Hi
I am looking at a neigbours 406 & it appears to have a noisy power steering pump with evidence of fluid leaking underneath it.
I presume the bearings have gone hence the noise & leakage.
Is this a common fault & is it an 'easyish' repair?
Any ideas on the best place of obtaining a replacement at a reasonable price? Is this going to be a factors part or genuine Peugeot?
Thanks in advance for your assistace.

I replaced mine a couple of years ago, I took a chance and bought one off ebay from a car being broken. I think I paid about £25 for it.
Hi guys,
Just started experiencing problems with the rear suspension on my 98-1.8i petrol LX, it wont go up. I've checked the fluid it's O.K. and have checked the rear connector it's in tact but seemed to be stiff, sprayed on tons of wd40 but don't know how much movement there should be on the pivot going into the valve. Can anyone help?

How do you mean won't go up? In normal use, or only when you put the manual lever to high? If the former then it might be possible to free the height corrector off, but it will probably need removing from the car to do so. If the latter then it's probably the manual lever on the side of the corrector seized up - it's only operated by a spring from the manual lever to if it's tight it will not move. This can be corrected with the car on ramps by moving the lever on the HC back and forwards till it frees off.

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....
Hi all
I have a rattle/rumble noise from what sounds like an area between the front wheels and immediately below the driver/passenger seat.
I have taken it to a mechanic I know who have got it up on a ramp and lubricated bushes/joints and all sorts but says he cannot locate the noise.
I am not mechanic so all I can do in my amateurish way describe the noise and hope someone recognises the symptoms. In my words it sounds like a suspension damper is rattling in the bottom joint with the suspension leg.
But Who knows. Any ideas?

Hi, did you ever get to resovle the problem you had with rattle/rumble sound from under your Civic. I have sounds like to same problem with my 56 reg Civic any ideas. Your help would be appreciated as driving me mad! Thanks.
You all knew I meant Livingstone didn't you ?
At last someone (Jim O Donnell - MD of BMW UK) has started speaking some sense to counter the anti-car rhetoric spoken by many councils and MP's.
Have a look at the link below for more details.
I have said for a while now that someone needs to respond to the anti-car brigade in a sensible cohesive manner and it looks like Jim has done it. Cars are just an easy target and while the politicians are picking on car owners in the UK the biggest CO2 polluters - industry and houses get away without a single moan from the MP's
I think all the others should join in as well and often wonder where the voice of the motoring organisations is. The SMMT for instance - what is Paul Everitt - the Chief Exec actually doing to justify his salary - because from what I see he is not doing a very good job in defending the motor trade and car users.

Red Ken might well be an intelligent man, but he's also an underhand sneaky one as well, which is a trait i really do not like.
If he wanted to introduce a green tax for Central London, he should have said so in the first place when he wanted to be elected. He didn't, because of course he wouldn't have been voted in then would he... so he covered up his real intent and called it something else.
If he truly wanted car drivers to use public transport, where pollution or congestion is a problem (and in C.London it is) ... then there are some simple ways of doing it:
1, Have multi storey car parks at tube/bus stations
2, Have guards on buses and tube trains, so that Mr Oik has less chance of intimidating
Mr Average
3, Get rid of CPZs near bus stations/ tube stations. It can hardly be a surprise that
people who want to use public transport might want to park near the stations.
4, make sure public transport is clean.
5, make the North Circular and South Circular into a mini M25, so people will go around
the centre, not through it.
6, subsidise the costs above from the green tax ( and inc a river boat service)
At the moment most people use public transport when it's essential. If they did the above a great chunk of the public might use it through choice. I find it ironic that the well off can do as they wish (and keep using their cars) and yet the poor have to ENDURE our public trasnport systems. For a Far Left politician i'm amazed he's missed this, unless he's got more up his sleeve.
UK currently has appx 30 million cars and 26 million houses.
The car price drops the moment you're driving out of forecourt.
Yet, house price keeps on rising (inspite of crash talks nowadays)
I've seen many people living in £250k houses and riding a £500 banger.
They think of their children's future and thus invest on houses.
Yet, driving a 15-yr old banger on motorways at 90 mph is even more dangerous for their children!
Why there is so much public apathy towards cars? Read more
I suppose our house cost about £30 to build.
I don't want any car to last as long as our house has (approx 180 years).. but I suppose it probably would have been rebuilt as often:-)

Having the joys of children I have found that they are able to totally wreck a freshly cleaned car. But my biggest issue is with the nice woven fabric seats in my Honda that seem to have grime ground into the cloth.
From your collective experiences do you think it is best to have a valet once in a while or use the money to buy the equipment yourself?
If the latter what deep cleaning/steam cleaner equipment would you recommend

Hi All, I have a 1.6 16v 100 bravo with an injector problem - does anyone know if the injectors from the 1.6 16V 85 model would fit or would the injectors most likely be completley different? Also are the engine fitted to the bravo identical to the Brava - I assume so.
I tried asking Fiat the above question and 1 garage confirmed yes they will def fit and 1 said they are different injectors!
can someone pls help me out so i can get my car back on the road without getting fleeced!
Thanks in advance Read more
I don't have a Marelli cross-reference book to hand; but try MM Competition Systems on 08707 444666 and see if they have any.
I am amazed at the number of people in the 'describe yourself' thread who own up to owing a Legacy or Outback.
Can we have a quick roll call of all such people and a brief desrciption of your car. It would be nice to have a Back Room Subaru owners meet.....
EIII :-)
Subaru Outback 3.0Rn in 'champagne'. New September 2005, acquired November 2006 at 22,000 miles and now done 30,000 miles. Originally an IM car, was sold to a Subaru dealer for the boss's wife and now its mine! Read more
Honest John describes the 3.0 R Spec B as " Fantastic!, A great big STi". If you look at the road test for 2.0 or (2.5?) Legacy on this site, you will see his comments, he immediately ordered a Spec B for road test, after driving one, but was given one of the above by Subaru.
I have a Silver Spec B manual, i am second owner, bought it off an Audi dealer (who had taken it in px for a new S3) with 20k miles and FSSH.
First owner confirmed.
Now done 30k, and no problems at all (like my 3 previous Imprezas)
Offset the petrol cost by remebering it is 5 Star euro Ncap! (and lighter than the car it replaced) 40 per cent high tensile steel, the highest ever at the time.
A446 dual carriageway, BMW 1 Series doing 55-60 in outside lane beside Mondeo, Toyota coupe behind the BMW. on the run to Coleshill police station the Mondeo disappears into the distance having overtaken on the inside, I gain on the coupe staying in the left lane.
At the police station roundabout I stay in the left lane and end up beside the BMW on the exit, unfortunately I am occupying the piece of road (outside half of the inside lane) which he wants to occupy in cutting the corner on the exit to the roundabout so I brake and am now just behind him.
I pull out behind him expecting him to move in as the inside lane was clear (too much to expect of a BMW driver?) and he stays put in the outside lane. A couple of hundred yards later after application of right indicator (polite request) and subsequent main beam (impolite request) he pulled in. He pulled out immediately after I passed him despite the inside lane being clear (apart from me pulling away from him!).
I feel I must apologise for disturbing his serene progress!
He was a bit like the man in the 5 Series on the M6 last week, Lymm interchange northbound so four lanes, outside 2 lanes nose to tail at 30ish with me in the third lane out. He enters and indicating right immediately moves straight across the two inside lanes and is surprised (I saw the expression on his face) presumably because I don't brake firmly, risking someone rear ending me, to let him into the third lane - He came within a couple of inches!
Again I feel I must apologise for denying him passage to his rightful place in the outside lane.

My email address is correct but I've just sent a test message to it and it hasn't arrived. Odd. I've updated my profile with alternative, functional email so if you wish to drop me a line feel free. I thought my remark was obviously TIC given it's no secret what I drive :)
