I bought a 2016 Kia Sportage last year (May 2019) and subsequently found out the seller hadn't listed the car as CAT S, nothing was listed on the V5.

I recently fancied a change of car, spotted my next car (2010 Jag XJL) on the dealers website and offered it as a part ex on the new car, the valuation came back as the same price of the car I was interested in.... Read more

The dealer is most certainly better equipped to find out if the condition of the car and if it has been scrapped and the category it was given, they have failed to check the vehicle properly which is not your fault, the onus is on them to do their job and not on you to offer instruction on how they should do it. All 2nd hand cars are bought as seen and this is accepted in the courts.

I would tell them to go swivel, and tell them if they continue to bother you then you will make a complaint of harassment with the police, and that you will see them in court....

it wasn't so much the steel as the paint preparation where costs were cut between around 1997 and around 2003. That is why Mercedes-Benz from this period rust so badly.

You may well be right about the mirror, Google does indicate it is possible to replace just the sensor. Hope they have obtained the correct colour if replacing the entire mirror!

If a 1994 306 is any comparison, the colour-coded mirror casing is (fairly) easily exchanged - it's the usual matter of prising apart plastic parts without damaging the lugs which hold them together.

A lot of the ute sales are style. They are buying crew cab luxury utes at A$50,000 each. Often it is used by the wife to take the kids to school. You don't see those type of utes on farms or mine sites. The tradesman who gets a work ute goes for a 4X2 cheapo with a tray back or a custom back. There is no where near the profit margin on the basic 4X2 compared to the crew cab 4X4. You don't see any Ranger 4X2. Only Hilux and Triton.

It is ironic that the Australian car buyer stopped buying big heavy gas guzzling Falcons and Commodores and switched to big heavy gas guzzling 4X4 utes and SUVs. I don't see the attraction myself. I would buy another Falcon station wagon tomorrow if they still sold them new. They don't so I am hanging on to my 2003 wagon as long as I can....

We are a family of 4, soon to become 5 currently driving a golf mk7 so need a bigger car. Have looked at the Touran but only engine in our price range is the 1.2 Petrol , partner doesn’t do enough miles for a diesel. Am worried about engine size for the size of the car, the golf has 12 more ps than it. Will mostly be used tooting round town with the odd Holiday motorway run.

Does anyone have any experience with this engine

Or if anyone wants to recommend an alternative feel free. Partner is not keen on having a “big car”

Thanks Read more

A quick look around in your area reveals few petrol Tourane available plus I think that while 1.2 TSI is a good engine I fear it’ll be overwhelmed by the weight of the car plus 5 passengers. I’d bring diesel into the search. The greater torque of the Diesel engine suits the car better and offers more relaxed driving and better economy.

Post 2014 cars which weren’t affected by the emissions recall don’t seem to suffer EGR or DPF issues the same as earlier cars but it is still possible. I’d have the 1.6 diesel and just make sure it gets a regular run of 20-30 miles to keep it sweet.

Another option that’s in plentiful supply nearby is the Vauxhall Zafira 1.4 turbo. Loads of room and decent power.
