Hi All, After a recent thread where I managed to finally rid myself of an exceptionally faulty Jaguar I-Pace I am hoping for any potential advice on a replacement. Budget of about 25k for ideally something approved used.
Key factors are reliability, years 2020+ (as those tend to have reasonable CarPlay compatibility), 40k miles or below, suitable for long drives and occasional family use. I’ve done my research and I have narrowed it down to a 5 series Diesel, or Lexus NX?... Read more
Incase this hasn't already been posted. If you have one of these cars or know someone who has one.

Does the recall include the Picasso variant? Two of my neighbours has them built in that period, and they appear to share a good deal of underpinnings with the other cars mentioned.

Hand signals are undeniably the perfection of clarity. The driver has certainly not deceived any other motorists by forgetting to turn off/on an electronic device!
EVs typically have no gearbox because torque is constant at any RPM.
But, if a gearbox is fitted then less powerful motor can be used. This will draw less current and thus will increase range worth same battery.
Then went still gearboxes are not fitted in EVs?

What arrangement did some of the electric trains from the 1990s and especially early 2000s that sounded like they had some 'gearbox arrangement', where the sound of the motor increased in pitch as the train got off the mark, then paused for a split second (like a gear change), then it started again as if in another 'gear' as it gained speed, then repeated again as it gained more speed.
The opposite always happened as the train slowed to a stop...
After 20 years we are going to have to part with our Honda Civic due to rust.
We are getting older, so we have to keep an eye on insurance costs. We have a limited budget, below £15K for definite, or lower if possible around £12K..... Read more
Both rust - badly at rear. Unless treated promptly, 14 years life is tops..
Rather than resurrecting the old 'Which Boiler' thread I thought I'd start a new one. I've been told a 15+ yr old Ideal Mini C24(Kw) a weepy auto air valve replacing and also the gas control valve is 'not working fully' - and also needs replacement. It is also in 'poor condition'. Cost - £450. Dilemma is repair or replace? It's in a tiny modernish house with one bathroom, three small rads and two larger ones. I am minded to replace, but quotes have been north of the £2k mark!
The C24 is still apparently widely available for only around £800 including a filter. I am happy to pay £800 for the component parts and the time to assemble them into such a brilliant working machine delivered to my door. However, I am not happy to pay a gas fitter more than £100 an hour to come and drain, flush and perform a simple non-emergency like for like exchange, which according to Google should take no longer than 4-6 hrs, e.g.a day's work - or less if experienced and competent. (my benchmark - locum day rates for GPs are c.£6-800). ... Read more
The problem would be how those taxes would then get apportioned and spent on the relevant collection, processing and recycling facilities, etc. My local council can't even get changes to the bin collections right (hardly rocket science), so having a national government-administered system to then direct to unitary authorities, county district councils doesn't sound that appealing either.
Sad to see the countryside littered with stuff....
I often wonder when renewing my insurance if it’s worth paying £100 for the privilidge of protecting my NCD.
Simply to be told on renewal that the cost has gone up because I had an accident.... Read more
Pretty much the same answer as Orb. I've had a couple of at fault claims in the last 10 years including a Roomster that was written off.
While I'd have paid a lot more remaining with the company that paid out - IIRC LV - I got a much cheaper quote from Direct Line; less than I was paying before the write off. ...
Two bits in the news.....
A Government minister was due to meet with Lotus Sunday.....
CVT judder seems to have been sorted with a fluid change, grumbling rear wheel bearing swapped, it’s now time to see if we can get some chilled air out of it.
The switch illuminates, but no rev drop or drop in vent output temperature.
So it’s booked in to go an aircon machine (do they have a specific name?) later in the week. No idea how long it hasn’t worked, so we’ll see.
Question is - do I get a new dryer for it before attempting to regas it? Or if it works after having been regassed, will the A/C circuit have to be split again to change it? Read more
My neighbour has the same car . Re charge last week. Pulled out 225 gms and refill with 450 gms . Checked both cooling fans working and system cooling good .

I saw an X1 for sale on autotrader a couple of days ago, a 2.0 diesel auto X-drive, what should I be looking out for?... Read more
I was looking at the diesel as its almost twice the economy, I will be driving from County Durham to Linconlshire every few weeks later in the year, a round trip of 400 miles. Whilst all wheel drive is nice to have, in my case, its not essential. I have a Skoda that is in need of some front suspension struts and springs as well as the brakes and pads changing, so was considering changing it
