Do Nissan gearboxes have any codes on them anywhere which would tell us what cars we could fit it on? I bought a gearbox for Almera quite a while ago but it never fit on it so its lying in my garage but I would like to sell it on ebay or wherever but I don't know what engine sized Nissan Almera/Primera it'll fit on.

All,
Just had a call from my dealer who is carrying out an 18K service on my pick-up, which is only eight months old. Supposedly the Air Con needs recharged - obviously due to all the hard work it's done this summer, and also for Front Wheel Hub Adjustment. Apparently both are chargeable. Ok, I'm a realist, the A/C recharge might need done, as no system is perfectly sealed, however in less than a year and still well within warranty? As for the F Wheel hubs, surely if Mitsubishi know that it is going to be needed to be checked / adjusted - every other service as the person from the dealership describes, it should be included as part of the appropriate service, and the cost should be included in that service, wether it happens or not. This service is costing £300 already, and I can't help feel they are at it, as I had the hubs adjusted at 6K miles already.
Surely if it is a known problem the Manufacturer should be picking up the cost? Anyone else with the same experience? Read more
I would challenge what they are doing for £300 already , Air con shouldn't need attention already & if it does it must have a leak, did you notice the air con was poor?. Sounds like a scam for front hub adjustment already. I wonder what the three years free servicing is on the new L200 ! as to whether its worth the paper its written on. Have you tried ringing another Dealer to see what there response would be. I wouldn't pay for air con after 8 months or hub adjustment its too new!/

Quote from the above report is that one in 3 deaths on Scotland's roads this year have been under 25. What a waste of life.
But what can be done?
Limit the cc - but a 1000cc car can still kill easily?
Limit number of passengers (distraction), how would you actually enforce this?
Limit time of day that can be driven - would be unfair for people who work shifts
The one quoted in the above report, if memory serves me right, was a provisional licence holder who drove a friends car uninsured etc. So if willing to break the law that way, then possibly willing to break any other law.
But what can police / authorities / society do to prevent this waste of life? I know I have mentioned this before but is just getting worse.
Has it helped with motorbikes limiting cc to 125 for learners? Has that made a difference?

I am now on my second Tino, very under rated vehicle in my opinion. Has anyone encountered the same problem as me- changing gear from 1st to 2nd can be tricky. I did test drive another Tino 2004 before I bought the latest and noticed the same tricky change. Going from 3rd to 2nd 4th to 2nd no problem. Before i speak to the dealer any suggestions?
Thank you

Yes, good motors.
1-2 change can be a bit baulky in the Tino, Almera and old Primera which used the same box. Usually they are much better when hot. I think Nissan had a TSB suggesting a move from a 75W-90 to a 75W-85. That would be my suggestion, and use a GL-4 oil.
hi there,
I'm thinking of buying a VW Polo in order to replace my old 1995 Corsa (that has had its doors bent back so much, they're like tin foil :( ).
No overall reason for a Polo, other than the percieved VW reliability, I just want a car that goes forst time, every time, and doesnt need servicing too often. The Corsa has been no end of hastle. Also, I rather like the looks of the Polo. : ) I'd be looking at spending between £1000 to £1500 on the car, can't really afford more at the minute, but I do need a runaround.
Can I get peoples opinions of the Polo?
Is it reliable?
Will I be able to get one that isnt a complete shed for the money?
How is it on fuel consumption?
Can you suggest any alternatives I might want to look into? (I know the budget is low, but that cant be helped at the minute)
Many thanks if you can help me. : ) Read more
Nonsense. I've had two Jettas and my current Bora over the past 15 years and all have done high mileages (the first Jetta had 66,500m on the clock when I bought it); none of them have ever leaked even a drop of oil, never needed topping up and my Bora has done 62,500m so far on its original cambelt.
I know, I know, it's time to get it replaced, but the other half has so many hospital visits and appointments it's finding time to fit it in...:-(
The exhaust, like the battery and cambelt now just under eight years old, began emitting nasty noises last week, so I nipped into the local independent quick fit tyre and exhaust centre.
Turned out the heatshield had worked slightly loose and was vibrating - it was quickly sorted FOC.

I started my 92 rover 216, Honda engine with no problem and then stalled it after about 3 -4 seconds. It would then not start. I tried cranking it several times. I then for some reason - don't ask me why pressed the inertia switch down - I though the juddering might have affected it - no luck. I then removed the spark plugs and found them wet and smelling of fuel. I then bought a new set of plugs and fitted them - no luck. I then cranked the engine with a plug earthed to the engine block but couldn't see a spark. I'm not sure how good an earth it was but I tried this several times.
I was wondering if the inertia switch cuts out the ignition or just the fuel pump on these models - ie can I assume that my pressing the inertia switch has nothing to do with the car not starting - after all if it is pressed then that is the position that it should be anyway. I did feel it click and when I subsequently press it I can feel no click.
Ruling out the inertia switch - would stalling the car have any effect on any ignition components like the igniter unit or the ecu.
When I turn on the ignition I can also hear a hissing sound that comes from the region of the fuel injection components. This lasts for a bout two seconds and then dies away.
Do you think all this unburnt fuel may have an effect on the catalyst if and when it finally starts?
I would be grateful for any hints

Ah yes I remember, I used to have a viva HC - now that really was easy to fix! - I miss those old ohv cars. Had a Humber Sceptre (Hunter), MGB, Herald. Then MK2 Jag, Daimler250V8, XJS, Silvia, then Concerto and two 216 Rovers. I like these Rovers - cheap and reliable - wouldn't like to be in a crash in one though.
Victor was the name of my old ginger cat - poor thing - same colour as the viva.
My driver's side door mirror is cracked quite badly. All the glass is still in the mirror housing and you can use the mirror OK but is this likely to be an MOT failure? If so, I'll get it repaired when the car's in for a service in the next couple of weeks.
Thanks

Well, I didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition!
While I take the point that I could have saved a £5 and stuck a bit of replacement glass on there myself, until very recently I was perfectly happy with the view I was getting via the mirror in question. It was only the recent deterioration in weather which had led to it being difficult to use.
I would have thought that the fact that I knew my brake pads were on the way out and had arranged for this to be done prior to the test indicated that I am not someone with the sort of cavalier attitude to vehicle safety and condition that's being suggested by some.

Question for anyone with a pre facelift Mondeo MkIII with climate control.
Other than the radio the car has three LCD displays, one each in the rev counter and speedo for trip / temp and odometer etc and one for the climate control.
On mine when I turn on the ignition the two in the rev counter / speedo illuminate though the climate one doesnt, it only illuminates when the lights are switched on with the rest of the dash lights.
However I have a feeling that it used to illuminate with the ignition and then dim when the lights are swithched on, perhaps I have a bulb out or perhaps it is working as it is supposed to and all is well?
Thanks.

Sorry to maybe bring bad news - albeit minor
Hey, 5 years and 121k and I am worrying about a blown dash bulb! Though I think eleckie doc has confirmed that it is as it should be.
Thanks.
Hi, I own a 2004 Astra 1.6 with 37k on the clock, and the brakes seem terrible, I've checked the discs and pads and they seem ok, it passed it's mot in May without comment, but I feel I really have to stand on the pedal. Anyone out there experienced similar probs. Ta Graham

go to a factor then ,you can even buy one disc there if you want to,i know vaux do a deal if you buy them together but ............

It's probably for a diesel then, because the 2 petrol gearboxes I've mentioned are identical apart from ratios. Unless it's for a SR20 engine as fitted in the sporty petrol ones. Look all over the casing of the gearbox, would've thought it'd be written somewhere.
