Great quality car, everything works perfectly

My VW Polo SEL 110ps dsg is almost perfect. Lovely to drive, quick, refined, well built, easy to use and park in the city. The engine is brilliant, plenty of power and torque. The car was a bit expensive, but has front/back parking sensors, fab LED headlights, 16in wider wheels for handling and headlight wash wipe, folding mirrors and a great stereo - it was low mileage and unmarked by previous owner, you get what you pay for mostly, dealerships are more expensive but have a lot of the best cars. The heating and ventilation work perfectly and mpg varies from 43 to 59, which I think is good for a small auto box. Low £20 tax.

The only minor criticisms I have is the rear legroom is tight if adults over 5ft 8in sitting in front, the super Continental tyres only last about 10k miles on the front (I forgive them because they are really grippy and quiet, smooth riding), the servicing is a bit expensive. The DSG clutch takes a second or so to engage at standstill but the 'box is always in the right gear and really responsive, smooth and quiet, you need to allow for the fact it does not have a torque converter and drive a bit more positively.

I think is has just beaten my 2003 Mazda 323 to win my approval! The Mazda was previously the car I became most attached to ( reliable, well built and very smooth drive with good room for the family and boot space) but it let itself down with wheel arch rust and an appetite for Lambda sensors. I am hoping to keep the Polo for a while. The German build of the Polo inspires more confidence especially the paintwork which is a weak point of a lot of cheaper Japanese cars I have driven. Light build in Nissan and Suzuki cars I have had have caused a number of refinement issues, I guess they are built down to a price.
