Cleaning alloy wheels - groaver

I just had an epiphany whilst cleaning swmbo's car this morning.

The alloys were looking pretty grubby with road salt, brake dust and general muck from the roads.

Cleaning with soapy water hasn't been too effective in the past and I am loathe to use "alloy wheel cleaner" as they can often be too harsh (especially as the alloys are rather brittle mazda ones).

After washing the car, I topped up the fluids and thought I would clean the plastics over the engine with one of those "miracle sponges". As I did so, i thought, will it work on the alloys?

DID IT EVER!!

The wheels were instantly cleaned and all the yellowing disappeared too.

As these sponges don't have chemicals in them, they shouldn't be harsh on the alloys either.

I just wondered if anyone else uses them to clean the car.

I hope it helps others with dirty wheels. :)

Do you live in Oz? Did you bring back from Oz? Did you get it sent from Oz? Coz when I clicked on your link it is in Oz and when I clicked on the places to get hold of it it gave me a choice of Oz states.

Is it available here or not?

You can get them in Asda.

I use Autoglym "Clean Wheels". Spray on, leave a while (or get it working with a brush) then wash off.

The link was really just to show the type of product.

I have bought the sponges in Poundland shops as well as supermarkets.

Finally got there. Why didn't you just mention it in the first place, along with the link. Thanks for letting us know.
