My wife and l like automatic petrol engined cars in a roomy MPV bodystyle, not SUV. Over the yaers, we have got used to Japanese cars with approx 2 litre engines, but to get one now you have to either 'buy old' or 'buy import'. Today we tried this 2016 Zafira. It was quite pleasant but I could hear the gearbox working away to make the best of the small engine's limited torque. I wonder if we would really get on with it? Or am I being very old-fashioned? I think we are likely to buy a car between 5 and 10 years old. Read more

My old Vitara was a 1.4t with an automotive. Theres no way I'd describe it as slow, lethargic. Quite the opposite 235nm of torque it was very nippy indeed. IMO having an autobox actually protected the turbo, from abuse , over revving etc.

And sorry to bang on here but peppy performance is one of the reasons I drive an EV now. But worried about a 1.4t automatic? Not for one second.

2005 - Replaced car battery yesterday. Today started up fine. After driving for half an hour or so. 3 beeps intermittently. Then orange warning light came on (diesel - light usually comes on when starting up, goes off after approx 5 seconds, can then start up).

Any suggestions what needs to be looked at? ... Read more

Do you know the engine type? 2005 models were the last with indirect injection engines. Much less complex than the HDi versions. If it's the latter it should have HDi badging and HDi lettering on the engine's acoustic hood.

Is the light you mention the one for the pre-heat plugs?

I had this predicament re buying a car when I'd already arranged an insurance renewal but it was back in 2015. I just told the insurance company and I got two lots of documents. It did cause a glitch with AskMid re new car until the new renewed policy started - I made sure I carried both certificates with me just in case.

I won't sell a car privately now unless I know the person. Toooo many people trying to defraud you! Get a price from Webuyanycar and Motorway and arrange timing just beforehand? Still worth getting a trade in price just in case but make sure you're not being over quoted but loosing discount from the car you're buying.

Unfortunately the council took away mirrors we had installed opposite our driveway, but I really need something as an alert - when I have cars or worse vans parked either side of my driveway it's a serious hazzard to pull out safely from the driveway (alongside short children who may shoot across at that very moment).

I would have loved a non wired solution to the issue, cones or such like, but I think I've run out of options. Most cameras I see are for reversing, can anyone recommend any for pulling out (or even both, when I'm edging the car back in!?)... Read more

"Ali express " sell such a system, not particularly cheap and looks quite involved to install.

I had the same car and same issue. It was the exhaust gas recirculation valve that was blocked on mine. Basically a diesel was the wrong car for me because of the type of driving and mileage I was undertaking. I’ve moved to petrol now.

Hi

I'm looking for a new car and the Combo Life ticks all the boxes except for one thing.... The front seats only recline part way (maybe around 45 degree angle at the lowest?). We often go away for short breaks in the car and sleep in the front, with the seats fully reclined. So without that we'd have to rule this model out.... Read more

I've got a couple of photos showing the limited recline of the front seats, so thought I would share them here... Both show the driver's seat in maximum recline position. Would be so great if there was a restrictor that could be removed, or some other way to allow for full recline. Appreciate from the above comments that it is unlikely, but you never know!

You could also escalate the issue with the local parking authority or law enforcement, as parking over a dropped kerb is usually a violation.
