  • Toyota Auris - Squeaky noise from one rear wheel 10 Dec 2015 (Forum)
It comes and goes but can be quite piercing. On a right hand bend I don't hear it, and I don't hear it when the brakes are applied. It's disc brakes all round I was thinking a worn disc, but I don't know. Any ideas welcome? Many thanks
  • Saab 93 Vector - Advice needed 1 May 2015 (Forum)
I have a 2006 Saab 92 2.0 Vector and has been on my drive for the last 3 months with the front tires just about flat, i managed to pump them up but one of them has a flat spot, after driving it for about 10 miles the flat spot noise seems to have subsided, the only issue i have now is that when i apply the brake i get the same kind of noise as the flat spot (front left n/s brake)   Any ideas as to why it could be?     Regards

Hello, can anyone help me find a workshop manual for the 's' type Civic.I've been in touch with Haynes and they don't have a manual in print (amazing considering the number you see on the roads),so I'm looking for alternatives.I'm going to have a go at the front and rear brake pads first, does any one know if any special tools are needed before I start on these apart from the usual wheel/brake tools. Thanks

  • VW Golf 1.9 TD 05 - ? bearing gone 29 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Got a Golf with just under 50K on the clock.Had new brakes and discs on the front 6months ago. They are not VW ones and they squeak when the brakes are applied. Not long after it developed a droning noise, sounds like its coming from the rear. The noise gets louder especially if you go into a roundabout.Took it to a garage and the two very qualified chaps said they were not convinced it was a bearing.Told me to go away and put a few more miles on it and go back.Does it sound like a bearing has gone?
  • BMW3 series 320d es '05' - Squeak from rear 17 Jul 2010 (Forum)
HI What is this squeak? When driving slowly there is a squeak from my rear offside that sounds like brakes squeaking that goes on and off as the wheel turns round. I have had the back discs and pads changed as these needed doing anyway but this squeak is still there? Today when I parked I pushed down on the boot and it squeaked each time I did it but it does sound like a brake noise and not creaky suspension.
  • Mazda Mazda 6 (2008 -) - Steering problem. 18 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I have an 08 Mazda 2.0 6 sport. For a few weeks now the steering intermidantly veers left or right. Sometimes when I apply the brakes but by no means every time. Often happens when I don't even touch the brakes. Can be when I accelerate or decelerate. My local dealer says it may need "super tracking" whatever that is, and why after only a few months driving should it need it?
  • Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - How much is this work worth? 2 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Front wheel cylinders ( brakes - their description, not mine ) Balance all wheels HT Leads Oil/Filter, plugs, fuel filter Front anti-rollbar bush Brake fluid This is on a 93 Astra 1600 auto with 104k. I get the feeling my dad is being made a mug of with the price and the list of work ( initially just in for a small service ) but ive stopped short of telling him as he is stubborn.

  • The guy with the runaway car?? 2 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Biggest load of old cobbler I ever heard in my life...surely it is better to have no PAS and heavy brakes in an unpowered car, rapidly decelerating, than to have a car doing 100+mph with burnt out brakes etc? Just wondering what the outcome was. Component part.
  • Motoring masterclass 19 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Note the sequence of events observed on the A41 westbound between Tring and Aylesbury at about 9.00 this morning: * High-grade dual carriageway nearly empty * Driver of blue Peugeot approaches car in front, outside lane clear * Peugeot gets so near to car in front that brakes have to be used * Peugeot moves into outside lane * Peugeot signals right when already straddling lane boundary * Peugeot returns to inside lane so close to other car that brake lights appear on other car.
  • MOT nonsense. 11 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Had car mot'd today. Car passed, but was amazed seeing the subjectiveness of the brake test. The car was tested on the rollers with the tester watching a flickery needle on an analogue dial. He judged it was reading 150 on the right and 200 on the left, I reckon the error in this measurement must be at least 20%.

  • Fiesta Ghia P-Reg Wheel Screech 5 Jan 2006 (Forum)
The squeak doesn't occur from cold and is evident after a short drive, being particuarly noisy at lower speeds. The noise ceases when the brakes are depressed. It's going to the garage next week but I'd like some idea of what to expect, they didn't seem to think it was a wheel bearing problem, more likely something with the brakes.... help!
  • Distances between cars - M4 this morning 4 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Huge smash on M4 at 8am today between jct 26 and 27 I put the brakes on, the guy behind me swerved to avoid my rear end, but he got hit from behind, and another 10 or so cars couldn't stop in time, and all ended up introducing themselves to each other. When will people learn to leave adequate braking distances?
  • VW Polo '02: Servicing? 6 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Its not being serviced (next week) by a VW dealer: I want to ensure that all that should be done will be. Any idea what this should cost? The car is in warranty, two years' old; the brakes have always been a little noisy, since new. Should I expect VW to look at them? I think HJ has said in the past that brakes were an issue with this car. Many thanks frmarcus
  • Keep your distance! 11 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Just read an article in the telegraph about accidents being staged in order to claim thousands of pounds off the 'guilty' party's insurance company. Most of them seem to involve a car braking in front of you sharply and they have often disabled the brake lights so a following car is more likely to end up in the back of them. They then claim for loss of earnings, whiplash as well as damage to the car.
