Hi there i had an oil change done at a well known hi street garage, but ever since it has been leaking oil from the sump! i have taken it back an they tightened it but it is still leaking.
How can a simple job like this go wrong? or am i missing something?

Our Renault Modus 1.5dci is now due for it's 24k service which includes draining and fitting of new fuel filter. Been quoted £264 at 3 dealers.
Had a leaflet in the post a while ago offering 5% discount for booking online with local Renault dealer.
Used the online service to book car in and recieved an e-mail confirming price for service would be £284.54.
A swift e-mail back to service dept pointing out the previous price quoted over the phone and the lack of 5% discount for booking online has acheived an instant reduction in the price quoted from £284.54 to £250 all in.
Over £34 saved in less than 2 minutes. I wonder how much more I could save if I really pushed them hard?
I have to say it does nothing for my confidence in main dealers and their honesty, integrity and attention to the customer.
I suspect I am not alone in these thoughts....... Read more
When I had my Scenic, I played 2 Renault dealers off against each other for the servicing and saved a substantial amount.
Definitely worth it and makes a mockery of "fixed price servicing"

In the pictures of the Ford in the classified section, I see a yellow and black 1/2 disc steering lock on the rear o/s passenger floor. Not sure I'm allowed to name it, though.
Has anyone got one of these and the knowledge to say whether or not it's any good? Read more
FT...how did you solve your 1350mm problem?
The window had behaved perfectly until yesterday. Was sticky in both directions, and some slight mechanical graunching could be heard. Managed to raise it to within 2" of top. This morning had another go at it, and it would only lower. Now fully open.
Clues, suggestions? My local breaker normally has a 405 in stock.... Read more
Well, I'm no expert, but I have the same problem with my 405 and when I stripped the door lining off it turned out to be a snapped cable. The window sits on a carrier which the cable lifts up - if it's snapped the window will tend to sink as yours has. If the window motor is still working (can you hear it?), then it's just a question of replacing the cable etc.
From another post, thought I'd repost here as this is beginning to hack me off....
I'm not at all happy with the noisy brake pads put on by garage at the last service (4000 miles ago) -- they claim it's down to the materials on "modern" pads, but how come other cars don't suffer the same way?
Two other mechanics have found nothing wrong with the brakes, but I'm not satisfied. I'll be buying new pads and discs and replacing myself when I can be bothered. The car stops rightly enough, but the noise gets on my wick and is deeply embarrassing when I have others in the car. The sound is a mixture of a rubbery rubbing noise, metal-on-metal type scraping (both when coming to a stop, only present <5mph) and general squealing.
Is this anything to worry about, or is it just in the category of "irritant"? Read more
I had a similar problem on a Volvo. The worn pads were changed by a garage at service time. They didn?t fit the OE (Girling) pads but a decent quality alternative. The brakes there after squealed badly. The problem was that the new pads had a slightly different ?footprint? to the old pads and edges were rubbing on the ridges created by the old pads on the disc. The correct OE pads would have sat in the exact profile left by the old pads and would probably have been OK. New discs and pads were the eventual cure.
Any past or current owners experience a "WHISTLING" sound from behind the dash which varies in frequency.Loudest with high electrical load i.e. headlights, rear de-fogger,
heater etc.Sound varies with alternator speed.

Has anybody used/reviews on nexen tyres. Thinking of buying some for a Nissan Micra.
The car does a lot of motorway miles. Are the tyres any good?

There seems a lot of bashing of certain makes of car and I wondered if roomers experience of their car corresponded with the knocking. Citroen for one get fearful criticism but other back roomers seem perfectly happy with theirs and you see quite a few used as taxis which must be a hard life. Read more

I've only had three displeasing cars in 34 years and they were all sold within 7-8 months of purchase.
Other than those, the shortest time I owned any other car was my previous Mk3 Mondeo V6, which I loved but had to sell due to the rising running costs. My present TDCi, I am very pleased with, it costs half as much to run and I intend keeping it for quite a while (if it behaves itself).

Hi all i have mondeo tdci auto 53reg. It was parked up for around a year and when i started and drove it, it seems to lose power, over rev and doesnt want to change gear. The glow plug light (amber) is flashing constantly but the car starts first time. Its also got quite noisy. I got it diagnosed and was told it was a cylinder 2 fault, i never got the fault code off the chap. I sent it back to him and again never got the code, i was told it was a problem with the injectors. Could this be true, if so how much to fix this and i was also told it was a dealer only job.please help!!! Read more
If it was parked for a year did the battery go flat? If so ask a garage to try recoding injectors first as they loose there coding & run rough. Also if the fault light is on it may well be in limp mode which will reduce power & cut the rev's back. You will need a dealer or a diesel specialist or someone with diagnostic kit that can recode diesel injectors & has experience in doing them as they have to be done at certain tempretures so it isn't a while you wait job.

Hi - had the fuel tank filler neck flexi hose replaced recently ( leaking fuel was the tell tale sign of it's demise ! ) but have experienced very poor fuel economy since then. I realise that it could be coincidental, but do you know of any problems with this replacement part, e.g. is there a filter or such like attached to it which could have been missed by the mechanic !?
I realise it is a long shot but thought the replacement hose just might be related......
Thanks.

Unless it's actually leaking; to have used more fuel would have involved the engine running rich.
Had it done so; the ECU should have flagged a long-term fuel trim code - unless the coolant temp sensor has failed.
This is a common problem with these engines (which are Renault). We have a few Volvo 440s and they all have the same problem. I am told by my local garage (who specialise in Volvos) that in these Renault engines it is simply a nut that is welded into the sump and is not as well designed as Volvo engines. The only way that my garage solves it is to put some of the plumber's PVC white tape around the plug and then seal it with silicone. Once my garage did that on my own car, it completely stopped leaking (and it had been done like that previous to the oil change by somebody else too).
