88 polo with a pierburg 2e3
it fires straight away then stalls, its reluctant to be coaxed into idleing with a gentle rev(bogs and dies)....on colder mornings its taking about 3 goes until i can coax it into a idle...after 10-15 seconds running it gets into a fast idle and behaves normaly
would anyone agree its the pull down unit? carb has been cleaned with a new filter
i know theres lots of pierburg threads but i cant find a answer Read more
Needing a replacement for the old escort estate.
I've been looking at a Citroen Dispatch van, 2006 plate 2.0HDI with 22k miles.
Any tips or things to watch out for?
I tend to keep my cars until they're ready for scrap, do all my own maintenance etc and need a van that isn't too big and can carry 2 off road motorbikes.
Basically - is the Dispatch any good? Read more
Good luck with the van i prefer motors not too complicated and i think thats what youve bought.
Should imagine it'll still be under warranty for a while NOT that you'll need it.

Help!!!
I own a 1998 106 1.1 that wont start!!! I recently changed the exhaust system and when i tried to start the car....nothing. I checked the spark plug but no, there was no spark!
I assumed that the coil was history, so i replaced it but still nothing!
Anyone have any ideas? cause i've run out.
I'm sure someone else has had this problem because it sounds vaguely familiar Read more

What about the Galaxy auto? Is that a VW or VW sourced gearbox?
Yes I have a feeling it is, although all recent Fords will be fine as Ford gave up on autobox-building a few years ago. The Mondeo the OP wants would be one of the last Fords with Ford autoboxes.
Wouldn't that be cool?

we could have it on Nov 5th and burn all the bendy buses in one big bonfire at the same time?
OK, I've been a little busy and haven't visited for a while, Work has been manic for the last 4 months.
But life goes on, the family is on the increase and my Bora is getting a bit long in the tooth. I've decided that the MPV thing is great (Love the Touran), but I'm looking for something a bit bigger.
I've had a look around, and in terms of size/value/practicality, the C8 seems like a good deal. The HDi 120 (non-FAP) seems like the best engine for price, and I've read HJ's review, but it was quite a long time ago.
Has anyone had experience of the C8, and if so, what are the upsides (and the downsides)
Thanks
Charles

Alot depends on how you wish to use the seating. In our case we frequently travel as 6 plus luggage which means removing a rear seat, in the C8 and Galaxy and Espace this is a reall ball ache, not least cos the seats are really heavy, and then clutter up the hallway (we don't have a garage). So we wanted a car with fold flat seats in back row.
Zafira and Grand Scenic too small for us, the kids (4) are growing up and the elder ones are as full size adults.
Many of these factors may or may not be relevant to you so one mans apple pie is someone elses bacon butty!
Eventually we chose a Mitsubishi Grandis, and nearly a year on are still thrilled with it.
See my reasoning in detail - including comments on many cars we considered along the way.

I understand US auto philosphy was:
If it's small , make it slipshod. SO buyers buy our bigger cars.
If it's bigger, most of our owners are idiots. So live rear axles and simple does it.
If it's big and expensive, it does not need to go round corners. (Ever heard a US car cornering on US rubber?)
What's fuel economy? It's for wimps.
A pick up is a symbol of national engineering achievement.
And finally: if you want a car with doors that shut properly, a reasonable interior and an exterior with any resemblance to tasteful styling, buy an import.
Apart from that, US cars are the epitome of carp.

HELP
My sister is about to start a new job and she has been told to eirher private lease as an option or given to accept a company car
Does anone know the best 5 things to look for in either deal?
She does 15k miles per year and can deposit £2k as a down payment
I had a quick look at the LEX leasing site and mileage seems to be the requisite that affects lease costs
What are the downsides of this option?
(typical isnt it when your little sis asks big brother the only question he cant answer)

Quite often, companies deal with just one provider, and they rarely get the best deal.
I opted out of the company car scheme, took the money, and leased a CLK for the same kind of money which the other guys were getting Peugeot 307's and suchlike.
Subsequently got rid of the Merc, got a 3 year old Laguna with leather and all the mallarkey, and it's fine. The Renault will pay for itself if it manages to hold itself together for 12 months!
Yeah, I know!
New Citroen Nemo van details available on www.citroen.com. They insist that it is an addition to the range rather than a direct replacement, but I suspect the Berlingo will soon fade away. It looks good to me! Read more
The Peugeot is coming to the UK as the Bipper May 2008.
Bipper? Blimey, can't see that name going down too well in 'white van man land'.
Sounds more like a public school nickname. What-ho!
Having seen the Roof box and economy thread it started me thinking what are the relative merits of a roof box verses a trailer ?
I can't imagine there's much in it cost wise between a tow bar and trailer vs various roof bars, attachments and the cost of something like a Thule box.
The roofbox is obviously limited by the (usually) 75kgs roof mounting weight of most cars and the trailer can be used for runs to the tip etc...
I would imagine the trailer would be better for fuel economy trailing in the wake of the car though obviously you are then limited by speed. Read more
Thanks for link Hugo, will investigate
