Does the scratch remover that is advertised work on light scratches that all cars seem to acquire?

I have used the regular 'T Cut' product followed by an application of polish on the same vehicle for the past 9 years with no adverse effect upon the paint.

Steam, high-pressure water, or Cillit Bang?

Some folks don't recommend pressure washers.

Surely steam could have the same effect, that is, getting moisture to where it shouldn't be.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Best to leave well alone but if you absolutely, absolutely must then brush off the loose stuff before using gunk (or similar) applied to small areas with a 2" paintbrush and then washed off with one of those plant spray bottles.

Use plenty of rags and newspaper around each application to catch the muck and water and make sure that none of it gets on electrical components or connectors. Dry everything with clean rags before moving on to the next area.

Steam cleaning and high pressure washers might be OK for industrial/agricultural diesels but are a sure fire recipe for electrical problems on consumer vehicles.

I have a 2007 clio renaultsport 197 which keeps getting the ABS fault light appearing. This usually happens, just after startup after approx 1 minute's driving, if the car is turned off and restarted it goes away. Recently though it did it midway through a journey.

Is this a common occurance with other clio's particularly my model and if so is it just a faulty sensor. I would like some info before I take it to a garage, so I have some idea of what is could be.

As the car is undoubtedly within warranty I think I'd just take it back to the Main Dealer and let them sort it. Muck about with it and you risk voiding your warranty.
The Main Dealer will know if it is a common fault.

Of slightly more concern would be why it has melted?

Do people post these threads in order to get others to rise or do they truly have such small minds that they think like this?

You should have seen the results when the first prototypes of the 94-02 Range Rover were crash-tested at Mira - much re-design and further testing was necessary before it went into production - I believe the strengthening poles had to go across the dashboard.

Just found out that you actually commit an offense if you fail to carry with you your documents while driving. OK so you are given a 7 day producer but nevertheless you have committed an offense. Wonder what other motoring laws are around that we don't really know about. Can I still urinate against the side of my cartwheel? Read more

Hi all,

A little advice needed please. My wife's Matiz failed it's MOT on a split CV gaiter. I trust the MOT garage but they were too busy to fit me in so suggested I take it to a guy who works opposite. He called yesterday to say he'd replaced the gaiter but that the locking wheel hub nut had broken in the process, and he couldn't get a replacement from Daewoo until Tuesday. Since my wife had needed the car over the weekend, he said that if I was desperate I could take the car in the meantime with the nut tightened but not locked.

So just wanted to check with someone more in the know than myself - does this sound normal and reasonable for the work that was required? Also can anyone give me a guide as to the usual labour time and parts cost for a CV gaiter replacement?

Many thanks in advance.

Bought a Mazda 6 about 2.5 weeks ago. Did regular checks the other day and noticed oil overfill. I'd say it is quite significant. It goes above max to nearly the same distance as from min to max marks on the dipstick (so I think it is about 0.7 litres). This however wasn't checked on a completely level ground, so in reality it may be a little bit less.

I phoned the dealer that sold me the car and told them about the probelm and they are going to rectify it tomorrow.

Now, the thing is, it was serviced by them about 1.5 months ago, so I think this is when the overfill occurred. The car has done some mileage since (in the order of 700 miles, about 500 of which are mine). There are no leaks or anything unusual so far. It drives well. Fuel consumption on the long run was as expected.

I wonder, if the overfill had caused a problem, would it be noticeable by now? Should I request the dealership to check the exhaust gas is up to MOT standards, in case damage to the cat has been done?

Thanks,

Kostic

Your oil sump consists of the oil level, an air gap, sump baffle and a spinning crankshaft above it.

If the oil level is too high the crankshaft will whip the oil into a foam, which has poor film strength. The result can be lubrication failure at bearings.

With the car level it may seem ok. The moment the car ascends/descends a hill the driver reports "engine lugged" or "note changed".

Example of the latter was a main dealer emptying 5L bottle into 3.7L sump+filter. They normally put a 4L bottle in creating a 300ml overfill (less a bit). That particular engine preferred a 0.3L overfill.
