Today I chucked in the bin the floor mats out of my MG ZT and quite frankly the interior is better for it in my opinion. Certainly looks tidier.

With exactly the same carpet trim as what underneath I wondered what on earth there purpose was?

They get under the pedals (sometimes). The retaining clips break. They curl up at the edges... Rubber ones just look plain tacky and hard to clean too IMO.

If your car has them why not take them out for a day and see how much tidier the floor looks.

The last time we discussed it was here....that ran to 155 posts - PU

Moved into the "locked" thread, I clearly underestimated the enthusiasm for bits of carpet :-)

I've got a rattle coming from my 1.3 Fiesta. It only rattles when turning in 1st gear from a standstill. Anyone got any idea what this could be? Read more

Check the bonnet is firm down at the adjustable rubber stops, these screw up and down so if they've been touched will make the bonnet rattle.

Those bonnet clips are around 75p each, but careful as they go up like the price of petrol.

My mother, aged 80 has just had her first road accident. Her 10 year old one owner Honda Civic 1.5 Vtec with just 30000 miles has been written off by the insurance company. There offer is £1300. The price guides on sale go back to 1998 only. The assessor said he used Glasse's guide. For the mileage the price seems low. Any thought on what I should suggest is a fair price ?

Often said, but very true: "A car is worth what someone will pay you for it."

One thing that does puzzle me is the national nature of price guides. Travelling around; I see cars for sale at silly money [by S/E standards] getting snapped up.

The trade price of a 7 y/o car in the S/E is about half what it'll fetch in Scotland. [Cars seem to sell new in the South and then migrate northwards like spring birds.]

It'd be fascinating to see the year-identifier stats for an ANPR on the A3, against one on the A82.

"Test drive" - that's the most suspicious part. Taking someone out for a "test drive" of a 21 year old car - with, what, a cloned number plate? - on Saturday morning. Yeah, right...
"When they had returned to his home..." Sounds like a first date that didn't work out...
Glad to hear there were no serious injuries. Better get Grissom and co to work on the deep voice and blue stripped (sic) jacket

I first saw a roomster in a french hyper market and thought what an odd looking car.

However I understand that it has overcome bmw in a comparison test. I cant find that thread so I thought that if I started a new one now I could come back tomorrow am and read all about it.

Do they do Roomsters in black? I can't think of any vehicle that looks more like a hearse apart from hearses themselves!

Hi,

I have a problem with my P reg Rover 220 sdi. The EML is on but it only comes on on the second start of the day,and the engine revs up and then goes back to tick over.

When the light is on the car loses slight power. I've taken it to Rover who diagnosed a faulty fuel shut off valve but want 300 pounds to change it and also to two garages who dont think its the shut off valve but a faulty signal from the ECU.

My partner changed the valve himself and it hasnt made any difference but no one seems to know what the problem is and i have my grandad in hospital very very ill and im stuck without a flippin car. I'm off work on the sick so spending 300+ at the moment is really scaring me.

My partner has found in the Haynes book a fuel shut off relay so we are wondering if it could be that, logically not that im anywhere near an expert this makes sense as the fault is intermittent and if it was the shut off valve people have said it would be on or off.

Please can you help me, im now a woman on the edge, ill replace the ecu if im reasonably sure thats what it is but im baffling everyone.do you know where that relay is the haynes isnt very helpful. thank you.cari

SLT, text re-formatted as well.

The front suspension on my Focus has started to make a knocking noise when going over anykind of road surface that isn't totally smooth, which to be honest must cover a good 85% of the road around here. The noise appears to be more prominent when going over older rougher uneven road surfaces as apposed to say potholes or speed bumps (although it is still noticeable over these just to a lesser extent).

Is anybody are of a common issue with the front suspension of the Focus? A friend of mine who has a different make of car has replaced the suspension drop links to resolve a similar issue.

Any advice welcome. Thanks in advance. Read more

Thanks for the advice, it was the suspension drop link. Only took about 30 mins to change and all quite now, no knocking noise :)

Hi

Just renewed my car insurance with The Post Office (I don't think this breaks any naming and shaming rules). I know that this issue has been discussed on here, but just wanted to share my experience.

Renewal comes through at £315.56, I've gone online in the last few weeks with The Post Office and completed a new insurance quote and got a price of £288.90 (a difference of £26).

I enquired why there was a difference there and he said that the renewal price is what the price was 28 days before the renewal date. I explained that I'd got the online quote on the 27th October. He stood by the fact that the price was that much more when they sent out the renewal.

I said that I thought it was a bit cheeky if, for every renewal they charge £25-£30 more than they need to and they're onto a bit of earner.

He said that every business needs to make money and I said surely not by overcharging by £25-£30 on every renewal.

His response, word for word - "Insurance is a dodgy old game, trust me."

Well I've renewed the policy with them so we'll see what happens if I have any problems......

I renewed with them for a few reasons and, judging by the responses on here, most of the other insurance companies seem to apply the same method.

I've been with The Post Office for a few years and they have a UK based call centre which is very important to me, I don't pay any excess if I get hit by an uninsured driver, 60 days European cover and they arrange to get my car to my home address if I'm involved in an accident.

Again, as previously mentioned on here, you never know the level of support you get until you have to claim and, touch wood, I've avoided that so far.

The overheads for my method of renewal are no more than applying online as a new customer. I shopped around using the online comparison websites and then made a 5 minute phone call to The Post Office, job done and renewed at the lower rate.

It's no hassle and I'm a little bit better off. It's horses for courses, I feel happy the way I've done it because I've shopped around and get the best deal (in terms of price and cover) I could just by spending a little bit of time on it.
