I'm really not convinced that the government doesn't want this situation to continue . They do nothing to get things moving while peoples lives suffer; but it keeps a few hundred thousand cars off the roads .
Similar to allowing Mr Kahn to extend the ULEZ zone despite many folk complaining its allowed to go ahead. This encompassing millions of people that can neither afford a newer ULEZ compliant car or a EV or charge an EV at their home
.
Start by hitting the head of the DVLA's wage packet and see things start to improve !
That will never happen as they all go to the same parties .Our government are a rich group who only think of themselves Read more
According to a Bayes study on mortality rate reductions over time, the slowdown among women after 2010 has been especially severe, raising concerns about predictions of future population growth, the feasibility of pension plans, and inequalities in the UK.

I've kept this thread alive for longer than usual as for the most part it's stayed civil and in the past the Mods have been accused of closing down discussion early. However I really think we've extracted all we are going to do so from this thread and there have been several requests to close it now - and I agree with them.
Slight whine from turbo low down on acceleration around 2000-2500 RPM. Do I need to replace it, mileage from new 73456 Read more
Only "turbo" issue we have had was on a Golf TDi. A vacuum pipe was poorly routed and on very hot days it kinked and the turbo stopped blowing. Bit of a b***** when you had a 1ton + trailer on the back.
Obviously a common issue, dealer diagnosed it in seconds.

Following new head gasket I have a thin clear tube with a black rubber 90° tip going to a small black valve with thin black pipes behind the intake. I cannot find where it pushes on. Any ideas? I know it must go to the intake to operate the valve but where? Read more
Worked on loads of these , but don’t recall seeing any clear plastic pipe in the engine bay . All the vacuum and breather pipes are black rubber and plastic. I suspect it’s been replaced by a non Vauxhall part . I would think it’s part of the evap control system that takes excess fuel vapour from the tank to the inlet manifold.
Back in Edinburgh for a few weeks. Wandering through a Halfords, noticed some of these. Single hose and gauge, latter in either digital or analogue, with a bit of an "expert system" diagnostic thing apparently going on with the more expensive of the digitals.
They apparently had two .types of refrigerant refill cylinders available, but there werent any on the shelf.... Read more
Liquefaction pressure of CO2 at room temperature is about 850 PSI, I believe.
CO2 powered airguns are therefore lower powered than those powered by springs/gas rams or diver's bottles.
My car touched the rearview mirror of the white car on the left , but the other white car driver removed the cover of the right rearview mirror, claiming that I damaged it, but judging from the video (15th-40th seconds), after touching it, his rearview mirror was not broken. The white cover is clearly still there. Later, when he got out of the car to check his car with me, I found that his left rearview mirror also had no cover. I felt that his right rearview mirror was originally broken with cover removable, and then he used this opportunity to ask me to replace it with a new one. At present, he wrote down my license plate number and said it was private, but I think that although I touched his right rearview mirror, no actual damage was materialized, because his right rearview mirror was originally broken. He said to send me invoice to replace his right rear car mirror. Do I need to pay or what should i do please?
In fairness, that particular tunnel is extremely narrow.
Since when hasn`t there been an accident in that Tunnel, you still get i****s trying to get through there asap, and being narrow lanes they misjudge the bends which imo are treacherous for some drivers anyway...

Knowing that E10 petrol has an adverse effect on fuel consumption and in my case performance is there a case for swapping to E5 petrol ? Read more
I've honestly noticed no difference between E5 and E10 in any respect.
Ditto with my 16yo Mazda3 1.6 petrol. But then the difference between E5 standard and E5 super unleaded was not much noticeable (about 2-3mpg tops) either....
Elon Musk once called the hydrogen car principle the “Fool Cell”.
Is he now planning to manufacture a Tesla hydrogen car from 2024 ?... Read more
It's called green hydrogen because presumably it comes from a non carbon releasing source. Normally hydrogen is produced by splitting methane which releases CO2.
Sure he hasn't. He and the Treasury officials that prepared the statement hoped no-one would bother reading the hefty tome in its entirety or do a word search (if an electronic copy was available).
Fortunately, a FEW good journalists still exist. Thanks Liam (Halligan). Read more
That's because our politicians (of all hues) and officials only like giving subsidies that the well off can make use of.
All the government grants for EVs, so-called 'green' home heating systems and PV panels neve cover anywhere near the full cost to change, and only apply to new products (e.g. cars), when there still is a huge disparity in the purchase cost of second hand EVs, whereby potential buyers couldn't / cannot get grants for home EVs chargers, assuming they had the capacity or space to have one installed at all, which most less well of people don't (live in a flat, etc)....
?? "It's concerning to see such long delays for medical-related driving licenses. ?? Many drivers rely on timely renewals for work and daily life.
