There have been several occasions I have wished I had a blue flashing light, most notably following a car through a part of London: going at 15 miles an hour, weaving from side to side - not only on the mobile, in his right hand, but emphasising whatever he was saying with his left!

Is a G30 type antifreeze suitable for use in a VW engine that specifies G12 ? Read more
This is a VW trick to get you to spend lotsamoney.
On that car why not use a good quality AF that is fine in aluminium engines?, after all, VW do not make their engines of anything that others do not. That what I used n my VW diesel (1.9) and it was fine.
You are not under warranty, after all!

Remember, though, you are replacing an electrical item in a bathroom, and you will be breaking the law if you DIY. Part P of the building regulations applies. (I like to be warned before breaking the law...)"
OK, I have sourced a fused switch from a box of spares in the shed.
I thought it was only wiring that now had to be done by a qualified electrician? In any case, the switch will be in the loft, not the bathroom itself. Surely that is ok, it's no more of a job than wiring a plug after all.
There seems to be precious little information about the A1 Cambridgeshire weekend closures southbound due to roadworks between Brampton Hut and Wyboston, in Brampton.
Does anyone know the timings of these weekend closures? As I need to travel south tomorrow (Sunday 11th October) on a fairly tight schedule I am keen to discover when the road re-opens. Read more
In case anyone is interested, they have finished the work on the southbound carriageway of the A1, and have now started work on the northbound carriageway.
The closure times are from 8pm to 6am Monday to Thursday, and from 9pm Friday until 6am Monday (so closed all weekend).
Northbound traffic will be diverted off the A1 onto the A428 eastbound to Caxton Gibbet and from there up the A1198 to Godmanchester, and from there back to the A1 north of Huntingdon.
If you (or your satnav) think that you know a shorter diversion route through St Neots, then so did 1000 other motorists yesterday, and none of them ended up going anywhere very fast, just stuck in a very very slow moving traffic jam.
Have seen a 1' series coupe for sale at a BMW dealer,ex central BMW stock,9 months old but with just 300 miles on the clock.does this mean the car has been stuck in a compound for 6-7 months in all weather, hence the low mileage?. Read more
Large dealer groups buy in large amounts of stock to get maufacturer discounts etc at certain times and pre registering them is a pre condition . Sometimes they have to own them for periods of time. My golf was 6mths old and pre reg with 95 miles on the clock but with a very nice discount. May have also been used as a demo after storage with that mileage
please could some help
have just brought new fiat panda 1.1
have noticed after driving the car when the car is turned off
i seem to be getting a clicking noise under the car
could it be the raidator cooling down any help please tks Read more
it could be the small Panda, usually a Red Panda rather than the rarer Giant Panda, which every 1.1 Active is provided with, winding up the clockwork motor in preparation for your next journey.
More likely, however, is the cooling of hot parts such as exhaust and the cat. Don't ask me why a Panda has a cat, probably just needs a feline mate to keep him or her company.
i need help please? what it the normal temperature for a cooling fan to switch on, on an 1998 1.6 8v vauxhall astra? mine switches on at 100, is this normal, also my normal running temp is about 94-95 degrees but if i sit in traffic for 2 or 3 mins it quickly rises to 100 i dont know if this is normal for these cars. Read more
good possibility you will wreck the radiator by changing the switch as it sits in a metal clip in the plastic housing
as said switch doing its job ,your gauge is analogue like an old Akai 4000DB ,unlike a grundig tk25 that only had a magic eye

It's the time of my annual journey into the Kafkaesque world of insurers. Last year our au pair, who has been off the policy since his return to the Czech Republic in July, had a tyre burst on him on the motorway. The tyre shredded along its length and damaged the bodywork, causing about £1200 of damage so we claimed.
This incident is both a 'driver at fault' accident (huh?) and, I am utterly baffled to find, something that counts against me when I am renewing the policy on the car.
The insurers take into account (no fault) claims when I was the driver of another on another policy, which I can sort of understand. But how is the car, or any of the named drivers on the policy or the public at large, or the man in the moon at any greater risk because a driver who now no longer even lives in the country once had a tyre blow out on him?
Is there any insurer out there who has even the most basic grasp of risk? Or are they all 'make it up as you go along' charlatans?

Thanks jbif, I appreciate you taking time to find that paper. I will read it
I think you probably understand that the thread title was tongue in cheek.
I also think that we are grinding to a halt and that we will never agree on the 'logic' of infering risk from circumstances which do not exist.
Maybe an actuary with time on his hands may stumble across this thread and shed some light.

your a star thank you very much appreciated
