Hi,

I've been told in the past that the way that the Audi stereos are powered is that they receive a constant feed from the battery and when the ignition is turned off would continue to supply power to the radio. If there is no demand for power then the stereo cuts off its demand for power itself.

Hence, if you install a handsfree car kit to an Audi and re-use/piggyback-off the stereo power supply that the battery will drain and eventually go flat.

Thanks,
Gordon

Did you take it back to the installer for them to fix. If not it is your problem. Regards Peter

Here is a local families City motor, photographed an hour ago.

1) make?

2) location?

3) valeting products used?

(It`s the same size as a typical double cab pickup, but looks larger due to the wide angle lens and skinny wheels)

I found this motoring video on utube about Manila, where we spent our last night just a couple of streets inland from the Mall Of Asia. The ballut is shown too - part of my initiation tests 20+yrs ago....

I find it sad that the current flooding disaster of Manila barely registers on our news channels. I`m told by sources close to me that it`s their own fault for pursuing isolationist policies following the departure of the US.

I`ve noticed the retraction of west and east over twenty years and it`s notable that only one western carrier now flies into Manila. (KLM)

Just notice next time there is a travel or other program showing maps of the area. All the surrounding countries are named and there is just an unnamed land mass where the Philippines is.

I`ve seen mobile phones burst onto the streets and in the last 10yrs top spec 4x4`s and more recently Double cab pickups. Most of these are `Chelsea Tractors` and are typically better represented new on the streets in one horse town Tacloban, than here in the provincial, Northern, UK.

Anyway, a few thoughts for the poor and destitute, the dead through flooding and the rich in their drowned Double cabs. (With stainless and white upriser roll bars and near 100% all round tints)

Here is traffic in Manila in better times

Hello,

Some of you may recall that I posted about six weeks ago regarding a notice of intent to prosecute my good lady, Ms T.R., over an incident on a roundabout.

After a bit of a wait, she was asked to provide documentation (M.O.T., license etc), which she did. A week after that we received a letter stating that the NIP was withdrawn.

Thanks for the advice etc, turns out nothing was required. There was no explanation as to why it was withdrawn.

Thanks Pug. Apologies, had to dash out after posting earlier.

Thanks for all the interest, advice and help. Mrs T.R. is (as we speak) reading my copy of the I.A.M.'s guide on advanced driving. She has realised as a result of this episod that perhaps she would do well to brush up and learn new skills. It could easisly have been much, much worse.

Thanks,

T.R.

Has anyone here used autoquake to buy a car recently, and do they have any information or opinions, good or bad?
I know there's an autoquake thread, but it shows up as hidden, so I don't seem able to use it. Read more

Haven't used them but website looks loaded with detail, think for many the cost of delivery would take away any of the saving?

I've just spent £500 having a core plug leak fixed (it was behind the transmission which meant it all had to come out). Anyways, on the invoice was an advisory that the head gasket is showing signs of leakage. Does anyone have an idea how much it would cost to have it done - it's a 3.3 petrol grand voyager ? Hi
Unlikely head gasket as they don't suffer from them going but there are 2 head gaskets and it's a v6 engine are we just talking 1 head or both? more likely it's only the v manifold gasket in between the heads and that is very easy to change.

My recently purchased 626 2.0 Sport is being a tad thirsty. It managed 28mpg on a really gentle long run and 21mpg on a more spirited drive over the Penines. Performance seems good although I have no perfect condition experience to compare it to. Idle is a tad lumpy, enough to cause very minor vibration of the gearstick.

Air filter was in a disgusting state and replaced today. Engine oil and filter were replaced by the supplying garage one month ago. Timing belt, tensioner and water pump were replaced one month before that. Tyre pressure is ok (32psi). The car has covered 64,000 miles, is 9 years old and is in good condition with plenty of main dealer history. I'm not driving it like a boy racer, nor like an old lady.

Any ideas of what's causing this slightly disappointing economy? I was hoping for a consistent 30mpg plus... Read more

New filter hasn't made much difference. Plugs visually OK at the insulator and electrode but a bit black at the end of the thread.

In a nearby village, the local Council has commissioned a traffic calming scheme and the works are currently taking place now. The road is closed in the daytime while the works are ongoing to build what are called 'kerb build outs' to slow traffic down. In the evenings, the raod is reopened with signage sayiong there's is roadworks. There are no signs stating who has right of way (although to most people it is obvious).

The 'kerb build outs' are on a blind corner and in my opinion, along with others I have spoken to, are sited in a dangerous position. Unfortunately, last week I was approaching the 'kerb build outs' and an oncoming car was speeding around the build outs and did not move back into her lane in time and ended up smashing my wing mirror. The woman didn't stop either.

I have subsequently been in touch with the Highways Services at the Council and they said the scheme was independently assessed and was deemed safe. Since then, the chap has visited the site and also met with a local councillor following concerns raised by local residents. He has arranged another visit with a safety expert to discuss what changes can be made, pending on availability of funds.

In my view, this is recognition that the scheme is not safe. Now, I had the wing mirror replaced the next day and paid for out of my own pocket. I was prepared to put this incident down to experience and bad luck. But my wife is claiming we should sue the council for negligence now that we have an email implying the scheme is not safe.

What are your views? Should we move on and forget the whole thing and be glad the problem is being solved without adding to the local taxpayers pockets by claiming for a cost of a new wing mirror? Or should we put a claim in and hope for some costs towards the new wing mirror?

Thanks. Read more

Yip, fault with other driver.
Would have been the same if you had been passing a parked car rather than council obstacle.

Just a couple of things really. Have ordered a 59 plate Note 1.DCi - in the new N-TEC trim - after deciding to upgrade my little Micra. Micra is 03 and purchased as my first car from a car supermarket. So already in stock etc. when I looked.

This time I have to wait 6-8 weeks to get the exact spec - is this normal or a result of cautious building in the recent climate? - apparently the Quashquai N-TEC is up to mid-January!

Anyway, I'm sure this is not so, but just to confirm I do NOT have to take servicing at the local dealer to maintain the warranty do I? so long as the work s done to exact standards and parts by a VAT reg'd garage (or something along those lines). I also did this with the little Micra.

I only purchased local (Sunderland) to use the 20% family discount. Nothing in the rules/paperwork stating the car needs to be serviced or MOT'd there in the future.

Just looking beyond the sale and future running costs.

Ask anyone who has ordered a new car this year and it is the same story - they have used up all their stocks and now build them to order.
