hi guys any good tips for clearing a blocked windscreen washer? any tips appreciated Read more

Clanger

First the nozzle; disconnect the nozzle(s) from the tube(s) - don't lose the tube in the bodywork (clothes pegs work well for me), poke the nozzle out with a thin wire or pin from the jet end, then (important IMO) ream out the pipe end with a small drill twizzled twixt thumb and finger. Drink glass of water and spit it out through nozzle to check jet is totally clear.
Now the reservoir; with the tubes left open, run washer fluid into a clear bottle and look critically for foreign bodies (not immigrants, I mean grit, floaties, dead spiders etc.) If any trace, then stick a hosepipe to the bottom of the washer bottle and flush out thoroughly. Run the washers again without the nozzles and check as above. Repeat flushing if necessary. Reassemble and adjust the jets. Fill only with a reputable fluid or Clearalex and meths.

I got this from the Renault forum interesting info for people who were going to waste their money on EBay.

Renault key cards - IMPORTANT INFORMATION

----------------------------------------------------------------------
----------

As of 4 June 2006 You will NOT be able to buy a new keycard from Renault without supplying the VIN number and proof of ownership of the vehicle. The following vehicles are involved:

Megane II
Scenic II
Clio III
Modus
Laguna II
Vel Satis
Espace IV

The reason behind this is due to a major security issue that has been discovered outside the UK. The senario is this. You take your vehicle for some work to be carried out. The dodgy technician has a blank keycard. He programs that keycard to your vehicle. Then they either come to your home address and steal the vehicle or sell the key and the address to a friend who then steals it

So the procedure is that you or us a dealer has to provide customer specific details to Renault France who will authorise the card to be ordered. The card then arrives at the dealership with your VIN number already coded to it. We then apply to Renault for the programming code and have 1 hour to program the key before the code expires.

So if anyone is considering buying a New key from Ebay for example. You will NOT be able to get it programmed fullstop as the Clip will not allow a non Vin encoded key to be programmed as explained above. Note also that a new Vin encoded key Cannot be programmed to any other vehicle even it is has not been programmed to the origional one.

keycards cant be reprogrammed but they can be virginised reset to zero by replacing the rom ic within ,so that they can be taken to the dealer for reprogramming this reduces the cost dramaticaly as the dealer doesnt get to supply you with a new card they can only charge for programming your old card as a new one.

I spotted this one on the M3 a couple of days ago, unfortunately I forgot one letter of the reg. so I can't check what comes up on the V5. Surely a 1994 registered car would need a cat to pass the CAT test on the MOT, and they didn't make an Renault 5s with cats did they?

Thsi isn't keeping me awake at night, but it did arouse my curiosity ;-) Read more

I realised that that a month or two ago when I was looking for HJ's opinion on the Legacy. Just a case of HJ not having road tested any Subarus yet - I think!

When driving the car through the gears there is a slight knocking noise from the engine/gearbox.
The noise only occurs when your foot is off the accelerator and the clutch pedal is in.
No noise on tick over or when revving in neutral.
Your help appreciated.

I think my clutch is slipping as I go up steep hills. Is there an easy way to test for this, please?

I seem to remember something about trying to move off in a certain gear and seeing if the call stalls. Thanks. Read more

alternatively, park, keep the handbrake on tightly, select first and slowly bring up the clutch. At the bite point the revs should begin to dip and the engine begins to struggle - take it to extremes and it'll stall. If it doesn't the clutch is slipping.

Its a Renault Clio 1.4 of about 1998 vintage. Belt has snapped. Car is worth pink fluffy dice all, maybe £800 . Whats the likely damage and is it worth fixing ? Read more

Sorry to hear about the Clio cam belt.
I have an even older '95 1200 cc Clio that snapped its belt a few years back. I run this car on a shoestring, and luckily I'm reasonably handy with cars, but it was an awful job just because it was a Clio!! It was much much harder than on a Ford .... Access to the belt and the head etc is terrible (eg couldnt get the inlet manifold off until the head was off the car, which meant lots of fuel and injection stuff was molested). But I spent a lot of time on it and about £150 on valves, head set, water pump, oil, coolant etc etc. The car's done well since for 3½ yrs and went much better afterwards with valves ground in, compression restored etc.

wondering why no-one is advertising cars for sale these days here - must be few months since I saw one. Am looking for a £2.5k reliable hatchback for colleague and always enjoyed viewing the occasional BR's ad on this site. Any reflection of the used market generally, perhaps?

I unfortunately own a MK3 Mondeo TDCI 130 (nice when it doesn't need a repair).

A few months ago I noticed a bit of smoke coming out of the radiator grille when standing in traffic, I mentioned it to the mechanic when it was serviced, he thought it was a diesel leak that was dripping onto the engine which was causing the smoke but as the leak was so small he could not actually locate it.

Knowing how much Ford charge to look I thought I'd leave it to see if it got worse. For about 6 months I've seen a bit of smoke at times but still cannot actually see anthing and the MPG has not dropped at all so I've not been too worried.

Tonight however it seems to have got worse, there is a fair bit of smoke coming out after hard driving (was late for work) that smells of Diesel. I called the RAC, the patrol bloke looked for a couple of mins, said he could see diesel over the front of the engine but could not see the actual leak. He suggested it was the fuel pump that was cracked which could cost around £1000 fitted.

Now my question is if the pump was cracked would it take months to get worse? Would I notice any difference when driving (I havn't, it drives fine and has plenty of power).

The £1000 bill has got me worried and I'm thinking of trying to p/x it quick.

PS It's done 120k miles, 100k or so of it on the motorway.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry to drag this back but just seen it.

A guy over on the MEG (Mondeo Forum) had the same problem and it was a fuel pipe to an injector that was leaking and the heat was causing smoke from the grille.
