  • Audi RS 4 - Dealer selling dangerous cars. 14 Feb 2019 (Forum)
Last November I bought a used RS4 from a specialist dealer. I paid £35,000 for it. Within 48 hours a serious brake problem developed. The work has cost me £4000. The dealer denied any responsibility. I am suing. As part of the background research I am doing for my solicitor, I found a website showing a review on the same dealer that had been submitted by somebody unknown to me who bought a car from the same dealer at about the same time.
  • Jaguar X-Type 2.0d 2004 182k - The Old Girl Rolls On 27 Nov 2018 (Forum)
'Chwarae teg' ('fair play') as we say here, when I collected the car he had done the tyres, checked/topped the coolant, oil, brake and steering fluids, put it up om the ramp and given it  a quick pre-mot to check she was ok for the winter.  (Nothing to report). Total cost: £115 plus a tin of chocolate biscuits for the boys' tea break.

  • Toyota Auris - Auris Hybrid 2013 - maintenance 28 Jul 2018 (Forum)
I know its complicated new tech but can I still do the following jobs myself?  1. change engine oil and filter 2. Change radiator coolant 3. change brake pads/discs 4. change auxilliary belts (if it has them) 5. change air/fuel filters I really do not want a car which has to go to the dealer for routine servicing, I cannot afford it.
  • Bus drivers 26 Feb 2018 (Forum)
But, I had plenty of experience with buses that were virtually impossible to stop smoothly. Sometimes this would be due to very grabby brakes, sometimes it would be transmission jerking badly on its way down the gears, sometimes a combination of both. Also, and i don't know what company you were travelling with, and what their particular setup was, but with stagecoach it wasn't unusual to have buses from other depots on loan, buses which would not be familiar to the driver.
  • Half-witted lorry driver! 20 Feb 2018 (Forum)
I was about five cars from the lights and at least fifteen cars behind me, cold morning so exhaust vapour clearly visible from cars in the queue and most likely plenty of brake lights lit up, eventually vehicles start to come through the roadworks and promptly stop along side me, looked in my mirror and a lorry had overtaken the queue of cars and met the oncoming traffic now coming through the roadworks.
  • Where can I get proper bulbs? 1 Mar 2017 (Forum)
Hello,   One of my rear globes popped last week which acts as both aux light and a brake light. It didn't have markers really but it basically was a P21 something, single filament when I looked at what he stores had.  I had the same problem with the Touareg at some point but then found a proper Osram bulb that I had lying around at the house.
  • BMW 5-Series Rear-End Collision 5 Aug 2016 (Forum)
On impact, the drivers seat was thrown backwards, as the bolts that held the front of the seat to the rails broke. The result was that he was left facing the ceiling of the car, trying to brake to avoid hitting anyone in front of him. The car was an R-registered 520i. He has pursued the issue with BMW UK, and after much correspondance they have returned a verdict, (without having examined the seat), that there is no problem with the seat doing this.

  • Ford SMax 2007 Titanium Diesel - Clutch Failure - wings severed 19 May 2016 (Forum)
This time there are signs that the clutch plate has been vibrating, but the wngs have gone again too. Is there anything in the engine that would cause enough vibration to brake the clutch. The engine just over-revved when it went, and of course I then coasted to the hard shoulder The engine isn't noisy as such but is does make a noise whilst idling which my sons Galaxy doesn't.
  • Toyota Auris - Manufacture`s extended warranty 1 Apr 2016 (Forum)
I`ve looked at the T&C`s and the dreaded `Wear and Tear` proviso is stated in them. Is it worth buying the warranty? I fully realise that service items like brake pads are not covered but it seems to me that the above provise lets  them off any hook since everything is worn to some extent. Has anyone had experience of claiming off these type of warranties.

  • Honda Jazz 2009 - Driving an automatic in the snow 19 Aug 2015 (Forum)
I would appreciate any advice as to whether this would be a wise move & whether I can change up & down gears or use the engine to brake at all in an automatic? The gear lever has A/M, +, -, N, R. No winter settings or 2nd gear. Can I use the + setting to go up a gear?  All advice appreciated!
  • FIAT Ducato autoking 630ck - Excessive crankcase pressure 23 Jul 2015 (Forum)
Last year I had 2 x pistons replaced due to overheating. Drove away from garage  and oil light was flickering occasionally when braking or going around corners (thought this was just faulty electrics or just general age of vehicle). Got it home (200 miles from garage), left it for a while, took it for MOT and oil was coming out of Rocker gasket, since fixed.
  • Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - 2002 - dashboard cut out when cold 26 Jun 2015 (Forum)
When I say "cut out", the lighting stays on but the dials, radio, indicators etc. all cut out. The indicators don't work and I don't think the brake lights work either. This cures itself when I switch the engine off and restart it. After about 20-30 minutes (i.e. when warm), the problem goes away. I have asked Vauxhall and they said another customer recently had it and replacing the dashboard didn't help and they still don't know what the problem is.
  • peugeot 307 - clutch.....heeeeelllp 18 Nov 2014 (Forum)

  • Ford Focus Zetec 1.6 TDCI 09 plate - Ford Focus 09 - loss of power, intermittant 24 Jun 2014 (Forum)
My 09 Focus has an intermittant issue - when I'm driving along (and sometimes while stationary), all power to the engine goes, and the engine cuts out. When I'm driving and it does it, it feels like I've hit the brakes; the revs carry on, but when I coast to a standstill, it stalls and cuts out. I can normally re-start it, but it happens 2 or 3 times in a row! I'm not very technical I'm afraid, and it's just passed it's service - they couldn't see any obvious faults anywhere.
  • Ford Galaxy - Is all this "equipment" stuff that goes wrong? 26 Mar 2014 (Forum)
Never having had a higher end vehicle, I was blown away by the programmable self adjusting seat/mirror thing, the dual zone climate control, the central locked fuel filler, the electric parking brake, the tyre pressure monitoring, etc, etc. I really wanted to buy it. It had been well looked after, 75k miles and pretty much good as new. But a little pragmatic voice kept telling me all that comfort equipment was just going to fail and cost a fortune to put right.
  • Cleaning alloy wheels 11 Jan 2014 (Forum)
I just had an epiphany whilst cleaning swmbo's car this morning.   The alloys were looking pretty grubby with road salt, brake dust and general muck from the roads. Cleaning with soapy water hasn't been too effective in the past and I am loathe to use "alloy wheel cleaner" as they can often be too harsh (especially as the alloys are rather brittle mazda ones).
  • V reg 1.8 Ford Focus - Ford Focus rear lights 28 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Dashboard lights are also off, not sure if they were before or not. I took the reg plate bulbs out and they looked blown. Front lights, brake lights, hazard, indicators etc work Tried checking fuses, didn't see any obvious problems but not sure if I even checked the correct ones. Any suggestions? Could it just be all the bulbs blew?
