A driver has admitted reaching speeds of up to 130mph on a 60mph-limit rural road in south west Scotland.
Bernard Doherty, 21, from Stockport, Greater Manchester also drove at 90mph through Ecclefechan village in April.
He admitted driving dangerously on the B7076 road with a seven-year-old girl unrestrained in the back seat.
Doherty also pleaded guilty at Dumfries Sheriff Court to driving while disqualified and without insurance. The case was continued until 5 December.
The court was told that he hit speeds of up to 90mph while driving through the small village with pedestrians and parked cars nearby.
He then reached 130mph on a section of the road where the limit was 60mph while people were on the grass verge walking their dogs.
Doherty admitted the charges and his case was continued for background reports.

I say again because I thought this had been done before but could not find anything on forum search - could be me though.
Anyway - I am on hols having a great time and we are staying in a place that has reserved parking spaces for each property on the complex.
I park beside a silver megane that is in a complete mess - I'm not knocking the owner they clearly see a car as a white goods and that is down to them. They are a couple I would say in their 50's and love walking cos that is what they go out and do all day everyday. My car is parked beside theirs and has not moved for 2 days. I go to the car and notice that there is a lovely door dent that is clearly caused by their rear door - it even has the silver paint on it as evidence. I know for certain they caused it.
What would you do - i.e. would you approach them and ask for recompense or would you just leave it and accept that it's a fact of motoring life. ? (For the record I was a coward and left it but after paying for it to be removed I got thinking - should I have challenged them ?) Read more
Many thanks for your repsonses - although I didn't challenge them I think most people are in agreement that I should have done something and checking with you has re-affirmed that. Just to close this one out I did get autohealer to fix it and he did a brilliant job.
I just bought some Vauxhall antifreeze, they used to do a 5 litre bottle which you had to dilute 50:50
But this new style 5l bottle has a blue GM label and the stuff inside looks very watery, as though it is already diluted. There are no intsructions on the bottle, unlike the old bottles which told you to dilute it.
Does anyone know if it is diluted or not?
The price was very similar to what it used to be just under £12 (retail)
So if it is diluted they are now selling half as much for the same price. I have been really shocked by the cost of antifreeze everywhere, it seems to be much more expensive now.
I bought the Vauxhall stuff because if it was not dilute (like it used to be) then the price would be pretty good. If it is already dilute, I would have been better off going elsewhere. :o(

Thank you very much. Another dealer said the same. It just looks very watery to me.
Ok I'll use 50/50.
cheers.
With respect to those who are afflicted in this way. I have in front of me a car insurance brochure from Marks & Spencer. On the back page they say that they are also able to provide this document in Braille. I wonder why. Read more
Speaking from personal experience: 1 year seizure free (fit isn't used anymore) and normally 1, 2 or 3 year medically restricted licence. Then 10 years seizure free and a 'normal' ten year licence is given.
We were banned in work from using the term 'brainstorm': apparently such a term may be offensive to people (like me) who have epilepsy (and it isn't) since it can be linked to describing (however crudely) the atypical electrical activity that causes seizures. One must use the term 'thoughtshower' now... :)

Poll, Would you buy a used common rail diesel, with reference to misfueling concerns?
Suggest a YES/NO at the top of any replies to make counting easier.
(Credit for this thread to Gordonbennet, who suggested it in my cooking oil thread.)
Oh, heres the link, which perhaps just shows the very tip of the iceberg.

NO - because
1. I read about too many expensive horror stories - on this site!
2. I do less than 5,000 miles a year [I'm a 'utility cyclist']
3. A 6 or more cylinder petrol is far more pleasurable to drive
4. An unstressed petrol engine should last just as long - if not longer
5. The cambelt is less likely to break [I never change them]
but I might if I were a self funding high mileage driver.......
Ive got a problem with my 1999 Ford Focus 1.8, if I turn into a fairly hard corner and apply my brakes I get a grinding noise coming from the back. If I apply the brakes normally there is no noise at all, ive had a look at the brake pads and they seem to be ok but im no expert. The discs don?t seem to have any damage to them either, any ideas what this could be? Read more
I had similar on a Focus, many moons ago. I found half a shakeproof washer inside a drum. I never could work out how it got there, or where the other half was. It had a main dealer service a few weeks previously, which included (I presume) removing the drums.
Ive just come to replace the wipers on my dads 406 estate.
I parked the wipers in the middle of the screen due to the recess of the wiper arms behind the bonnet and changed the passenger side no problem
The drivers side however wont lift off the screen far enought to change the wiper
It started raining at this point so i didnt get a proper look. Is there something obvious to lift the blade off the screen or does the arm need to be unbolted
cheers Read more
On the (mechanically similar?) Citroen C5 there is a maintenance position for the wipers.
You need to switch off the ignition and push the wiper stalk downwards. The wipers will then move to a position where the blades can be removed.
Now it's gone cold, I discover that the passenger heated seat, is not getting very warm. It has two heat settings and on maximum doesn't get nearly as hot as it has in the past. The drivers seat is heating fine.
Can anyone offer advice please? Read more
95+% of the population have not got heated seats and they survive.
Depending on the age of the car a visit to the scrappy might be worth considering - if heated seats are that important
Does anybody remember or is it still there? the 'greasy sausage' just off the M1 somewhere near junction 30?
I seem to recollect it had a big sausage on the roof of the mobile but static cafe
Once went there about 2 in the morning and it was so busy there was a long queue

Properly called the Stibbington Diner. Yes, it appears to be hugely popular. Since the new flyover was constructed almost next to it access from the northbound side of the A1 is much easier. Some HGV drivers avoid the overnight charge by parking along the Old North Road.
How do I know? I'm up at the GF's house most weekends, a mere stone's throw away.
Hi all,
I have a 03 Focus estate (TDCI Ghia); but need something of similar size that is better for motorway runs (for around the same money).
When I got the car it was a London based runabout and an excellent one at that. But my role for the car has changed, and I now am doing about 500 miles per weekend on the M1/A1. (Oh joy).
The little focus isn?t really in it?s element here; it?s a bit noisy, vibrates a bit too much, and the journey is a bit more tiring than I think it needs be.
I initially had the car given the once over; and it needed rear shocks, a wheel bearing and tyres: this helped a lot, but I still can?t help feeling I could do better.
Do I just want saloon style refinement from an estate; or is there an obviously better motorway cruiser for me?

Funnily enough I did use my earplugs last time! I ride a bike and always use them on non-town journeys; so I have loads of them kicking about.
The only downer here is I love music, and my motorway runs are a rare opportunity for me to listen to a couple of albums.
I will look into the Golf MK1V; -I think I'll be luck to get one for the sort of money the Focus is worth; but if it's a better option then I'll consider spending the extra.
I wonder whether letting a couple of PSI out of the rear tyres would help (obviously not less than 30, but they're at 32 by default).
The other option is to clip the dog to the back seat on a harness; then I can pull the boot cover over and put a blanket on the top.

I've often wondered how that's spelt...:-)
