SEAT introduces all-wheel drive Leon model

Published 24 June 2014

SEAT has added a ruggedly styled, all-wheel drive version of the Leon ST to its range. Called the ‘X-Perience’ it is powered by a choice of 150PS or 184PS 2.0 TDI diesel engine. Prices are to be confirmed, but expect it to cost from around £23,000 when it arrives in the UK in September.

The Leon X-Perience has increased ground clearance and uses a Haldex all-wheel drive system like that in the Skoda Yeti. It’s an automatic system that detects wheel slip and applies drive to whichever wheel needs it. Under normal driving conditions it sends almost all power to the front wheels, which improves efficiency.

The 150PS 2.0 TDI engine emits 126g/km of CO2 and has official economy of 57.6mpg, while the more powerful, 184PS model produces 133g/km with 55.4mpg. The 184PS engine comes with a DSG automatic transmission as standard, while the 150PS engine comes with a six-speed manual.

SEAT describes the interior of the Leon X-Perience as ‘premium.’ It’s trimmed in grey or black fabric as standard brown Alcantara or black leather is optional. Other key options include adaptive cruise control, full-LED lighting and lane-keep assist.

Externally the X-Perience has black plastic bumpers and side sills with aluminium-effect details, along with unique alloy wheels in 17-inch or 18-inch sizes, plus black roof rails. The full UK specification is to be announced closer to the car’s arrival in showrooms in September 2014.

Not sure what the point of this is when the VW stable has already got the Octavia 4x4 estate?t doesn't seem to add much to the Octavia and you can be sure it'll cost more so why bother
