Recently my brakes started behaving strange. If I braked hard the car seem to go ok but it was obviouly dragging on the brakes because the fuel consumption started falling on the computer read out, but once home and left overnight the car drove fine the next day with consumption rising again, I thought it might be my brakes calipers sticking on, so I replaced all 4 calipers, and its been fine for about two weeks, then I braked hard again the other day and the same thing started happening with the consumption falling. are there any reasons that this maybe happening aprt fri sticky brake calipers? I thought (and said) that initially, but, as above, I now think that the OP is assuming brake involvement because he gets a sudden rise in fuel consumption, which I assume is continuously displayed, after firmly applying the brakes.

If its closely coincident in time this seems a reasonable interpretation....

Only if there is somewhere for them to go after passing through the body.

It only takes a number of milliamps passing through the body to kill, never mind if it's got somewher to go after....

It sounds like your car's drain might be blocked. When the heater or AC is on, water can build up and leak into the footwell if the drain is clogged. You might need to clean the drain or get a mechanic to check it.

Can't see how turning on heater or AC has any effect on water built up due to a blocked drain. Unless the fan sucks strongly enough to suck standing water up into the intake, which seems unlikely

Seen a build up around this joint, I’ve cleaned it up best I can and will check it next weekend. Anyone kindly tell me what that part is for?

I’m not well educated on the part names and what it all does.

No, I did check hoses around that area, particularly the one that sits in the clip attached to that intake. I lifted it out and looked under it for signs of cracking or actual splits ect.

Thanks for the reply

Hello All,

I've recently noticed audible 'ticking' noise coming from an engine compartment. It seems to be synchronised to engine revs, e.g.: when pulling off ticking frequency proportionally increases.... Read more

I wouldn’t bother with insurance. If the car is over 5 years old , they’ll probably write it off .

Write off a 5-year-old car for £100 damage ? Come on, I know tings are bad, but not that bad !

Agree that it isn't worth involving insurers though.

Best way you’ve blown a fuse . Worst way, the engine ecu has been fried . Take a look at the fuses behind the glove box.

Hi, I bought a ten year old VW Transporter Shuttle with 400k miles on from an independent dealer which being a VW was not cheap, on the day of collection it was working ok with no signs of any issues. On the journey back it worked ok but the following day it started to have issues and the engine lost power and started to make some clearly unsettling noises. After doing less than 300 miles in it, my local garage are saying the engine has had it. I did buy from a dealer and their warranty which is through another party have said it's wear and tear so won't cover it, the garage are digging their heals in basically saying the same thing as it showed not signs of issue and it was working at 'point of collection', do I have a right to reject? How much did you pay for this? Can’t see any dealers giving a warranty on a vehicle with 400k on it .

I'm surprised anyone would pay out for one, even if it was the only one left .....
