Galant

Does anybody know if there would be any dealers out there who would do a straight swap on s car?? I own a Mitsubishi Galant 2.5V6 24v Auto Estate. I need something more fuel friendly! I have no money to buy another car. I do a 50 mile round trip to work and back daily in a car that does an average of 28mpg!!
It's taxed till July and mot'd till end July.
I've tried all the car swapping websites and gumtree, but had no interest!!
Any help appreciated.
Thanks. Read more

Doing a swap at a dealer will mean getting a lower value/inferior car - the dealer is not a charity, after all. And gas guzzlers like your V6 Galant are well out of favour compared to more economical cars. Best bet is to try and sell privately (or auction as suggested) and then buy something quick.

Can anyone recommend a car that is easier to get in out of than my small volvo which has got to low for me to easily get out and in . i fancied a renault scenic 1.4 but have been told they have quiet a few problems in my price bracket about £1000 Read more

They are not that popular with the buying public (the image isn't right for young people) so they tend to be very cheap. £1K should get you a 01/02 reg with good service history and no more than 60k on the private market depending where you live. They seem to be about 25% cheaper than Corsas/Fiesta round here.

Like the sinister, seething swarm of clacking bureaucrats who have made London such an obstacle course for the unwary, the crooked builders and smirking small-time retail tycoons who run piddling small towns have jostled to squeeze a quart into a pint pot and cover the narrow streets of their cities with incomprehensible paint and irritating signs and arrows. In the case of Bath, these frightful men and women, worthy successors to the syphilitic, nose-dripping, smelly-trousered aldermen of a couple of centuries ago, and the vacant uprooted peasants who man their Mickey Mouse camera systems, have made their jerry-built Georgian Butlin's-for-toffs noticeably traffic-free.

It isn't really the thirty quid I mind, or the fact that the bus lane, in which of course none of the Cathedral City's thirty or so town buses is to be seen, must have been the obvious place to be (or I wouldn't have been there). What I mind is the singularly unflattering portrait of my car, stretched and flattened to resemble a huge grinning silver cowpat.

This is fashion airbrushing in reverse. I will email Charlize Theron and Jordan to ask if they can recommend a decent Hollywood (or better still Philadelphia) vanity lawyer. A girl has her pride. Read more

Bath is the nearest thing I have to a home town. I was raised there to nearly eight years old during the second world war, and lived there again in the mid-fifties. My parents left for Dunfermline while I was away at university and off in London with the raggle taggle gipsies oh, then lived nearby in Batheaston in the mid-sixties.

My mother who wasn't entirely English loved the place, my father who came from Bristol despised it. The term 'jerry built' comes straight from him. Mind you, the colonial and imperial fortunes that led to the development of Bath, acquired in India, Africa and the Caribbean mainly and in the most spectacular cases depending heavily on the 'triangular' - i.e. slave and sugar - trade, must have come quite often partly from Bristol which was a big slaving centre. My father wasn't quite so keen on discussing that.

Both my parents are buried there and I have a deep affection for the place anyway. But that doesn't make me blind to its faults. It's provincial, poncy and nearly as smug as Bristol, the pubs are rubbish and then there's the scrofulous, whining, grasping, moronic, aftershave-wearing council.

Is it possible for a main dealer to unregister a brand new car with the DVLA after its been registered to someone?

The reason i ask is that i have been into the Citreon main dealers today to ask about a 1.6 petrol VTR+NAV C5.
After discussing my requirements he pointed to a C5 in the car park and told me this sorry tale.He said that they had ordered a diesel C5 for a customer and it was registered to him. When it arrived they realised it was a petrol 1.6 model. They then had to sell him an alternative car and are now in the process of deregistering the car so that it can be sold as one owner. They have said that if they cannot get it deregistered then it will be classed as a prereg model.

Now the list price for a brand new factory car i am looking at is £21000 with paint. They will only drop to £20500.A popular car magazine says that the target price is £19500(with paint) so theres still some room for coming down on price.

Now assuming that the car they have in stock remains preregistered then whats a good price to offer assuming that it is a 59 plate(with 1 mile on the clock) compared to a March delivery and a 10 plate.

I would have thought at least £500 off the target price of £19500.So £18995 would be ok with me.
Do you think that this is a fair price or should i try harder?
I know i can get it cheaper online but my wife wants to stick with our local main dealer even though his prices seem high to me.
Any advice would be most appreciated.

...I can remember it being done too, but I thought DVLA had stopped the ability to unregister now to stop sales figures being manipulated....

Don't think they were too keen when we asked them to do it.

The garage - a Renault dealer - was privately owned and I think we had the reputation, at least with the local licensing office, of being dead straight.

The car was still unsaleable and untransferable to another dealer for several weeks, so I can understand the dealers where cashflow and turnover is king wanting to sell the car as a pre-reg.

Hello all.
Considering trading in my (09)V50 and pretty much redundant(07) MX5 for a Forester Diesel probably lowest or mid spec one.
What are these realistically selling for new?
What are real life Mpg figures like for the Forester Boxer Diesel? I have seen the quoted figures are these realistic? Obviously a bit more body roll than the V50 or MX5 but on the demo I drove i found the brakes needed a right good push. Is this normal.
Does a dog crate for a springer/lab x (medium dog crate) fit in the boot.
Servicing costs?
I do about 25000m a year about 14000 of those for work going round farms. Private miles include rally marshalling so also on forets roads.
Grateful for any sensible advice.
Thanks Read more

I would drive the Diesel Forester for at least 45 mins, the newer models ride well but you need to be satisfied that the motor and gear ratios are to your liking. The dealers will ask the earth and the sales are very few so private may be your only route. The prices will be high, my advice buy a 2.5 l auto Forester 2005 55 reg and enjoy the experience. The money you save will be very nice for other purchases.
I bought a petrol Outback auto 12 months ago for 60% of the new price - I couldn't take to the gearing of the diesel nor would I want to loose the 1st 2 yrs depreciation.

Take your time its a buyers market where motoring is seen to be an offence by whoever 'governs' the Uk - petrol will be £6.00 per gallon in a years time or less.

>> Main question is real life running costs versus quoted figures.

Hi all.

My car is going for MOT on monday. All is fine with the car and should pass, however I have one concern.
The rear wiper has never worked since I got the car last August. I have changed the motor in the boot and the relay on the fuse panel and it still dosen't work. I was hoping to get some blanking grommits to blank it off however they have note arrived in time after being ordered from a well known site. Please can someone advise if it will fail an MOT with the rear wiper inoperational. The wiper blade on the wiper itself is fine.
I work on the premise that if its there it should "work". Is this the same for the MOT?

Hi i bought this vehicle a week ago and luckily took out an extended warranty. it was fine until about the 3rd day when the orange engine malfunction light came on. i rang my aa warranty people and they told me nearest garage. took it there thurs, did the diagnostic and garage say its a problem with the air pipe-apparently it has a hole in it. they rang nissan and are waiting to hear back from them as to what part is needed before they can check with AA if repair is authorised.

just wondered if this was an easy problem to fix? also will the fact the air pipe has a hole in it be affecting the fuel efficiency and also how the engine runs? as is quite juddery in 2nd gear but all other gears are fine but fuel efficiency seems to be quite low. just from reading other posts am worried its going to be case of now the Malfunction light has come one its going to keep coming on regardless of whether problems are fixed are not. heard a lot about the oxygen sensors on these not working-is this linked to the air pipe?

also as car still runs fine is nothing to do with the timing chain is it? as dreading if it is!!

any advice much appreciated cheers Read more

Depends on your car - certain cars are very sensitive to OE bulbs being fitted, a pattern bulb can upset CANbus systems and cause false warnngs on failure indicators. BMW bikes need BMW bulbs - not a dealer conclusion but hard-bitten owner/users on user forums.
