Use a slightly updated chassis, from the last generation Mk7 Golf ,add a bit of new tech and bung the price up and hope we won’t notice ! Read more

What a massive price increase, what possible justification is there for such a rise. New cars are getting unaffordable for the masses. Read more

Was thinking of replacing my 10 year old mk.2 Jazz with the new hybrid and was pleased with the test drive. I've always carried a space saver tyre / wheel, (essential on our roads I think where an inflation kit won't fix a sidewall puncture say) but there's no longer any space for one in the new model. I won't be buying.

At the weekend I test drove a honda CRV diesel on a 16 plate low mileage, it was low on fuel with the light on with 2 mile on the trip computer so we went to get diesel but before we could put fuel in the limp home mode symbol came on but I didn't know what it was so when I drive away I quickly found out and had no power so we went back the the carstore had a chat and walked away but I have now had a phone call saying on there diagnostic equipment it said low fuel pressure and that they have put a new battery on aswell ,when I asked why the new battery the sales guy wasn't to sure but he will see if he can get a report explaining things a little better. What are your thoughts , would thus happen like this etc etc Read more

I have walked away from that car and have serious doubts I'll go back there again ,as has been pointed out they can't even present the car properly for sale.which is odd for what I believe is a large network ( evans halshaw \ carstore ). The end result was that the limp home mode was due to low fuel pressure and they also put on a new battery but not sure why .

Does anyone have any experience of dealing with a vehicle that is 'damaged beyond repair' according to the insurance company, but could be repaired privately at your own cost?

I'm looking for pros/cons to going down the write-off route and buying back vs. just not going through insurance?... Read more

At the moment we are tempted to just pull it out and get it repaired and hope there isn't any other damage that can't be seen visibly. We are lucky in that my partner's dad is a retired VW specialist mechanic - he lives a long way away but the cost of recovery will probably still make it worth it.

Your choice seems to be clear - the cost of 'DiY' repair (assuming no other damage) is much less than market replacement value, so do not claim, get the repair done with s/h parts and save the Excess which you would have had to pay on a claim. But make sure of a thorough job, skimping may be false economy.

Has anyone used Screwfix No Nonsense Wash & Wax? I usually use Autoglym products, but this is a lot cheaper and seems to have a lot of good reviews. Thanks. Read more

Find a good car detailing website, there are a few around such as The Polishing Booth, ChemicalGuys(UK), Clean Your Car etc. You'll find lots of excellent products and they all do mail order.

Myself I never use Autoglym, horrid stuff that leaves tiny white particles on the paintwork such that you always haveto wipe over with Isop Alcohol (yes, you do if you look very closely!)....
