Spacious, comfortable, practical family car

Never had a hybrid before but have owned one from new covered 7k miles no problems so far. Very spacious inside, plenty of head and leg room, very comfortable leather seats, very easy and pleasurable to drive. 3rd row suits kids best but ok for adults on short journeys. This car is far bigger inside than you would expect looking at its external dimensions. The dashboard styling is rather dated (80’s looking digital display) and some cheap lightweight plastics let it down a bit and, but the things you actually touch (steering wheel, buttons, seats etc) are all good quality tactile materials. Lots of standard kit too, although the touch screen audio system and sat nav take a bit of getting used to.

Performance is brisk and effortless but it does get quite loud under hard acceleration. But it’s a people carrier and I drive it as such. Drives like a normal automatic petrol car when in power mode, although it uses a bit more fuel that way. Still very economical though, average around 45-55 mpg in power mode round town, more on a run. Expect even better figures than that driving in eco mode. The continuous switching between electric and petrol is virtually unnoticeable, sometimes its eerily silent. A word of caution though – pedestrians have a habit of stepping out in front of you especially round town where background noise totally drowns out the quiet hum of the car!

This car divides opinion and maybe wont be to everyone’s taste, it’s a bit unconventional but personally I really like it and would certainly recommend anyone looking for a compact 7 seater considers it. It’s currently the only hybrid 7 seater around so doesn’t really have any direct competition, but hopefully it will prompt other manufacturers to introduce hybrid people carriers.
