Battery keeps draining. I’ve ensured all poss culprits like lights, windscreen wipers, radio etc haven’t been left on.
The only thing I’ve noticed is one of the climate control buttons (the fresh air one I think) has a green indicator light on above it. Could this be draining the battery? I can’t see how to turn this light off. The AC is set to OFF so I don’t understand why there’s a light on. It’s a 2010 Honda Jazz Auto/iShift model Read more
If it's the original battery it could well be time-expired anyway (10 years) and it is the middle of 'winter' too.
hi all

The wording on the insurance certificate (that's the document that counts for criminal purposes) which is fairly standard on most UK policies is "Provided that the person driving holds a licence to drive the vehicle or has held and is not disqualified from holding such a licence". There are slight variations and it is not compulsory for insurers to use this wording, but most do.
The words in inverted commas mean what they say. The police seem unaware of this. They are wrong. The solicitors quoted in the link above, IBB solicitors, got the case dropped, no doubt because they pointed out that their client had held a licence and was not disqualified. I represented a client in court, a Romanian who was driving in the UK after 6 months without having obtained a UK licence. At court, the CPS dropped the no insurance allegation for the above reason....

Could the mechanic had, erm, greasy hands when they handled the new belt, perhaps contaminating it?
I once had an alternator re-built that suffered the same, caused all sorts of problems. When I stripped it you could actually see greasy fingerprints inside. The slip rings needed a good clean to get it functioning correctly.
HJ is indeed still with us.

Been following him since the mid 90s when he told us to drive carefully over road humps to save damage to the caralytic converter. Imagine it like having a tea pot in the exhaust.
And how right he was about DPFs !

Due to retirement I am selling my Golf TDI it was first registered July 2008 and is almost 12 yrs old. I have personally owned it for almost 10 yrs it has a full service history and 11 months MOT the mileage is 77k. Honest John have valued the car at £2400 and We buy any car.com around £2000 although they have yet to see the car.... Read more
Such a common problem with the golf.
Have you had problems with the door window at any stage, or had the door cards off for any repairs? The inner panel when removed has stick on rubber seal to stop ingress of water running into the car. Take panelling off and reseal with a good silicone mastic to the lower half....
And so after quite a long wait our Puma has arrived, delivered by the dealer in the evening to help make up for the delivery delay. The delay wasn’t their fault so they’ve been pretty good about it. In the flesh it looks lovely and while only a few cm’s longer, wider and of course taller than the Fiesta on which it’s based it feels much bigger inside and out. We went for the Titanium model, this is supposed to be the comfortable version and first impressions are that it is, massage seats are standard but haven’t tried these yet, quite a neat feature on a cheapish car though.
One of the big things with the Puma is the mild hybrid engine and it’s going to be really interesting to see how, or if this really does help economy. I was slightly dubious about getting the 125bhp engine (the 155 version not being available on the 1st edition model) but again, early impressions are that it seems to pull pretty well and is more flexible than expected, previous experience of other makes of small turbo petrols is that they have too much lag. The electric motor on the Puma is designed to boost low down torque.
This car will be covering a fair variety of driving conditions and we’re expecting it to cover c20k miles a year so I’ll let you know how the economy goes.
I know there was a thread here recently questioning the point of hybrids, this mild version might be the answer. Read more
Thanks Primus and will do, I’ve hardly driven it yet, my wife has been using it so far and seems to be liking it, she has a 50 mile each way commute and thinks it’s very comfy. I have a decent 200 mile round trip tomorrow so should have a better idea of what it’s really like then.
What...only £29,000...is this utter madness...that Mustang GT 5.0 Litre job is becoming more of an option as each day goes by.
It looks like emissions may be driven down, at a serious cost to the Customer.

The original electric Fiat 500, the 500e was sold in California from 2013 to 2019. It had a 22.5 kW battery, and level 2 charging. The MSRP was approximately $36000 however the vehicle was primarily leased. Some dealerships offering $50 a month payments. Fiat Chrysler wanted a stiff $21000 residual at the end of the lease, and very few drivers kept their cars. Yet, when these vehicles went to auction, they sold for approximately $5000. This is how I acquired mine.
In the US, Fiats (Fix It Again, Tony) are considered crap. But because so many components were manufactured by Bosch (motor, transmission, inverter, charger, battery, cooling system, A/C, HVAC, etc), the reliability was fairly good. In the two years that I owned it, putting miles 30,000 to 50,000 on it, I did not need to do any repairs. Only installing tires before I sold it. It was a fantastic car. Very sporty, and comfortable for highway driving.
So why did I sell it? 22.5KW battery and level 2 charging. As an around town car, this was not a problem, but for any trips a good distance outside of the city, it was not usable. Mine you, the vehicle held its value quite well, I lost only $800 in my buying price and selling price.
So now that the electric 500 has a 40kW battery and fast charging, this will be one great car. That is if the same high quality components are installed again. However, with the Fiat CEO lamenting the $14000 lost with each sale of a 500e between 2013 and 2019, I don't think they will have Bosch as a supplier anymore.
Wishing them luck, and waiting 3 years for the off-lease vehicles to come back to auction.
Yet another dumb idea. It would be FAR, FAR better for the land set aside for growing the crops that go into making the ethonol to be used to grow acutal food that we can eat, thus reducing the need to import as much from overseas, redcuing the amount of fuel used in that and more than offsetting the extra crude oil we would need to fill that 5% biofuel.
Add to that the benefits to vehicles of having less ethanol etc in the fuel. Read more

I'd like the car manufacturers to explain why EVs cost so much more than ICE equivalents - even when they've been hugely increasing the prices of their ICE cars regularly in recent times (e.g. almost £25k for an entry level Golf).
Abolishing VAT on EVs will just swell car manufacturer's profits further as prices will continue to be huge and still regularly increase, under the misleading and incorrect defence that it will somehow save the planet - whilst public services go without that money.
I'm all for stopping the £3500 EV grant too that every tax-payer is paying towards at the moment even if they don't drive - I do, but I still can't afford an EV so no good to me either!
The SMMT should be investigated for corruption too.
