I have only had this car a few months; but I have had the same sort of car a few years ago. It is a 1996 e320 cabriolet with a 5 speed auto. The car is running very well hot and cold but the fuel consumption is always in the low 20s - it is about 5mpg worse than my previous model. Any ideas what to check - all the usual has been done - tyres, brakes, engine has just been serviced.

Steve Our 124ce 96 does around 25 thats mainly local running and using georgous's heavy right foot, it is better on a run but has the 4 speed box.
We are disposing of the 320 estate and that really drank the fuel and that had the 5 speed box, mind you the take off with the 5 speed is breathtaking to say the least, could it be you are maybe enjoying the power? Was your previous model the 4 speeder, could that be making a difference?

I,m an old lag and i have to watch meself from getting too carried away with these old 320's, have you checked in the mirror to see if anyone can keep up, it might just be the old lead right foot...at least thats my problem.

If you have tried everything else and need the ecu callibrating i can let you know who will be able to do it not just talk about it.

I have a Tyvek cover (From Halfords, manufactured by Dupont) for my celica convertible which isn't driven much, and noticed some water streaks on the bodywork and some dirt stains on the fabric hood recently.

On closer inspection the cover has "crazed" and in one place got a small hole on top. It appears to be happening as the material has formed creases as it gets moved when fitting, or by the wind, and the "metallic" outer layer has almost worn away on the creases and folds.

has anyone else any experience of these covers, and has seen the same effect and knows how to educe this ?

Does anyone know what the Tyvek actaully is, iut appears to be some soft papery material overlaid with some kind of metallicy looking thin foil or coating

They were not that cheap, although nowhere near a made-to-measure cover, I am wondering if it is better to invest in a more durable brand/material.

Any recommendations ??

Hi All,
Having exhausted all the avenues I can think of, I need some advise on what to do with regards 2 unlicensed cars located near my home, driven regularly on the road by one driver.

As well as no Road tax, both cars look like they are not even roadworthy (broken windscreen, lack of any visible exhaust, etc.), and I would fear for anyones safety being involved in some sort of road accident with either vehicle.

My first port of call was to notify the DVLA, using their website. After several weeks and the first unlicensed car still being used, I reported the matter to the local Police, not once, but on several occasions - they confirmed the status of the car Road Tax to me. They only responded in person once, and clearly having never watched any detective programmes on TV, proceeded to park themselves for all of 10 minutes directly outside the house of the driver of the car - needless to say, the driver didn't move the car at that time!
In the end, in frustration, I confronted the driver, and pointed out I would video the car the next time it was drive. Well, one result was that the first car wasn't used again - but then a second car appeared. However, a quick check on the DVLA website revealed an equally unlicensed vehicle.

So tonight I have seen this second vehicle come and go again - it is now, as I write, parked ON THE ROAD (not off it) - it has no Tax Disc displayed. When I called the Police earlier toady, there response was - 'it is not our priority' !
What else can I do to ensure both vehicles are not used on the road? Read more

Sorry Woodbines should have added I my sig (see below) an observation that it may be counter- productive. The message may not be getting to the troops on the ground, they are generally enthused by taking cars off naughty drivers.

Just had an interesting week driving around Italy in a Lancia Ypsilon - two door "luxury" supermini (www.lanciaypsilon.com/ypsilon/eng/home.html )

We went for the cheapest car we could hire and I must say it's impressive. Ours had climate control and was plenty big enough for me to drive, and notably wide enough. I can't get comfortable in a Panda as it's too narrow for my frame.

One of its best tricks was to be nimble and nippy in town, yet quiet and comfortable on the autostrada, happily pootling along at 140km/h in traffic. It didn't set the world alight with acceleration but with a bit of planning it was fine. Not sure which engine we had, but it was petrol and not an auto gearbox. I've been struggling trying to find out what the car costs - looks very expensive to import (£12k) but I'm thinking it's substantially cheaper in Italy.

It's a shame that the 70s reputation of Lancia damaged the brand to the point that they no longer sell them here. It's a nice car, and I should think, fairly cheap too.

As an aside, I had to find a new 500, saw only two on the roads, but a nose around the FIAT showroom in Monza allowed me to have a good look at the car (you wouldn't want to go on holiday with me - HEY! look....a FIAT showroom). It's very cute. Brilliant interior but worryingly sporting powered by Windows Mobile stickers. The colour co-ordinated dash (a la FIAT Coupe) is just great. I think AlteaEgo liked it too, it will take a big chunk of sales out of the MINI - and will eclipse the Twingo launch here.

The cinquecento has that amazing ability to make you think .... well, it's a bit tight for me to sit here in the driving seat but I could live with it...it is so cute...

Hi My 72 series 3 2 1/4 Petrol has a problem with the temp gauge. On start up it is cold as it should be after about 5 Mins running the gauge goes into the red and stays there. I've replaced the sender (£1.98!) still the same engine is not overheating. What should the resisitance be of the sender cold then hot?
I'm sure i could sort it given time, Just wonder if anybody has some quick pointers Ta MM

Just been to local tyre place to get a slow puncture repaired. My car was parked up for two days at the station and I got back very late and v tired and drove off and noticed it was a bit funny so pulled into a petrol station about two miles down the road and filled the tyre with air. It was one of the digital pumps which said I had something like 6lbs in.

Anyway. tyre guy takes the tyre off and shows me some scuffing inside the tyre wall caused by running on next to flat.

I am inclined to err on the side of caution on tyres, even though it looked very little damage to my layman's eye, so I had him put a new one on, but what if I had said no- please repair it and re-fit?

Is he obliged to refuse?

Gromit {P}

You'll find that any chain/franchise will instruct their fitters that, if they have any doubt about the condition of the tyre, they should refuse to repair it.

This isn't done just to sell you a new tyre. A fitter is no more able than you are to detect damage "by eye", only he is perhaps better informed than the average customer about the nature and risk posed by the damage done to the tyre. If he repaired the tyre, and then the repair failed, you can be sure 99 customers in every 100 would attempt to sue the tyre seller, so they'll err well on the side of caution.

Any wise independent would be equally cautious, as he's equally open to being sued were the worst to happen.

Hi, all

I have recently got the infamous glow plug problem in my 2002 mondeo TDCi. The car is running all right but not enough power, like no turbo.

RAC got the error code p2336, is something called injector 1 below threshold.

I have checked on Google and found out that this need recalibration of the injector. But the dealer won't do it before I pay £90 for them to read the code again.

I am wondering if I can buy any software and do it myself. It seems pretty easy as the code is written on the engine and I just need to enter it into ECU.

Many thanks in advance.

Many thanks for your reply.

That's more expensive than my car. It seems that I have to take it back to the dealer.
