1997 220 Diesel ECU problems - caz22
Hi,

I have a problem with my P reg Rover 220 sdi. The EML is on but it only comes on on the second start of the day,and the engine revs up and then goes back to tick over.

When the light is on the car loses slight power. I've taken it to Rover who diagnosed a faulty fuel shut off valve but want 300 pounds to change it and also to two garages who dont think its the shut off valve but a faulty signal from the ECU.

My partner changed the valve himself and it hasnt made any difference but no one seems to know what the problem is and i have my grandad in hospital very very ill and im stuck without a flippin car. I'm off work on the sick so spending 300+ at the moment is really scaring me.

My partner has found in the Haynes book a fuel shut off relay so we are wondering if it could be that, logically not that im anywhere near an expert this makes sense as the fault is intermittent and if it was the shut off valve people have said it would be on or off.

Please can you help me, im now a woman on the edge, ill replace the ecu if im reasonably sure thats what it is but im baffling everyone.do you know where that relay is the haynes isnt very helpful. thank you.cari

SLT, text re-formatted as well.

That's almost unreadable; frankly, if you want help, that's not the way to get it.

Why does "rover" say it's the fuel shut-off? It's relay is part of the black plastic module next to the ECU and the fuse box.
