Just been to local tyre place to get a slow puncture repaired. My car was parked up for two days at the station and I got back very late and v tired and drove off and noticed it was a bit funny so pulled into a petrol station about two miles down the road and filled the tyre with air. It was one of the digital pumps which said I had something like 6lbs in.
Anyway. tyre guy takes the tyre off and shows me some scuffing inside the tyre wall caused by running on next to flat.
I am inclined to err on the side of caution on tyres, even though it looked very little damage to my layman's eye, so I had him put a new one on, but what if I had said no- please repair it and re-fit?
Is he obliged to refuse?

Hi, all
I have recently got the infamous glow plug problem in my 2002 mondeo TDCi. The car is running all right but not enough power, like no turbo.
RAC got the error code p2336, is something called injector 1 below threshold.
I have checked on Google and found out that this need recalibration of the injector. But the dealer won't do it before I pay £90 for them to read the code again.
I am wondering if I can buy any software and do it myself. It seems pretty easy as the code is written on the engine and I just need to enter it into ECU.
Many thanks in advance.

Many thanks for your reply.
That's more expensive than my car. It seems that I have to take it back to the dealer.
Over at tinyurl.com/2988s7 they have some pics and an article about the next Honda Jazz. Look sharper than the original but keeping with the same theme. Just hope this version has more room that the last one did up front. Read more

best to also remember that 1.46 is not what you are likely to see at the moment with the interbank rate going between about 1.428 and 1.434 for the past week. If you buy today you are likely to get between ?1.42 and ?1.425 which might be getting on to about 3% different (more expensive) than their sterling quoted prices which are purely used for indicative purposes.
The handbrake on our Mazda 323 is very poor and will hardly hold the car on a hill. It's been in to a local independant a couple of times and although it has improved a little it's still not right. (Mechanic says it's a 'poor design'). I wondered if anyone else had experienced this and any suggestions as to how to improve them would be appreciated. (It has discs on the rear)

Many thanks for the replies. It's 'reassuring' that others have found the same problem. I'll strip them down and use some copper grease.

I have a renault clio with a williams engine.
On normal drive the car behaves ok. On full throttle the car keeps reving after release. 2/3 k. if i switch the engine off then back on. Its ok and returns to normal tick over. Also using a lot of petrol. single figures.
Have checked the cable and linkage. All seems ok. Checked the tps although all i have access to is a fluke meter.
From red to green. the meter showed over 2000 ohms. but replaced the tps with a sechand hand one but found the same values??
any suggestions where next to go?
or am i looking in the wrong direction?
i found the tps settings should be
red - yellow 5.78kohms
red - green 2.01kohms
yellow - green 4.27kohms

hi, i have a 1998 vectra sri 140. the problem is a water leak from the coolant system. there is a black valve looking thing, to the right of the engine bay as you look at it, near the top. in which three water hoses go into, with a small pipe coming out of the top of it. the water is shooting out from the sides of this valve near the top, from little square holes, but only when the engine is hot. this has never happened before..could something inside this valve? getting stuck??
your answers/ thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

I have not used my 1996 automatic Primera for seven months. I would like to start using it again. What do I need to check. Thoughts that occur to me are deterioration of petrol, oil and rubber components.
Any advice so that I can make a safe trip to the MOT test.

Hello, I was hoping someone can help with my dilemma, and I apologise in advance if this is exhaustive (pardon the pun):
I recently purchased an Astra 1.6 petrol. I have been having this problem for a while now, which many mechanics can't provide a solution for (oddly enough). When I set off sometimes (especially setting off quickly or setting off on a hill), the car really struggles to move forward, without making a really loud sound (like grunting sort of sound !), and even then it really struggles to go. Now, i've figured out a way to move it forward/make less noise, by getting to the biting point but staying at the biting point for a longer time and very slowly easing off the clutch !
One mechanic, thought it was a problem with the exhaust, in that the two joints that connected the exhaust to the car were loose, which in turn meant the exhaust was vibrating against the car (making the grunting noise). I replaced these and it is still making the same noise.
Not sure if this is a common fault or what to be honest but any views on this would be greatly appreciated!!

nah it normally makes the noise while the car is moving ! but thanks anyway !
the car has a strong petrol smell for a while after starting and parts of the injector rail look damp. At 67,000 miles should I be looking at new seals or new injectors? how long do the injectors last?
any contributions gratefully received. Read more
Very unlikely to be injectors or seals. The most common problem for petrol smells/leaks are the 2 flexi plastic pipes that are joined to the fuel rail by rubber hoses. They run up the drivers side engine bay ,next to the suspension turret, usually secured to the fuel rail by "click on -click off "metal clips.hth

You'll find that any chain/franchise will instruct their fitters that, if they have any doubt about the condition of the tyre, they should refuse to repair it.
This isn't done just to sell you a new tyre. A fitter is no more able than you are to detect damage "by eye", only he is perhaps better informed than the average customer about the nature and risk posed by the damage done to the tyre. If he repaired the tyre, and then the repair failed, you can be sure 99 customers in every 100 would attempt to sue the tyre seller, so they'll err well on the side of caution.
Any wise independent would be equally cautious, as he's equally open to being sued were the worst to happen.
