Hello,

Well I insured my bike with e-Bike a couple of months ago, great website, easy to declare modifications etc, you choose your excess, great price.

With car and bike you can PAYG or buy an annual policy plus you can insure up to four vehicles on one policy.

So now the wife's car is up for renewal, put the details into Confused.com and the best quote matches her renewal, £270 inc legal, breakdown with homestart and recovery. Put the details into e-Car - £160 with legal, comparable breakdown and excess.

Brill!

I found this but not sure if it's the same one:

Assuming that is the one I just sent 10 mins sticking in the details and it refused to quote me....

Nothing too exciting, 40+ years old, loads of no claims, Impreza WRX, fairly innocuous postcode.....certainly nothing that has bothered all the other online companies.

So is it one of these "accept low risk only" companies?

Well that's all the more galling.....if I was called Big Bad Dave and played dodgems in Poland I would have understood them not wanting to quote me!

Well I've just had a quote that saved me £200 on the 325i, and they WILL provide cover for a coupe, which is more than Quinn Direct will do.

My only concern is that I've never heard of them and their website doesn't look too slick compared with mainstream companies. Has anyone had to make a claim?

This company was the subject of discussion and a degree of early waryness on a bike forum I use; the main concern was the fact that they are based out of Gib, something to do with FSA coverage.

Since then I haven't picked up any problems from those members who have used them; they are extremely competitive and everyone is more than happy with the quotes. One member who made a claim had good, unproblematic service.

That's the bike side, for what it's worth.

Looking at e-bike

A 2% credit card handling fee will be applied to every credit card transaction.
Pay As You Go premiums are subject to a £5 a month administration charge.
Mid Term Changes to your policy will be subject to a £15 administration charge
....less a cancellation charge of £30.
There is a charge of £25 plus insurance premium tax, included in all premiums, for the breakdown cover

Not a competitive quote for me.

ecar are great. the missus is with them and pays about £300 fully comp. 100 cheaper than the nearest quote. just bought a new car and i am now insured with them. 300 cheaper then nearest quote.
i questioned how cheap they are with a few people, but all the paperwork that came through looks legit.
you have to remember it is completeley internet based (apart from claims) so they save a hell of a lot on man power.

I tried for a quote last night but it was much more expensive than Liverpool Victoria - my present insurers - and cover was not as good.

Cheddar,

Thank you *very much*.

Not only does the e-car quote I've just got match the lowest I'd found so far, it also includes driving other cars *and* breakdown cover.

My broker will be gutted. Cheers!

I looked at this site but couldn't see any contact address, proper company information or financial services information. I'm old enough to remember some of the insurance company collapses of the past - I wonder if this company is safe?

Don't know if this will help allay any fears or shed any light on the situation but:

The eCar instalment plan will be underwritten by either Conister Trust PLC which is arranged and administered on their behalf by Panacea Finance Ltd, or Panacea Finance Ltd directly. Either can be contacted by writing to:

That info Adam refers to the finance agreement to finance the monthly payment scheme rather than the financial regulation of the underlying motor insurer.

From what I can see the company is subject to prudential regulation (ie the financial probity of the company) in Gibraltar but offers policies subject to English Law with membership of the UK Financial Ombudsman scheme for disputes plus ultimately also a member of the UK Financial Services Compensation Scheme should it become insolvent. To me this looks reassuring although I would check out with the organisations concerned that they do have this company as a member.

I was initially concerened re their integrity before insuring the bike though, as per Rhino, I was reassured by some comment on bike forums, e-Car has only been up since April though e-Bike has been around for a couple of years.

Although they weren't cheaper for me, I mentioned them to someone with van insurance due (e-van) his quote was a around a quarter of his renewal.

If you have had problems with this company call Consumer Direct tel: 08454 040 506 (ask them to call you back if you do not like 0845 numbers they will call? you right back) they will take all details? and have the Trading Standards call you within 7-days.

Alternatively go straight to their complaints department and tell them you have taken legal advice and do not accept their position in regards of your cancellation charges .That you believe they are operating in contravention of the Financial Services(Distance Marketing)Regulations 2004. Give them 14 days to refund any monies owed to you or you will be requesting a \"Letter Of Deadlock\" and will be referring the matter to the Financial Ombudsman immediately. This got me back most of my deposit back when I cancelled my policy in after a week .Cancelled within the legal cooling off period and they tried to take the whole deposit off me.

Happen to be a Which ? magazine subscriber and so had access to a legal advisor so this was invaluable in getting back most of my deposit. Good luck.

(Edit: sorry but I've had to delete some of this post as it contained defamatory comments and allegations which we can't allow on a public forum like this.)

I used them for my bike insurance last year as I was moving around every few months and wanted a monthly policy. Tried them this year, and went from £40 a month for my vfr800 motorbike to £160 a month! I took out an annual policy with another company for around £300.
The message here is shop around. I got quoted £670 for a renewal with swift cover car insurance up £170, and direct line quoted me £300.
