manages to sort out his problem he will then drive straight to Plymouth where my sister in law and the kids are in their caravan which has been parked on a site there since yesterday. Yesterday, they drove from Cheshire with the van in tow to catch a ferry to France last night for their holiday. They were turned back at the port. Neither adult had noticed that the kid's passports have expired. The only passport office with an available appointment was Durham and then only for tomorrow AM.
  • France/Italy or Scotland - Early March or May? 26 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Unsure of the latter - but need to start planning the March trip shortly Any advice on missing school holidays in March and May in France and on the best chance of finding hotel vacancies (on the day) abroad? Previously we have only headed south from Calais in late May or September. It`s around 500 miles to get up to north of Applecross from here - only a little less than Reims.. another day from there would be passing through the Alps..
  • Cars used by rental firms - UK, France, Germany 29 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Observations: 1) When I hire a car in France, using Europcar, and choosing the cheapest category, I always seem to get a Renault Clio. (When I use Budget, it is a lot more unpredictable.) 2) I recently hired a car at a UK airport - Europcar, cheapest category - and got a Peugeot 308 (an upgrade!).
  • Speed camera on A75 - France 10 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Oncoming drivers had had a good view and gave adequate warning so everything had slowed down. Good journey back, 780 miles, and was I glad the bulk of the miles were in France! Back in the UK, he A2 was closed just outside Dover, and the subsequent delay meant that by the time I reached the M25 (23.00) you could not turn North without a tortuous diversion. The Blackwall tunnel was clear, but ended in a long jam somewhere in East London where an underpass was closed. -- pmh (was peter)
