Lost for words.

Me and my wife were looking for a stop gap car to use as a second car for six months until we could get another. We were just going to use it for dropping our daughter to school and some very short journeys. Saw a VW Polo 97 looked pretty scruffy with 115K miles. Had rust and welding done. But for £300 we couldn't bother much and it had 10 months MOT. The car drove well, and we started doing longer journeys in it. Using it one the motorways gave us very good mileage, held very well on the road the original radio still worked. The car had obviously been abused badly by the 3 previous owners but engine started first time and no rattles from anywhere.
One day 3 months ago while driving on the motorway engine started heating up and had to stop, opened the hood let it cool. Opened the oil cap realized head gasket had gone. Put the heater on to divert heat away and drove away our exit was only 3 miles away. Got off the motorway and realized oil light was on as well. Home was only 10 more miles so kept on going. Reached home called AA who said the engine is cooked. Head gasket is gone, just bin it. I put some oil in the next day twisted the key first time start, started heating up used car heater to divert heat away did test drive and drove ok. Drove the car another 1800 miles with a blown heat gasket! Though for short journeys. Forgot to check oil level and my wife actually drove for 600 miles with almost no oil! Sc***ped it for £80 recently. We were very impressed with this car and the amount of abuse it took and refused to die, I doubt VW makes them like this any longer. Imagine if this car had been serviced regularly and not been trashed it would have gone on for ever. It was very well screwed together. If you are looking for a cheap run around get this model
