Citroen Synergie - engine temperatur gauge and heater - bazzakells

our engine temperature gauge is rising to the max and then the stop light comes on for a few minutes then temperature comes back down without stopping the car. only happened since the extreme cold weather. we do have anti-freeze in the car so not sure whats going on. also at the same time this is happening the heater inside the car has stopped blowing hot air.

any ideas or is it just simply the cold weather ?

Airlock possibly, Check that the system is fully bled, if not bled it.

If its not the head gasget then I would think a thermostat is stuck or like the above post says air in the system.

Hi,

there is a posibility that you had some frozen water in the system - get the antifreeze strength checked. There is also a chance that this happened in the area of the thermostat and now its broken/ jammed open. These things are easily checked before you go to the expense of a head gasket. My money is on the thermostat....
