Hi Everyone,

I have a Renault 21 Savanna Estate which is now in need of a new front subframe. I have two problems;

1) I could do with some information on how difficult a job this is to do onesself and what equipment you would need to get it done.

2) I am having a lot of difficulty locating a second hand front subframe and was hoping someone might have some possibilities to throw my way. I am located in Hertfordshire.

I would be much appreciative for help anyone can put my way.

Many thanks in advance. Read more

Incredible.

It is quite a surprise - nothing nasty and safe for your children to see - so I will leave you to click on the below link and read for yourselves.

Hello,
Does anyone if a v6 or turbo engine and gearbox from a 406 would fit into a 405 without too much hassle?

The diesel engines are pretty well the same so I would imagine so, but you would need the doner car to make sure you have all the necessary bits.

We hear subjective impressions about how traffic levels seem lower as the economy has gone into decline.

One early sign, months ago, for me, was what a rare sight concrete mixer trucks were becoming (hardly ever see any now).

But are there any actual statistics which show that general traffic levels have fallen? Read more

there was a very recent BBC article following a survey of congestion on the A14 which showed a 50% reduction in congestion ( a measure of vehicles travelling less than 30mh)
IME I travel Portsmouth-Durham almost weekly. Generally in last 6 months my journey has been less subject to hold ups and the amount of vehicles has reduced. However last Monday going N-S it was horrendous on M1 from Sheffield to Nottingham.

This thread is not motoring related apart from it being a car that was vandalised. Therefore it is now locked.

I hope some BR members will think this is useful. If I lost my wallet or had my car broken into I wouldn't know where to start re getting replacement docs, contact numbers of card companies etc. Even if I had the numbers they would probably be in the missing wallet!

I have seen it suggested that one should photocopy passport and car documents and make a list of relevant elephone numbers and anything important to one and then include the text and attachments in an e mail which one sends to oneself. Then, so long as one can get internet access it should be possible to retrieve this information aywhere in the World. This sounds like a good idea and should be secure. Can anybody see a downside that I have (probably) missed?

I've had the same thoughts recently and I now have a fire safe at home with essential documents in it (insurances etc)

I also scan in and upload documents to my account at www.box.net so I can access them anywhere in the world, if the firesafe doesn't work and I have to access documents by other means.

Regarding data protection, for really important documents or if you're emailing things to yourself, put them in Word or Adobe Acrobat format and password protect them.

Chris.

Steady on boys! You can't be serious when you suggest a Focus is superior to a Golf? When it comes to ownership over 5-6 years the Golf has it hands down. The Focus is a good drive but take one of each at 5/6 yrs and the Golf feels better. Less rattles, less suspension noise through the body, a greater feeling of integrity. A secondhand Focus is a great buy because they're cheap. They're cheap for a reason...

Then nothing for few weeks, then flooding again

Assuming the coolant level isn't dropping, your flooding must be due to rainwater ingress. The loo roll idea mentioned above is good, all I would do the next time it happens is, before moving the vehicle, have a good look round inside the car for any wetness on door trims, carpets (apart from the obvious), roof lining etc. Either feel by hand or by pressing pads of newspaper/Charmin against the vehicle trim.

Does it only do it after being parked on a slope or with two wheels up a kerb? I had a Ford with a sunroof which only leaked when the car was leaning to the left (it was actually parked foursquare on the N/S of a steeply cambered road) - solution: I parked it pointing the other way.

After seeing the news of the Nano on sale in India, it got me thinking as a possible cheap second car (poodle around town use).

I have heard that at a later date the Euro version of the Nano will be available (maybe to meet Euro crash standards) so it will probably be bigger and more expensive.
Probably still a barging though.

So, if the Nano came out for sale in the UK would you buy one ?

No, not even if they gave them away free, paid all fuel, insurance, maintenance, RFL and provided a disguise to wear when driving.
