Hi all!

After hours (there's so much on these carbs) reading about the multitude of issues + remedies regarding the 2e2 I figured I'd post my issues with the hope someone might be able to point me in the right direction

So it's an Audi 80 b2 1.8 with the Pierburg 2e2. Bought the car in October and all in all it seems like a good un.

So... the issues. Seller told me that sometimes it cheats or over-runs on ignition off. That turned out to be a little optimistic as it over-runs quite often. Also runs super lumpy (as if its not firing all cylinders) for the first 20/30 seconds on a cold morning (0 / ~5).

Anyways I took it all apart and found that the flange which attaches the Carn to the inlet manifold was completely split in half. Carb was just sitting on top of the manifold. So replaced that and everything seemed in good order. Auto-choke comes on at 2000rpm for first 30secs to a few mins depending on the outside temp then settles to around 750/800rpm which seems right?

Since I fixed the flange the mixture smells super rich though, exhaust is pretty white which maybe because of the cold here in Norway (no sweet smell, compression all works out, not using any coolant) but it seems odd that it doesn't burn off the condensation and settle after a drive.

Also the engine still over-runs. Sometimes it doesn't at all, then every 3rd or 4th drive it'll over-run for 2 or 3 seconds.
Same with the running lumpy for first min or so on very cold mornings.

I've changed the vacuum lines, bought some seafoam and carb cleaner to clean the carb and run through the valves.

Anyone have any smart ideas? Read more

I found a 1600 Lada fitted with a Weber in an Edinburgh scrappy when I was looking for a starting-handle-compatible radiator for my 1200 Mk1. Should have bought it, but was too stingy and short sighted.

OP, running on could indicate a need for a decoke. I did a distilled water decoke on my Skywing (plant sprayer and 2 liters of deionised) and it stopped doing it, though my trigger finger got pretty sore....

This is will push used car prices up, especially for hybrids, as owners of diesel cars within M25 will look to dump their cars in favour of hybrids or petrol.

My car has adaptive cruise, I’m looking at a ( new ) car which has radar cruise, what’s the difference in these systems, or are they the same by another name? Read more

We had one like that today. It must have followed us for 25 miles. We were switching lanes and trying to maintain 70 mph, they were stuck in the middle lane doing whatever speed the car in front was doing. When we pulled over and started to slow for our exit they accelerated hard past us then slowed down for the car in front. Why they couldn't have overtaken like we did I do not know.

I was thinking for a long time to buy a Qashqai as a family car, but having read little bit on the Internet, Q's get a really bad rep...

Here's the precedents: it has to be a SUV, I'm 6ft6 and 120kg with wide shoulders, we're in zone 2 in London and won't be doing many miles a year, maybe 1000 or so, if that. I don't mind it being dull, I just need to be comfy in it. It will definitely be a second hand, auto gear box, preferably petrol with Euro 6 (because ulez). Not too strict on budget, I'd be looning for up to 14k, but if it's worth it I might stretch to 17k or so.... Read more

Might be worth looking at a Honda CR-V. The 2 litre petrol auto in the price range you mention will be a standard torque converter, and is likely to give you trouble-free service. You could probably get a Mk4 facelift at that price.

I have just googled my recently trade-in Seat Toledo, not least because I'm always interested in the margin that gets added.

I'm impressed to see that it has already moved a from a Seat/Skoda main dealer in Newport (s. Wales) to an independent trader in London. They have done some nice preparation on it (refurbed the wheels and tidied up some heavily blemished paintwork).... Read more

2 different dealers at different times have told me the same thing - unless they have some form of evidence to prove the certification of the product & the competence of the fitting they will remove them.

Hi Tom,
I had two company CRV’s. When the original summer Continental tyres wore out we had Goodyear Wranglers fitted. Never got stuck off-roading, farm and forestry tracks summer / winter rain or snow. Far better vehicle than given credit for.

"Bungee strap to hold it in 5th gear."

Early Maxis had a cable gearchange which wasn't very good. It was often a bit of luck changing gear. It was quite soon changed to using rods which improved things.

I'm really not convinced that the government doesn't want this situation to continue . They do nothing to get things moving while peoples lives suffer; but it keeps a few hundred thousand cars off the roads .
Similar to allowing Mr Kahn to extend the ULEZ zone despite many folk complaining its allowed to go ahead. This encompassing millions of people that can neither afford a newer ULEZ compliant car or a EV or charge an EV at their home

I've kept this thread alive for longer than usual as for the most part it's stayed civil and in the past the Mods have been accused of closing down discussion early. However I really think we've extracted all we are going to do so from this thread and there have been several requests to close it now - and I agree with them.
