  • Disputed MOT 16 Nov 2003 (Forum)
My Galaxy failed its MOT yesterday at the local Ford main dealer ("significant braking effort recorded on all 4 road wheels even though brakes are not applied") - which I thought was a load of bull as I'd have noticed it in everyday use, plus the computer would have shown increasing fuel consumption.

  • Oh no!!! Not more Astra problems?..... 7 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Hi, Have just found that the brake lights and reverse lights on my Astra have stopped working. Tried changing a bulb or two, but makes no difference and anyway all the bulbs look ok. HWMO took a look at the fuse box, and couldn't find a section for a fuse controlling both brake and reverse lights, but he's sure there must be one or at least hopes so, otherwise there could be a more sinister problem.
  • Strange Noise 28 May 2003 (Forum)
The sound drops away when i drop speed to about - 30, and is inconsistent as sometimes it is there, somtimes not. I have recently changed all the brakes and the noise does not seem to be related to the brakes anyway. would appreciate any ideas cheers!

Drive Shaft Boots Compression test (Is this over kill?) Listen for rattles at all revs Coolant Oil Brake noise Does it drive straight with hands off wheel Ditto under braking. -- These are my own opinions, and not necessarily those of all Toads.
  • VW MKIII GTI ABS Fault 15 Aug 2002 (Forum)
The ABS warning lamp illuminates for no apparent reason with no other symptoms noticed. 2. The ABS operates when braking gently at low speeds in dry conditions with no warning lamp illuminated. 3. The ABS operates when braking at low speeds in dry conditions followed by the warning light being illuminated. Turning the ignition off/on resets the warning light and the problem may not come back for a couple of days.

  • Nissan Micra K14 2018 1.5 diesel 2018 - Multiple Warning Lights all at once 28 Sep 2024 (Forum)
However now they have all come back on and have been on for a couple of weeks as I have checked everything I can check. Obvious wiring faults, reconnected all connectors I can reach, brake fluid level, OBD2 checker showing no faults (a small Sealey unit about 10 years old). The car is still running great giving great MPG, braking well and performing as it should. One thing I will mention which might be a clue or just a waste of time is that the windscreen was changed about a month beforehand and I think cameras and radar may have to be refitted.
  • Vauxhall Meriva - How do I tackle issue with local garage? 30 Sep 2020 (Forum)
I took it to my nearest Vauxhall main dealer this time, and they have fixed the issue with the power steering, but as part of their checks they advised me that there is "brake fluid around the bottom of the gearbox - possibly due to slave starting to leak" - and told me that the gearbox likely needs replacing! When I explained to them that the gearbox was replaced earlier this year for the same issue (brake fluid leak) by my local garage - they seemed surprised, and told me that I should go back to my local garage to get it checked out by them.
  • MK3 Mondeo tddi - Really strong vibration 6 Jul 2016 (Forum)
I'm thinking that it could be something to do with a driveshaft, but could it be the gearbox mount causing this ? The brake pedal was pulsing under braking previously which made me think it was a warped disc, but it doesn't appear to be now. Any advice or help would be much appreciated, regards, Dave.
  • Volkswagen Polo III 2001 1.4 Petrol 8v - Brake pad and disc confusion 1 Feb 2015 (Forum)
I'm trying to buy parts to replace the front discs and pads on my 2001 1.4 8v petrol VW Polo.  Engine code is AUD. There are a number of different braking systems fitted to this year of Polo and I'm getting confused as to which type I have. The caliper is marked with a code "216214" which seems to relate to a Kelsey Hayes or Bendix caliper. So far so good.
  • Audi A3 Cabriolet - How to deal with possible fake jobs?? 1 Oct 2014 (Forum)
But no. Cost £200. I said I had a tyre and id drop it in. Upon getting there I'm told my LED brake light strip is not working and needs replacing at a cost of 130.00. This was working definately the day before as I had been stopped by a bored copper to inform me my brake light was out yet as I had a visual LED strip I was advised to go on my way and get it repaired ASAP.
  • Rover 25 1.6 2003 - Reverse gear grind help 24 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Will changing the gear oil make a difference , or is this problem a sign gear oil is low? Problem 2 The brake pedal vibrates sometimes randomly. I changed the front brake discs and brake pads thinking the discs and pads were causing the problem. I have been told it is just the abs kicking in when the wheels detect the road surface is uneven.is this the problem or is it something else.
  • Ford Focus - Vibration wobble under load 16 Apr 2013 (Forum)
HI can any one help, had my mk1 focus for 12 years 83,000 milesnow and the last two years it has a fault thats geting slowly worse. the car only vibrates/wobbles under load 45mph+. no vibration through the steering but is felt through the whole car. the more weight is in the car and the more load it is under it gets worse. as soon as the throttle is release the vibration goes. i have had new tyres fitted, another two wheels fitted as found buckles in them. wheels balanced and tracking done, o/s drive shaft changed, new front disc and pads but alas its still there. the only thing i have noticed is when the near side front wheel is jacked up and the car is run at any speed in any gear and the brakes are applied the vibration comes apparant. if i put it in 1st 10mph with foot on throttle also on brake and  go as slow as i can it feels like something like thuding.. as soon as i release the brake the thuding stops, it doesn't do this when i do this on the drivers side. could it be drive shaft cv joints, final drive or gear box. any help please its driving me nuts!
  • Chrysler PT Cruiser (2000 - ) - Parts not exactly free... 28 Jan 2010 (Forum)
He said the o/s disc had taken some punishment and anyway had corrosion on the inside braking surface. They weren't exactly free and neither were the pads. Twice what they would have cost for the Escort or more. When fitting the pads he found the cause of the binding that had stopped us: corrosion, he thought, as a result of the brake fluid not having been changed, causing the piston to stick.
  • Beware hiring an "automatic" car. 2 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I rolled to a halt on an incline, switched off, removed key then of course as soon as I took my foot off the brake I needed to jerk on the hand brake. I am used to driving manuals and autos plus an interest in cars. Any hirer with an "autos only" license could find themselves in trouble especially as the common switch off, take the key out and do not apply the hand brake is routine.
  • Daihatsu Charade (2003 - 2006) - 03 1.0 Mystery clonking noise 16 Jun 2009 (Forum)
The sound also happens when the engine is under load in the higher gears, say 25-40 mph in 4th, approx 1500-2300 rpm, but disappears as soon as you take your foot off the gas and also at higher revs so perhaps the vibration at lower rpm is a clue? The noise also stops when you apply the brakes ( I left foot braked at 35 and the noise stopped immediately ). Its really puzzled me and both garages ive had look at it who have check all the front suspension and bushes, wheel bearings and had a general look around.
