I see that some of the prices advertised by drivethedeal are subject to some conditions.
E.g. Mazda2
"Please note we have included a £500 bonus on New Model Mazda 2s which is only available if you are a current Mazda owner. If you are not a current Mazda owner then please add £500 to the discounted price. "
Peugeot 207
"There are some terms and conditions which apply to the deals we are quoting online. Prior to ordering a car, please telephone us to discuss them. Tel 020 8446 0800."
Is this normal? Read more
I found deal drivers cheaper and offering better service, might be worth checking out.
Was very disapointed with DTD.
Went out to my car this morning to find the driver's side door mirror had been smashed I assume by a passing car. Can anybody give me an idea of work involved to replace or are there any links that could be posted with instructions? I am not good at that type of thing, but willing to have a go, and can probably get the help of a friend who would know a lot more than me! It is an electric heated mirror on an 02 plate. Read more
Cool. no worries.
Hi
I've got a noisy diesel pump on the above vehicle & have obtained a replacement from a scrap yard. I however note that the connections are different despite them both being a Lucas Cav 70 pump. The one fitted to my vehicle has a two pin blue multi plug connection and a loom coming from a module fitted underneath the pump which them connects to the cars loom.
The replacement pump I have does not have a module fitted but simply has a black two pin multiplug in the same place as the blue plug on the original pump.
I presume the difference may be due to the keypad immobilisor fitted to my vehicle whereas the vehicle the replacement was removed from did not.
Does anyone know whether these parts are interchangeable?
Many thanks for your assistance.
Kind regards
Steve.

That pump may be the same shape as the old one; but so is one off a Mondeo. There's no way of knowing whether it will even fit and, if it does, whether it will wreck the engine.
On your pump is a metal plate with the pump typecode and exact model number. You need to find a perfect match or you're in minefield territory.
Noisy pumps are rare; are you sure that is the problem?
Hi,
My mother is in the market for a car and has no idea what to buy. I reckon I could get some good advice by opening the criteria to you guys.
Background ? She is early 60?s and just passed her test, so confidence is quite low. Mostly the car will be driven for short journeys around town, to and from shops, etc.
The car MUST be an automatic and due to the fact of her self-confessed limited confidence, the car must be small and very easy to drive.
She will probably keep the car for at least 10 years so depreciation isn?t really an issue, purchase price( £6-7k) and reliability are the key.
So, automatic, small, easy to drive, reliable, what would you go for?

Thanks for all your help guys.
She has now decided that a Micra is the car for her. Quite a few 1 year old 1.4 SVE's around at the moment. (I think they were ex-rental cars) with about 8000 miles on them for mid £6k.
Thanks again.

Having looked at purchasing a second car ,I was very clearly told by Esure that they would not insure 2 cars for one individual.
Since my current insurance is due for renewal shortly,I was trying to find out a good alternative for insuring 2 cars..
Any ideas welcome

I have two cars, one commuter and one for the w/e with the family, both insured with Direct Line. I'm the only one in the house with a full licence.
Some 20 or 30 years ago I saw a survey which compared the cost of motoring for cars of different ages. I think it was by the AA, but it may have been RAC or Which? magazine. The survey showed that the cheapest cars to run were 4 to 6 years old. Newer cars cost more in depreciation. Older ones started to cost more to maintain. The survey assumed that you were paying a garage to maintain the vehicle, and keeping it in full working order.
Does anbody know if similar research has been done more recently? On average is a 4 to 6 year old still the cheapest car to run? Read more
A hefty tax on new cars?
The alternative is no VED on cars say over 15 years old.
That will do nicely.:-)))

Bought a brand new car - 1st new car for 6.5 years.
Phone E-sure and they said the premium would now be £182 to cover the new X-trail. Having done a quote on their website last week it quoted £162.
When I queried this the young man said there was a £20 Admin Fee for changes! This is my first change of car in 6.5 years with them!
Green Flag Breakdown Cover charged Zero when I gave them the same changes.

Everything is becoming an add on these days. The UK has (for much of its commercial trade) become a 'dumping' market, so other costs need to be picked up elsewhere to make it worth people doing business here. The airlines blaze a trail with this.
Off topic a bit though I know but relevant to extra charges........checked in a xxxxxxx flight recently behind a big bird with a case, probably 110+kgs of her and 20kgs for the bag. No extra charge necessary. Person (petite) in front of her had just checked in 2 bags, say 60kgs for her and 25kgs for the bags, but been charged £15 or so extra for the second bag!!!! What a con!!!!
No, I'm not weightist!!!!!
Just off for a large doughnut.
This is probably a question for DaveN or elekie&a/c doctor
The car is at it again!!
The air con (climate control) on my 2001 Vectra was not cooling particularly well so a friend regassed and tested for leaks. All has been OK but recently it doesn't seem to be cooling as it should. Then needed the air con last night to demist the interior but it seemed to be struggling to do that.
When the air con is selected there is a long sucking sound from under the dash before anything starts to happen. The air con then seems to continue with little sucks from time to time.
I have also noticed that if the engine is turned off with the air con running there is a sound similar to a jet engine running down. I have checked the electronics with a diagnotics reader (but not with the air con running) and this did not show faults
I suspect that I have a slow leak and will get someone local to have a look, but any ideas of cause and cost would be appreciated.

Systems are vacuumed out to remove air and moisture. It is possible to do a leak test as well by watching for the vacuum to decay. If air is left in the system then it will tend to increase the high pressure side of the system. Any moisture left can cause an ice blockage at the expansion valve which will stop the refrigerant circulating until it has melted.
I'm not sure about car air-con but in a domestic system the moisture can react with the oil to form an acid. In a domestic system then the acid can remove the varnish from the motor windings. A car compressor, of course, doesn't have an electic motor.

Take the car for a drive, park up and raise the revs to 1500rpm or so - observe the cooling fan and gauge - it should kick in within 3 mins after a run with the engine up to full working temperature.
