Hi, how many of you have tried a successful piston ring and/or big end bearing change on the alloy block se zetec engines. Ford recommend the bottom ends shouldn't be stripped but over the years I've done several. Most of the time the engines were heavy oil users, some went on to misfire; and some when stripped had burnt valves, and always stuck piston rings. The oil control rings were nearly always completely stuck and exerted NO outward sealing pressure.
The history of the oil being used was the most common suspect. Any one else heard of any success on these zetecs. All the best. Read more
I heard it's a no win situation these don't re con you have to get a short motor.
However if it was mine id have a go if you can but it's your risk!.
Got major electrical gremlins in the mother-in-laws megane! If only it was the airbag, or brakes. Sorry I digress......
1- when the brakes are applied the rear indicator light comes on, but only on the left hand side.
2- believe it or not to turn the windscreen wipers on you have to turn the heater on!?!
I have disconnected the wiper arm but still the wipers only work via the heater switch, checked all electrical connections and fuses and there is no corrosion on any connections or bulbs, they are in good nick and are clean.
Has anyone else experienced this before because I know any garage especially renault is gonna sting me for these electrical probs, or any advice...please no mother-in-law jokes! Read more
Surprise suprise, I too am having electrical faults with my 1998 1.6 megane classic, mine quite simply cuts out if i should choose to use the indicator or windscreen wiper stems?? any idea's for me on this?? Also suffering with my two rear door being permanently locked??
When I click on the Fiesta road test picture at the top of the forum screen, the video window appears at a fixed position within the browser frame, with a 1 inch gap between the top of the video window and the top of the browser frame.
Unfortunately though I've only got a diddy Dell X1 (work) laptop with 768 pixel vertical resolution, and unless I maximise the browser, the bottom of the video (and hence the video controls) disappears behind the bottom of the browser frame.
It would be better if I could move the video window up within the browser frame by moving the vertical scroll bar down, decreasing the 1 inch gap above the video. But moving the scroll bar only moves the discussion contents behind the video, not the video itself whose position is fixed relative to the browser frame.
I guess this is only an issue for low res displays, but is there anything to be gained by fixing the video position for higher res users? Or is a fixed position easier to implement?

Hi there
I have looked at buying a used car. When I looked at the V5 document it said "vehicle registration mark non-transferable."
I have now done an HPI check which comes up fine, but says that the VRM is no longer on this vehicle, though the description matches up.
Any thoughts on whether this could be something dodgy?
Cheers Read more
Going back to the original query, HPI check was out of date. Like you say the original plate had been put back on and the HPI check not updated.
What is a camshaft defuser? Friend has just had this replaced by Renault out of warranty due to low mileage (would have been £660). I can only guess its what I would call a variator or tensioner. Read more

Very common issue on a Megane, thank your lucky stars it went within waranty. New members always welcome.
Why does this website every so often go offline for 5 min periods ???????????
You get error:
"Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"
It keeps doing it.
Very annoying if you are editing a post.
And I don't have any problem accessing other big websites, Google, BBC etc., when it goes offline.
Does anyone else get this problem ????
Edited the subject line to remove the SHOUTING and make it fit/obvious what it was about Read more
I suggest we lock this as read only for now. We know there is a problem and as a mod I am also affected. So want it fixing and will work with the site admin to work out the problem. No promises in time frame etc.
So at 100 replies it's about to be read only. We know there is a problem which may or may not be site related.
Just been watching Road Wars on Sky 3 (dated 2005), and amongst the usual chases there was what appeared to be motorway footage taken by an in-car police camera with the speed displayed as up to 125-130mph.
However, if the police car was doing 130, then all the other vehicles on the motorway must have been doing well over 100, and presumably indicating more on their un-calibrated speedos. They weren't flashing past as you would expect if they had been going at about half the speed - if they had been doing say 70, then I would have estimated the police car's speed as 80 max.
The commentary mentioned that the police video evidence had helped result in a lengthy sentence for the speeding driver (or words to that effect).
Is it possible that the camera's speedo hadn't being correctly calibrated, or become un-calibrated? Or is it just a result of some TV production process? Or was everybody on the motorway really doing 100mph+? (Ok- or am I just a very bad judge of relative speed?)

Was the vehicle on the RHS of the road so the speedo is in KPH
and filmed abroad.
No - it was the M40 IIRC. I think it's Thames Valley based, although there are occasional US clips.
Just opened an Email from a National number plate company offering me 35 EA ( my initials ) Very nice. Normally retailing at £6999 they are prepared to sell it to me for the ' greatly reduced price' of...wait for it......£7999.
Smart marketing policy or what ?

I don't live anywhere near London, but there is a survey about bikes and bus lanes that I've seen. We have use of most of them up here and they make life much smoother on a bike.

We've been able to use bus lanes on Red Routes in London since 6th January and it has made a heck of a difference to journey smoothness: hardly any appreciable hold-ups.
Don't seem to have seen so many bike accidents either.

Thank you all for your assistance with my problem
