I have to open the passenger door from the inside and it is driving me insane. The keyfob doesn't work so I have to use the key from the drivers side which unlocks all of the doors except for the passenger front door.

Can anyone suggest anything please.

Many thanks

Hi Ian,

I had the exact same problem with my Xsara, the problem was a broken wire just as it enters the multi plug on the door, just pull back the rubber sheathing to expose the wires going in to connector to see if you have the same problem, could also be a bad connection on the plug it's self, these are a push and screw type connector.

Hope this helps

Steve.

Has anyone experience of fitting a parking sensor to a Nissan Note? I like the look of the Meta SR2 Targa, but this fits behind the number plate and thus poses a particular problem for the Note, where the plate is glued rather than screwed or bolted to the body. Perhaps someone can recommend another model? Read more

I used parking-sensor.co.uk/ for sensors fitted to my Accord and have used them again for my wife?s Note. Excellent product and expertly fitted. They are bumper fitted and work fine in just about all situations.

Had a look at the linkage, it was as dry as a bone, gave it a good lubing and we now have wipers, they just won't work intermittently, whick I can live with!

Agree it would be a doddle to change the motor, I thought it might be the old 405 blocked drain problem, but it was dry!

Might be worth getting one just in case though!

Can of Groom from Halfords, damp cloth and a little elbow grease tinyurl.com/yduqtbw

When using the damp cloth work "dampness" out to a seam in the seat upholstery otherwise you will just move the tidemark.

Hi I have a 2001 2.0l TDDI Mondeo. About 3 months ago it stalled and would not start up again, eventually when I got it started it would only rev to 2000rpm then smoke like hell and it then cut out and would not start again. I thought maybe I had just ran it out of fuel so I filled it with fuel and it started but still running rough and would not rev. I changed the fuel filter, it took a bit to start but it ran like new until a couple of days ago when it started playing up again even when full of fuel. It starts first time and runs ok when cold but as soon as it gets warm it won?t rev just smokes and dies. I took it to my local garage the mechanics looked through it and couldn?t find the cause to the problem. They plugged it up to a computer and came up with no fault codes. The only thing they could come up with was maybe a problem with the injector codes. Looking in to this problem it seems like it is just the TDCI?s that suffer from this problem or am I wrong? If it is the injector codes I have heard that it can happen again soon after it is sorted. It is an old car now everything is perfect apart from the fuelling is it worth it?
Any help would be fantastic thank you.

Can you help me?

My Focus has recently started making a knocking sound as I turn the wheel. It looks to me (and sounds) like the coil spring turning around bit by bit as the wheels moves.

Its on the drivers side (car also pulls to this side slightly when driving)

Is this common?
Is it dangerous?
What do I need to do to fix it?

Cheers,

You MAY be able to see it by just looking up into the wheel housing. Ideally jack up and take a look, it may or may not be obvious depending on how much you know about cars. Again, hard to say whether its safe or not, depending where its broken (IF it is a broken spring). If in doubt then get a local independent to take a peek at it, should only take a few mins and if its broken give then the job. Its not difficult, get both sides done.

I've just had my car serviced and just checked the oil and doesn't seme to be any there! The dipstick is dry.

Had the car serviced Tuesday and had no problems. No watning lights either.

Car is parked on a slight incline but not very much and have seen the oil previously before it was serviced?

Any ideas?

Had been out in car but checked one hour after returning.

Thanks.

My sons Polo has developed a crack in the windscreen (probably due to the cold weather)
It starts at the bottom edge in the centre. It moves up about 50 mm and then curves towards the passenger side about 80mm. Although it,s within the "swept area" it doesn,t impede the driver,s view nor is it distracting. Will it pass the MOT ?
Thanks in anticipation. Read more

Your insurance company will pay for the repair anyway to save them having to fit
a screen. I tried this recently but the crack was growing every time I drove
it and had to have a new screen

Only Comp Ins will repair a crack for free (or £10), TPF&T you are paying your own bill.

Hi, I'm a forum virgin, please be gentle. We have had our pug 306 for 4 years and it has been one of the best and most reliable cars I have ever owned although cold start problems began about 2 years ago but replacing the glow plugs when this starts seems to fix the problem (don't know why they go wrong every year though?) Last Jan I began to notice the steering had become very heavy and when turning on half to full lock there was a terrible noise it sounded like the pressure relief valve in the steering pump, trying desperately to get home eventually it dumped its fluid and that was that £190 later I had a new pump and was back to normal, the car wasn't used regularly after that but 8 months later when I borrowed it from my wife I noticed the same symptoms I took it back to the garage and once there it proceeded to dump the rest of the fluid, they replaced the pump FOC and the labour but not 2 days later the symptoms are back when turning the wheel it's very hard unless you apply some rev's the more rev's the easier it is but it sounds like the pressure relief valve is kicking in almost as soon as you touch the steering. Please help, the car is old but the engine sounds great and runs lovely I would love to keep this car going. Thanks sorry to ramble. Read more

Should a garage pick up on a known fault, even if it's not the service schedule?

Had the CC3 - 2litre diesel - serviced early last week by the supplying dealer and all seemed well - at first.

But on my first motorway run I detected a distinct lack of grunt, not misfiring or anything like that, more as if I was permanently going uphill or battling a stiff head wind.

Decided to have a quick look under the bonnet, more in hope than expectation.

Near to the front of the car, there are two large pipes, about the size of a forearm.

A hoseclip holding one of these was clearly loose, and there was what seemed to be a mixture of diesel and oil on the nearby engine bits and radiator cowl.

Tightened the hoseclip thanks to the lend of a screwdriver from a passing motorist, and the car is back to rude health - I'd forgotten how well it went.

At this point I would like to thank Backroomer Craig pd130, who has posted about this a few times.

Got home and got out my 7mm Snap-on socket, wobble end, and a selection of extensions to tighten the six other clips I could see in various hard-to-get-at places at the front of the car.

They all nipped up a turn or two without much effort.

The car was only serviced by a Ford dealer six days ago.

I don't know if they would have undone the clip that was loose during the service.

If they did and they left it loose, that's a poor effort.

But as these clips are known to give bother, you'd think they would check they were tight anyway.

Is there any point in having a little moan at the garage?

I just hope they don't apply the same sloppy standards to wheelnuts.

I use Wynn's engine flush at every oil change (small can you pour in 15 minutes before draining the oil). It's laughed at on here, and viewed as snake oil, but it's a habit I got into at 18 yrs old with an old Sierra, and have stuck with through all my cars since. Can't say it does any good, but neither does it do any harm.

What I have done before buying a car which has an iffy history and an unknown last service date is buy the cheapest oil I can find to spec as well as a can of my chosen brew, and a couple of filters. Drain the old oil hot, fill with the cheap stuff, fit the first new filter, take the car on a long run to get it hot, then drop the oil immediately on return, filling up with the good stuff, and fitting the second new filter. This really does give a clear dipstick on a petrol engine.
