I spotted this one on the M3 a couple of days ago, unfortunately I forgot one letter of the reg. so I can't check what comes up on the V5. Surely a 1994 registered car would need a cat to pass the CAT test on the MOT, and they didn't make an Renault 5s with cats did they?

Thsi isn't keeping me awake at night, but it did arouse my curiosity ;-)

I don't know whether it is relevant to this particular car, but it was not an absolute cut-off in 1992 for catalysts. There were exemptions, eg for end of production runs of older models that were being phased out and so not worth altering to meet the new legislation.

Also some borderline models are being retrospectively exempted.

Pedantry alert!

If it really was a 1994 car, it should have had an L or M plate; N wasn't issued until August 1995.

All clear. You can come out now.

The diesel versions were built right up to 96.

We had a R5 bought new in early 1996. It had single point injection and had a Cat.
We sold it on some years later but it was utterly reliable although very basic.

The 1.2 R5 Campus lasted well into the Clio I's reign IIRC.

It did, but it was 1.4. Went quite well.

Ok cheers folks, looks like they did fit some late R5s with cats then, or it was a diesel. I'm pretty sure this is the only one I've seen on anything newer than a 'J' plate, so presumably not many lingered on post CAT test.

I can t get the jist of this post

Are you questioning the car gwing on an N plane and is a 94 model

or

is it the cat that you are suprised about

Well my old late 91J Audi had a cat but my parents Astra merit on an L reg 93 had no cat

on the other point several years back my local car place had a nova on an S plate. Now thinking nova ended on a K or L plate I typed the plate on to DVLA car checker and guess wot. Yes it was an S reg and had a registered date of sometime decemner 1991. Still dont think how to this day how that happened

The old R5 linguered on badged as a 'Campus', made in Slovenia I think. Not bad little things but an older Clio for the same money made more sense.

The gist was my suprise at seeing a Renault 5 on anything newer than a 'J' plate, and how it got through an MOT. I was blissfully unaware of the existance of Renault 5s with cats.
