Im having a problem with my mothers Fiesta Mk4. She told me there was no heating working and that the temperature gauge wasnt working.
I replaced the thermostat today and no joy plus indeed the temperature guage is off ie doesnt move at all.
There is enough water in the header tank and the engine seems to be working fine.

I am wondering if this could be the heater vavle or something else
I noticed that the heater dial is pretty loose ie non responsive plus also the interior fan doesnt work only on number 4. Likewise the radio doesnt work either so wondered if they were on the same circuit or some relay.

Any help appreciated

Hi, Ive got vibration in my seat at speeds 1mph to 35-40mph. Also it feels like the car is sort of bouncing? i.e when on a smooth road it is sort of like you are driving over cats eyes......

Then as I pick up speed the vibration shifts to the steering wheel at about 50mph and becomes more aggressive, until 65-70mph when it sort of starts to level out allover the car and is not as bad?

Ive had wheel alignment done and one of my front wheels balanced, as well as a new bearing and cv boot? the garage said in the MOT my rear nearside tyre needs replacing, could this be the cause of this?

Also the front tyre I had replaced (the offside one) was all smooth around the outer edge?

Im going to the tyre place to have my other front tyre balanced on sat morning and the nearside rear replaced.

Cheers for any help!

Feel very annoyed with myself - got a NIP for "running" (?) a red light. Apparently I was 1.31 seconds into a red light. remember it well - came towards lights, in a 50 limit, clear road so doing 45 - 50 ish (careful!!! speed cameras also) and as I approached lights changed from green. One of those situations - shall I brake harshly or shall I go on - decided to go on - obviously a mistake. Probably the 1.31 seconds it took me to make the decision. Ironically, I am so often the one to be at the front of the queue that my wife mocks me about it and I have been known to stop at green lights because I assume they will always be red for me. Ironically 2 - a mate was done at the same lights exactly a week before - for running the lights by ..........1.31 seconds.
Last time I was done was in 1970 for doing 45 in a van limited to 40 on a deserted dual carriageway at 3am sometime in 1969.
Ah well - better pay upand take the points - no chance of my previously good record being taken into account.
Thanks for letting me get my annoyance (with myself for poor judgement) off my chest.

If Rattle really is a techno geek he'll be able to hack into the system and shut it all down just like in the Italian Job remake.

PS can you get cars with heated steering
wheels? My steering wheel is always freezing cold until the coolant warms up and can
point the blowers to it.

Um, gloves?

I'm pretty flummoxed by this one.....

From Autocar...

"Renault's decision to call its electric supermini Zoe has caused uproar in France.

"Press reports suggest parents of children named Zoe are reported to have flooded the company with complaints and launched online petitions demanding the name be changed."

"Our daughters have a beautiful first name that must not be associated with a car, so let us unite to bring pressure on a multinational which is going to destroy this pretty name for a children," says a petition launched by Sebastien Mortreus, from Auby."

Hello,

I wondered if you might be able to help me.

I bought a 1 year old, one owner, Nissan Micra from a Nissan dealer in
Jan '07. Everything seemed to be in perfect working order & the
vehicle had 3 services left on it's warantee (which expires Jan '10).
It had a service with the same Nissan dealer in '07 & another in '08.

In Nov '08 I bumped the left side (rear passenger door) into a
bollard. I took the car to a garage recommended by my insurance
company. The door needed to be replaced & the door of the arch needed
making good. I was covered by insurance, the total cost was approx
£1,500.

I started smelling a fowl smell in my car 4 weeks ago, I only realised
it was coming from the mold covered boot last week (it's spread to
some seats & surrounding areas, my child's buggy). It was then that
noticed that the area where my tyre sits had approx 1" of water
sitting in it. I assumed the water had leaked in from above.

I booked my car in for a final service at the Nissan dealers & asked
them to look at this issue. Yesterday, over the phone, the service man
asked me if I'd had an accident involving the passenger door, I told
them that I had, he told me that the garage who had fixed this
accident had done a "really bad job" of replacing my boot floor (the
garage never mentioned doing anything to the boot floor to me), that
there was a hole all the way round the boot floor & that he could see
outside through it.

My insurance company suggested I take the car to the bodyworks dept of
the Nissan dealership to get an estimate for the damage not properly
repaired by the garage, they would send someone out to evaluate the
damage themselves next week, & that they would bill the garage for
this cost of the repair.

Today, the Nissan dealer's bodyworks manager couldn't find the hole,
so he phoned the service man. The service man replied that he'd never
mentioned a hole or that he could see outside, only that he'd said it
was a really bad boot replacement. I have no idea why he lied about
this. The manager said that he was 100% sure that the boot replacement
would not have been caused by the bollard accident & that at some
point the car had been shunted forward during an accident (he said my
insurance company wouldn't therefore cover me for this). The mechanic
confirmed this & said another reason this was apparent was because it
was possible to see that the tail gate had been replaced. The manager
said that either the work had been done prior to my buying the car
(that sales people might as well be selling fruit & veg as cars for
the amount they knew about them) or whilst at the garage while it was
being repaired (assuming there had been an on site accident).

The manager & engineer were unable to work out where the water was
coming in from & would need to remove the rear passenger seats & look
underneath the car (the manager said he didn't know why this hadn't
already been done by the service dept). The engineer said he assumed
it would be the welded area under the passenger seat. He also told me
that the work to the door & the arch had been done very well. They
both confirmed that the boot floor work had been done badly & needed
to be fixed.

The manager suggested I take my car home & that he would find out when
this work had been done.

Are the Nissan dealership responsible for fixing my car as I bought an
'as good as new car' from them which it blatantally wasn't? I'm also
worried that the structure of car isn't as safe as I bought it
thinking it was due to this accident (had I known it had been involved
in an accident requiring a new boot floor I wouldn't never have bought
it). I read somehwere that I should stop dirving the car & let the
dealership know, but also write them a letter recording all of this. I
don't to irritate them though, as the bodyworks dept seem to be quite
helpful at this stage.

I would be sincerely grateful for any help or advice.

Many thanks! Read more

Sam, you said:

"that it had needed a couple of other jobs (one on the exhaust)"

I think this is where you got them by the short and curlies. If exhaust had been leaking back into the car through the boot floor then that could have been potentially very bad news for you.

Hello,I've got a Multi-lock fitted to my Vectra and I'm trying to find a way to remove it !
I've taken the lock itself off, but I'm stuck with the metal plate that comes up to the left of the Gear stick. Is it welded to the underneath of the car or is it bolted ? Can I get access from underneath or do I have to remove all of the trim inside of the car?
Or, will it have to be cut out (not much room for an angle grinder).
Any help at all would be very welcome.( If you need to know the reason, its because it never gets used and its big and ugly).
Thanks. Read more

Couple park their car at 9:40 and at 9:45 they were issued a Penalty Notice.
Paid up but took matters to court - parking company had erected signs but these were "open to interpretation".

After many months the case made the courts and the couple got some money back + some costs but not their legal fees. Couple have created a precedent at that carpark and now many others will get their money back.

Parking was Falkirk, Parking Management Co based in Birmingham.

In the intervening months the couple were threatened with legal matters, debt collectors etc but held out and WON!!!!! Read more

If it was Small Claims Track then that does not count as a legally binding
case precedent. Would have to be full County Court which seems unlikely for such a
small claim.

One of the lawyers will correct me if I'm wrong. County Court or High Court case may be persuasive but authority starts in the Court of Appeal. However as stated below this case was in Scotland so different system and, I think different (ie devolved) laws.

Hi,
I have had a Avensis auto now for about 10 months,it had about 13,000 on the clock then.
Its now got about 26,000 on the clock and I've noticed over the last few weeks a quite considerable increase in go in it,almost if a fault had suddenly cleared!
I thought running in/loosening up periods were a thing of the past now?
