  • Peugeot 206 Cutting Out 14 Feb 2005 (Forum)
The dealer has been unable to trace the fault but has replaced the fuel pump, filters, and the entire exhaust system as he said the cat had completely packed up. The car is 5 years old and has done 80k. I'm sorry but I don't have anymore information than that. Does anybody have any idea as to the cause? Thanks in anticipation for your help. Mark
  • 406 HDi Brake Fluid Warning 17 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Typical, just as I put the old Pug up for sale I get a new warning light appear!! When I apply the handbrake I get a beep and the computer tells me that the "Brake Fluid Level Low". It isn't low - it's right on the max mark. The handbrake holds the car fine, and in fact it just passed the MOT since this warning started appearing.
  • SEAT Leon - Buy now or not ? 23 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Looking to replace SWMBO's car so took a test drive in a 6 month old SEAT Leon SE 130 TDi. Did drive very well, powerful engine, enough space etc. Price however was £13,600 from main dealer, which seems high given a new model is out early in the new year.
  • Petrol grades and unleaded 4 star 22 Oct 2004 (Forum)
I know the for and against Optimax argument has raged over many posts but I have noticed that Sainsburys sell unleaded 4 star for just 2p more per litre. My BMW 530 handbook recommends 98 octane. I only recently noticed this weeks after buying the car and running it on 95 octane. The Sainsbury's unleaded 4 star is 97 octane. Is this a poor man's Optimax? Incidently my 3 year old 530 runs well on 95 but I must try Optimax soon and compare it.
  • How many backroomers drive automatics? 30 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Until about six years ago, I'd always considered an auto box the 'soft option', requiring an obligatory Trilby hat on the rear parcel shelf. At that time I 'inherited' an old Audi 100 auto, and have not owned a manual transmission car ever since! A lot of my commuting was down a very busy dual carriageway (the A14 between Huntingdon and Cambridge), with traffic frequently crawling or at a standstill.
  • Stainless steel exhausts -- Toyota V6 18 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Price for the Camry V6 unit, whether they take out the old cat or leave it in, will be £329 all in, which sounds all right. Does anyone know if they are any good?
  • Noisy Saab Diesel 13 Sep 2004 (Forum)
I am taking the car for its first service soon and was wondering if this is a thing I should ask them to look at ?
  • Fiat Slilo Windows 17 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I\'m beginning to wonder if they believe me - I think they think the car has been broken into!
  • Clio - brake fluid in coolant! 5 Jun 2004 (Forum)
I suggested they quickly get it drained, flushed and refilled. My question on their behalf is what kind of damage will this have done? The car is a 3 year old, 13,000 miles, Clio 1.6 16v petrol (import). It hasn't given any problems at all even since this "incident" which I find strange but I'm no expert. Thanks very much in anticipation.
  • HT lead longevity - Audi A6 26 Apr 2004 (Forum)
My \'98 Audi A6 2.8 85,000 is starting roughly on damp mornings [recent new plugs] - does anyone agree might be worth renewing HT leads? In previous VW/Audi cars they only seem to last about this long, yet my 24yr old TR7 [62,000m] works well on the originals [carbon fibre, not copper, although I trimmed of 1/2\" at the plug ends not so long ago where they had got hot and deteriorated].
  • Tyre out of shape 26 Feb 2004 (Forum)
At first I thought the wheel was out of balance but neither me, nor the wife remembered curbing anything. Admittedly the tyre is over 2 years old and has about 40K onit. It is a well know good brand (not cheap). All of my tyre pressures are correct etc. Has this ever happend to anyone before? The car has not stood, I use it everyday.???
  • Megane seized caliper. 19 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Looks like I'll have to replace the caliper, is there anything I should look out when doing this job as it has ABS? I've done a caliper replacement on non-ABS cars before without any trouble. Not really sure why it decided to seize up, its not like its particulary old. I managed to wind the piston back in with a G-clamp, but it did feel stiffer than I would expect.
  • timing chain nissan micra 30 Oct 2003 (Forum)
recently bought a 2 1/2 year old micra with 13500 miles on the clock which appear genuine. The car has been laid up a lot since new and I bought as a repo. The timing chain rattled a lot on start up and was fixed under warranty by the local nissan dealer, tho' there is no service history as the original dealer it was bought from ceased trading.
  • 1987 Isuzu Piazza 8 Sep 2003 (Forum)
The thing is that I've found an unmolested 1987 model with 6 months MoT, 85,000 miles, 1 0wner from new with Full Isuzu service history and lots of old receipts in excellent condition for about £500. Would I be really stupid to buy it and just be getting myself a load of problems or is it a good car at a good price? Thanks in advance Chris
  • Rusting on Mondeo Mk3 Hatch 11 Aug 2003 (Forum)
I have taken it to my local dealer who says its not covered under the 12 year warranty but would be under the 1 year paint warranty (car 19 months old). He has taken some photo's and will send the case to Ford to see if they will cover it. Any comments? Anyone else had this problem? James

  • Weird and Wonderful? 15 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Anyway I have omitted the owners name for fear of public persecution:-) "An Austin Maestro stolen from its 39 year old owner, was found sub merged in a canal with its headlights STILL ON in long Eaton, Derbyshire." Now who thinks this has made the news because (i) It is weird that the car was found with the lights STILL ON?
  • ageing space wagon 16 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Its been regularly serviced by a Mitsubishi garage.....any thoughts on the longer term reliability of this car.I cant afford to have a car that breaks down as it has to do long journeys abroad with its less than fit driver! Keep it or Can it???
  • Peugeot 306 XLDT 22 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Also water seems to be comming in to the drivers footwell, about 1/2 inch of standing wayter this morning!, following a downpour. I think it is comming from the outer main seals. The car is 8 years old. How much would a Peugeot dealer charge for renewing both sides and can it be done elsewhere cheaper? Thanks for any help.
  • Peugeot 807 - first sighting? 18 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Quite a striking sight. Expect an article next month in one of the motoring mags - 'Big Funny Looking French Cars - Group Test'. Saw a Ford Fusion as well, in a metallic beige/brown that reminded me of old Cortinas. Still no more Fiat Stilos though - have Fiat given up altogether trying to shift them, or do they only come out at night to avoid embarrassment?
